    You forgot a few steps. You didn't lose the instructions, install the damper box before putting the fan in the attic. I also can't help but notice that you failed to step through the ceiling at any point in the process to allow for space to get the fan in with the damper box in place.

My mom used to have one of those really large fans in our kitchen blowing to the outside of the house. And it help keep the house cool in those Mississippi summers when she and those 7 sisters would be cooking those amazing home cook meal.

This is a big deal because you have to run ac 9-10 months a year and you can cut it down to only 3 months of heavy ac use. You will save a ton of money and pro long the life of your ac system. Your ac is your most expensive appliance to run and replace. They only last about 12.5 years on avg and you can have it last up 20-30 years if you use a whole house fan during the spring and fall.

      They work in all 50 states but depending on the region could have different use cases. For instance if you live in a climate zone like Texas, Florida or even phoenix arizona the whole house fan will work great in the spring in and fall but not the summer months. Most people run their ac system 10 months a year in those markets and with a whole house fan you can cut the usage down to 3-4 months. This will also help you save a ton of money and prolong the life of your ac system by doubling it.

    Aren't you just sucking air conditioned air out of your living area to cool off an attic space. Plus without proper ventilation, the attic space becomes pressurized. A lot easier to do with this passive ventilation to cool off the attic.

    • @qcmanufacturing
      @qcmanufacturing  2 месяца назад +1

      No, because you would never run the system when your house is cooled. You only run it when it cooler outside and than inside. When the air goes into the attic it’s going to push out all the hot air cooling the hottest part of the house. Your house stays hot because your walls and attic gets up to temperatures of 150 degrees which causes ac cycling. Ac cycling is bad because it takes 20 straight min of run time for your ac to hit its peak efficiency.

    You might get better results by getting the fan near a gable vent, but not right up against it, so that the fan's air can scavenge the air near it, thereby blowing more air out of the attic.
    This acts in a way similar to how to win a bar bet, by betting someone one can inflate a big trash bag like a balloon by just mouth blowing.
    The trick is the opponent will press his lips to the bag and suffer, while the other guy will blow from a few inches away, filling up the bag much faster, due to his breath scavenging lots of air around it.

      @@qcmanufacturing > It doesn't matter
      Yes, it absolutely does. While it's true that the fan will draw air up from the living area and blow it out of all the attic vents (plus through leaks in wall top plates and around conduit, etc., back into the living space), you absolutely can blow more air out of the attic by placing the fan near an appropriately large exit hole, with a gap to allow scavenging. I urge you to look up some literature about airflow and scavenging. When I have time, I'll see what I can find to add here.

      @@qcmanufacturing no sir.. The old fashion attic fan pulled air out of the house and pushed it into the attic. There was no "Tubing" like you use. The old attic fans sat in the jam of the ceiling. So the interior was on 1 side, and the attic was on the other. So no tubing was needed. And they were HUGE fans. When the fan was off, there were Slats that separated the attic from the interior. And when you turned on the Fan, the slats got pulled open. It was a simpler design than what you installed in this video. THe big fans are great for large houses, but smaller houses do not need such a large fan. The small size that you installed is probably more appropriately sized for an average house 2000 sf or less. My grandparents had a HUGE fan and their house was only like 1500 square feet.. And the interior was like a vortex, it pulled so much air.. but you know, the fans also pull in a lot of dirt from outside

      @@mrchad97z49 My house was built in the early 70s and it has an attic fan about 12" in diameter. I kicks on when the outdoor temps are above 100 degrees. (So that's like a million degrees in the attic). It draws air from soffit vents, and roof vents, and I leave the garage manhole open so it can use that hole too to reduce the static pressure. The attic fan is like a box fan, but the fan in this video is more of a tube axial fan that moves more air, and it actually needs ducting for it to work correctly. It's designed to pull/draw air faster than a box fan, which is designed to circulate air, and the fan/squirrel cage in an HVAC which is designed to push air. Tube axial fans are used in paint booths to filter large volumes of air. The one in the video moves about 750cfm so the flow inside your house isn't too windy. Whereas a paint boot tube axial will/can move 3500+cfm and it's enough to hold empty paint cans next to the filter, and pull the hat off your head at the same time.

    Yall gotta make it blow outside the attic. Blowing in the attic will create positive pressure and cause the insulation to get pushed into the house through small spaces between anything in the ceiling

      We have been doing this for hundreds of thousands of customers and this is not a problem. I’m not sure what your experienced been but I can assure that’s not the case with a proper installation.

      @V0lk we work with BPI certified energy auditors all over the country. I don’t think you realize that whole house fans are a prescriptive requirement in new homes in California and give huge HERS points to builders in all the other states. They would get this if they wasted energy.
