Kirk, my son recently graduated college, and like with our older son we're ion the process of helping him find his first not-a-mom-or-dad-hand-me-down car. He's tired of his mom's old '08 Highlander with 250,000 miles and loud knocking rear suspension! Anyway, he's ridden the 100 mile Best Buddies Challenge a few times since high school, and one of their major sponsors has been Volvo. He's always had a soft spot for the brand, and when he started looking (being a 6'-5" lacrosse stud) he decided the Volvo S90 would be a great fit for him with acres of legroom front and rear. We recently test drove a 2020 S90 T8 and were BLOWN AWAY at the locomotive like torque present from the super quick throttle. I was surprised to hear you talking about the lag in throttle input from a 4-year newer version of the same drivetrain. Makes me wonder if the S90 T8 has different transmission shift mapping vs the XC-60. In Sport mode the S90's throttle was immediate, and the torque instantly snaps your head back like on old V8 muscle car, which is intoxicating! I was also surprised that the XC-60 doesn't have a drive mode selector! I know you already know this, but for the readers, the S90 has a neat rotating thumbwheel that you push down on to activate the drive mode selector screen, to choose one of 3 settings.
Thank you so much for this review! Have been a 20+ year Volvo owner and have been looking as this as our next one. There doesn't seem to be much competition for the price, performance and styling.
All Volvo either Hybrid or purely electric cars are throttled the speed to 180Km/H which is wrong but it may happen that the battery does not last for faster acceleration but it is nice to drive regardless of whether one buys the cheapest model Core, Plus or Ultimate T6/T8 and that is about the equipment of the car itself that one's wallet allows and all countries have their own rules when it comes to such as road tax annually of SEK 360/year road toll tax at different times ranging from SEK 10 to SEK 50 depending on what time you are on the road, of course, car insurance as well as Annual Service which is important for the car but the car itself is a luxury to go and drive and thank you for your review.
My grandson is driving a 2011 C3 and it runs and runs and runs and runs and has 120,000 miles on it. Before that he had a C4 and it ran and ran and ran and ran.
how's the visibility out of this car? (sorry if you mentioned and i missed it). I've come to the conclusion that visibility (out) is the biggest thing for me. I really hate blind spots. My dream car would put me high of the ground, and have perfect visibility in all directions. Like an early Range Rover, expect all i'd see out of the windows is the inside of the mechanics workstation, but you get my drift.
Volvo builds a beautiful car. But, did just see that this model came in 6th in Consumer Reports 10 least reliable vehicles. Volvos used to run forever.
I had a brand new 2021 xc60 r-design in white beautiful suv extremely comfortable with the bucket seats front and back fun to drive had all the features BUT the driver side door (black pillar between the windows) kept scraping the back door window pillar bad ! happened 5 times within the first year multiple dealers told me it was the fl sun expanding it and proceeded to-use a hammer to put it back in place, my rotors also went out at 4k miles and had Apple car play problems near the end of the year sold it after the year, still my fav vehicle though
I've got my Count Chocula and Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! Does the XC60 Recharge have to be plugged in and can you use it like a Prius and only fill it up with gasoline? This would be great to use as an urban car where there is no way to plug it in but I don't know if this is possible.
i have a 2017 xc90 T8. your statement runs true for models prior to the new mild hybrid engines. These newer hybrids seem to be a completely different experience all together.
exactly the spec i would love to be able to afford... t8 xc60, bright dusk colour with dark trim, and wool seats.... stunning. except those wheel, i would be fine with the standard 21. or even 20 if possible(which is not). too bad if i would order one it would come from china.
I’ve had several German cars and they all are nice and they are expensive but the quality and the plastic they put them nowadays looks cheap. Volvo by longshot is more quality better materials.
@@billurban1581 it’s another feeling having paddles as also aesthetically is nice to look at them It’s not by accident that even ev cars like Mercedes have it
I wish Volvos were more reliable. Otherwise, for a good number of people, they just don’t exist. They look really nice though, just a shame they are plain planned obsolescence once the warranty expires.
Chinese rubbish, unbelievable! Had several Volvo's in the past, sold a youngtimer 760 gle two years ago. Had 200, 700, 900 series, 850glt, red one, with faboulous 5 cilinder. Ford bought Volvo, the decline started, Geely took over and Volvo's reliability is now among worst ..... Have you had a look at the bottom of the car Kirk?????? The xc60 is notorious for its underneath rust issues......
The person who made to calm about China. Is not too smart. It is China made, but it’s not made in China. I did have one made in China the last one and it was wonderful never fell apart never rattled grandpa perfectly. The reason stuff is junk from China is because it’s made for Americans Companies that wanna pay low dollar but charge high prices. I’ve had three and it’s only car I would buy. If you had a Volvo and it let you down then you didn’t take care of it.
I've never had issues with the 2 I've had. Any vehicle out there can have one offs. It's just a product of mass production. Then those owners are the ones that say something and therefore the only thing you hear.
My V60 T6 recharge MY22 keeps rolling with no problems at all. 40k km and 3 years of a beautiful machine. ❤
Kirk: “Should we give it a little bit of acceleration to …”
Wife: “No”
😅
I love volvos! My xc40 never had a problem with it!
Same - 92k miles, 2019 xc40 t5 - No problems so far
thank you for the detailed review and opinions.

warranty Kirk what do you think about the XC60 recharge after the warranty is over, would you keep if you own one or just lease it ??
Lease is a great option if you're worried. Date for three years then decide if long term is viable
@@KirkKreifels thanks good advice
I have a ‘22 XC60. On this one, the underhood insulation is missing 😊
The soft engine cover is for pedestrian safety/head protection.

Zero competition for price , comfort and performance…I stress performance. This car still puts a smile on my face and I’m on my second one.

You can use it that way but it is best when you can plug it in at home and charge it.
I want one..( current XC70 owner)

It looks so good. Everything is impressive besides the reliability. It's the only reason why I wont buy one.
I’m 40k in my second XC60 and had zero issues hence why I am on my second one

Looking at purchasing an xc60, but not sure about spending another $12K for the recharge. BTW...I sure miss Florida Roads. Best in the country.
I’d op for the bright trim..black trim/ wheels always look cheap.
I don’t believe Bright is available for 2024
Bright chrome is going out of fashion. It's an older luxury look. Black trim or a darker chrome looks way better.
I really wish it was more reliable. Then it would have been perfect for us.

I've had 2 and zero problems. Never owned a better vehicle. Had an XC40 when it first came out, now have an XC60.
It’s as reliable as a Geely
Reliable as Chinese plastic. EVs might be good but I won't be getting Volvo hybrid. They dropped ball on ICE and hybrid tech so long ago already

That's not necessarily true. A lot of people have very reliable Volvos. They're a mixed bag in terms of reliability.
It’s a Geely under the skin. I would be cautious about Chinese infotainment and navigation gear as they may be rigged with spyware
