- DAC performing perhaps his most famous song, You Never Even Called Me By My Name. This is an extremely rare performance from 1975. If anyone has any 1970's Coe footage, please share it.
We need to get all us old Coe fans together for a night of partying somewhere. I dont think we gonna get a chance for another show like the old days!

+Marvin Hunt II my co-worker had new country blasting on the radio so loud you can hear it all around the steel shop i work at all day, it was horrable. i didnt have anything to do i tried to block the sound out with my earmuffs, it wasnt good enough. i tried to drown the sound of it out by grinding some steel plate stuff with an angle grinder. but i could still hear it a little and by the time i was done doing that there really was nothing at all to do. just when i thought it couldnt get any worse, he was going to change the station, i was hoping he would change it to the rock and roll station. but he changed it to the new R and B station instead.
+bicycless211 Oddly enough while catfishing at night in Texas there was a bootleg radio station that would play mostly at night and they would play DAC whole album sides or Pink Floyd. LOL! Perfect fishing music IMHO.

1975 or '76 was when I saw him perform in a little bar in Beaumont TX and the bar was so small and he was so big he was a real presence that night. Good performance tho.

Worked for DAC from 1986-1988 still owes me 7 weeks pay. I left the night we came out of a show in Dallas TX, and found his Bus and Semi had been Repossessed.

Exactly the same thing I was thinking. Funny thing is he claims that he's only smoked weed once and that was with Willie. He also said he didn't start drinking occasionally until he was 58 yrs. old. Strange considering he was a member of the Outlaws Motorcycle club.

same here, i was baffled to find out he didn't drink or do drugs. i started listening to his music when i was 21 or so(1999) and thought these songs are from a man thats lived a crazy wild life. come to find out from seeing some of his interviews on RUclips and so on that he said he never got into that stuff. truly weird.
***** I was recently introduced to this singer and it certainly sounds as though he has seen a lot of the lower side of life, particularly when it is noted that he has spent a lot of time in prison ,, Oh well, I guess you can't tell a book by it's cover.

One if THE best country classics in an era of some of the best country music. This one will always be one on the top. My deceased ex absolutely had to sing along with this one! Good memories!
Watching this video on 2019! I remember heading from Arizona to California to go camping with the kids and playing this song. All of us singing along with it! Yep, my little kids knew every work to it! We still love ya David Allen Coe!!

You know, say what you want about Mr. Coe. He might be nuttier than a whole sack of squirrels, and was probably higher than a Georgia pine in this clip. But the man can *SANG*, and the man knows how to write a gorgeously worded song. (And yes, there is a huge difference between being able to SING and a person who can *SANG* )

I grew up in Texas and you did NOT hear David Allen at all on the regular radio. So we would catch bootleg radio FM...late at night when lucky enough to catch it. Back then...they were real selective about what went on the air in the bible belts. Love me some DAC albums...but he was not a real pleasant person. Too bad his demons kept him from more fans.
