Thank you. I bought my first vintage Esterbrook this week and need to ink it and try it out. I enjoyed your writing samples of the various nibs. The advertisements are informative. And I very much appreciate you sharing your ink choices. I had heard so much conflicting info about inks in vintage pens. Many of the inks you use in your vintage Esterbrooks are my favorite inks that I use in my modern pens.
Just found your channel. I've had a Blue J with a 9550 nib that I found in my mother-in-laws stash. After seven years of just "keeping" it not knowing what to do with it I'm learning about Esterbrooks and getting more into fountain pens. Thank you for this wonderfully informative video.
I have the same green model. I also have an old Osmiroid which came with four swappable nibs! I learned some time ago that those nibs will work in an Esterbrook : Two different sized Italics, Music, Architect. However, the nib that came with the Esterbrook is a sweet writer.
Thanks for this excellent video. I was very interested in this material about Esterbrook nibs. I found some other videos about Esterbrook that I had trouble following, but this one was well-presented and clear. Again, thank you very much.
9556/2556 "Firm Fine". Can make carbon copies. I have a 2556 on a copper color "J". (Transitional?) Very smooth writer, every fine line. The 2556 nib lines up with the fill lever on this pen, so I'm using it. My 9556 nib is 180° off from lining up. It is also a great writer. I have Noodlers "bulletproof" black in this pen. I have a 9461 "Rigid Firm" (according to the nib box) on my green "J" (which may be a transitional pen as well. Both my Esterbrooks date from c.1947.) The 9461 is just as fine as the 2556/9556, and as smooth writing. I have Noodlers 54th Massachusetts in this and my Waterman's Dauntless. The ad showing the 9461 nib said it is a "Manifold Nib". (WTF is a "Manifold Nib?!?) I also have but have not tried: 2514-M 9314-M 2314-B 1550 I like a fine line, so I doubt I'll ever use the Medium or Broad nibs. I need to research what Esterbrook claimed what these nibs were intended for. Of my three lever fillers, I think the Esterbrook get carries and used the most. I think I like them a touch more than the Waterman's even tho the Waterman's has a semi-flex fine 14K gold nib.
What a wonderful overview of the world of Esterbrook pens and nibs. Do you know which model of Osmiroid that was that you demonstrated to show that it can accept Esterbrook nibs?
Great video that has just the information I was looking for. I just picked up an Esterbrook with a 2556 nib at an antique mall and it works perfectly. It looks exactly like the one you use in this video with the 2556 nib and I'd like to ask you some questions about it if you have the time.

I have a 9550 and 9048. I’m interested in the stub nibs so this was a great video for that. Thank you!

👍
Chris, this is a great video and very informative--thanks for putting it together!
Very good video, I now appreciate my Esterbrooks much more and understand them better. Thanks.
+John Nahmias I continue to be surprised by these well made writers. Their history interests me.
Very interesting. Thank you. I will be investigating Esterbrook
I really like the bookkeeping nib and also the Gregg nib. These are amazing pens; will there ever be an equivalent? Nope...
We agree.

Ok now I must get out my Esterbrook and see if she will write! Claudia
This is interesting. I did not know there are so many selections available. I guess I'll be on ebay for these.
