The Fallout universe is an alternate timeline that diverged after WW2. The social upheavals of the 60s mostly didn't happen, but the Cold War kept on going. By 2075, the world looked a lot like the future imagined in 1950s America. And then it all went to Hell in a two-hour war in 2077. That was more than 200 years ago. Some have been living in underground Vaults; others have been trying to rebuild civilization. Many have just been trying to survive, while mobs of nomadic raiders appear to be trying to tear down what's left. A lot of the tone of the world comes from the contrast between naive faith in a clean, nuclear powered American future and the blasted, poisoned, ruined world left over. The strong streak of dark humor is there to hold the whole thing together, and I for one wouldn't have it any other way.
What a great trailer for one of the iconic gaming franchise. And yes, it has a lot of dark humor. The settings is so fascinating, mix of '50, west and a little SciFi in a post apocalyptic USA
