I think Shane's problem was that he adapted to the new world too quickly. He was acting cold, harsh and ruthless, and everyone was horrified by it. But seven seasons later, they're just like him.
I don't think Shane ever would have survived to see began, just think about it. Shane went over the edge from just seeing the people he loved all together and happy without him, what about when Judith was eventually born, he would of had to live every day seeing his wife and best friend raising his child and he would be all alone, I think at this point he would just go and do kinda what merle did, go on a suicide mission to kill the governor because at the end of the day he couldn't bring himself to kill Rick so he might as well make sure the people he love are safe

Same here. I've been too focused on Rick and his side of the story the first time around. Rewatching the first seasons from a new perspective made me feel for Shane. He definitely had his problems, but the way Rick/Lori/the group treated him didn't help at all and was unnecessarily harsh sometimes.
in my opinion it was not Shane nor Rick's fault it was Lorie. I know after she found out Rick was alive she was extremely excited but if u she had any feelings for Shane she should have handled it better. I think she should have talked to them about the baby. I think she knew who's it was deep down and didn't want it be true

Shane did not know that Rick was alive, if you do not remember Shane did not feel the pulse to Rick, it will be by the explosions or the fear of not knowing what was happening, technically Shane was telling the truth
