The issue stays the same with AI, if you tag them, you always realize they design bad aircraft, bad ships, bad tanks. Unless you force the AI to use only tank&plane models you design (with a mod, take off their ability to make 50 models of everything, to make 50 division template and then to focus greatly on logistic too to not have to rebuild a whole army equipment every month, then you always feel disappointed when you check what the enemy had)
This hasn’t ever changed they have always designed bad divisions since the very beginning it was just less noticeable when you only had the 20/40 CW divs

The game really doesn't have a supply mechanism for airsupport outside of being able to add more ground crews. Landlocked regions should demand transport planes to be in the area prior to allowing operations, or at the very least you should have to ask for military access from adjacent countries that border a shoreline. Supply access should be a new mechanic that increases war tension and degrades relations.
Another good question is that how do you move your planes for example from the US all the way to UK? Especially since it doesn't take away your convoys. So the planes just magically fly there even though they would never have the range. So it should take convoys to move planes large distances over seas and you should only be able to deploy planes in your core territory much like divisions.

If you want to fight good planes and tanks, use Road to 56
There is a fantastic mod from the better mechanics team that makes the AI create better tanks/aircraft/boats.
Before by blood alone and no step back at least the ai might of stood a chance with tanks and planes and boats
