The novel was overshadowed by other great adventures such as Lord of the Rings, or The Time Machine. If only the Hodgson had made some more edits such as more challenges on the road for the protagonist to face, or more compelling narration that actually puts YOU in the story, or how about a scene where we 'wakes up' thinking it may have been a bizzare dream...or not. If it was written now, it would be incorporated into the silent hill theme, but it also serves as an excellent insight into old fashioned Sci Fi from the WW1 age
I'd like to add that there is a modern retelling, "The Night Land, A Story Retold" by James Stoddard that is very much worth a read for those who don't want to trudge through the original text.
I love how you read. Great voice. I´ll Night Land to the reading list.
Best fictional book ever. So incredible…. So hard to read
That pretty much sums it up.
Well said man. A solid, great book. I definitely second your recommendation.
Yours Capsule Book Recommendations are making my TBR even bigger, such interesting books!

Not sure why he went with the odd prose, given that he writes fairly contemporary in his pirate and detective books.
WW1, not WW2
Oh, my mistake! Thanks.
ok you convinced me - ordered
Sounds incredible. But would you say the abridged version is worth reading over the original?
I'd say so.
What's the name of the suit donned when one needs to traverse the Night Land?
Masterpiece of horror story!!!
Read it a while ago, good stuff.
Nicereading! What’s the music?
Thanks. I used the third movement from Vaughan Williams' Sinfonia Antarctica, and the second movement from Brahms' German Requiem.
