I think race is really important here, while russians are calling Ukrainians nazis, the symbolism of Ukrainians choosing a black foreign singer to represent their country is really important. It shows modern, progressive Ukraine, who want to be part or a normal multicultural world where everyone is accepted and loved!

The thing is though, this is not an entirely new movement. We had a biracial singer represent us in the past too. We had Gaitana who’s father was from Congo and mother was Ukrainian because she was the best singer of her year. I really don’t think race was a big factor. I wasn’t a fan of TVORCHI and was rooting for Fiinka because she sang in a Ukrainian dialect that has been mocked by Russians for years and I love folk music. But her live performance was not the best. These guys gave the best live performance so they won.

This is not about nuclear weapons threat, now agenda is Ukrainian people, like a one union of freedom, staying strong for their lives, and that’s where i think Ukrainian folk is most accurate in representation of spirit of our nation, not that these artists are bad choice, just think that more people know true Ukraine now, easier it will be later to build common connections and live together. Peace to everyone and God’s blessings.

Ukraine is inclusive and diverse - the same as the world's leading countries.
The quality of Ukrainian music and bands is TOP level - the same as the world's leading countries.
Ukraine doesn't overuse the position of a "war victim" - it shows that we are more interested in living a high quality creative, impactful life, no matter what - the same as the world's leading countries.
    Bravo Ukraine!

  • @annatiutiunnyk5148
    @annatiutiunnyk5148 Год назад +129

Hello! Thank you for your reaction! It is very heart-warming!
As stated before, there is a meaning in each line, which has connections to Russian invasion of Ukraine.
    1. “Sometimes you just gotta know; When to stick your middle finger up in the air”: this line is dedicated to the famous quote of a Ukrainian border guard when he addressed Russian soldiers on the Russian warship. Ukrainian border guards were asked to surrender upon the threads of murder. However, the infamous Russian warship ended up at the bottom of the Black Sea.
    2. “Don't be scared to say what you think; Cause no matter how bad, someone is listening": it refers to all of Ukrainians telling their painful stories and truth about the current war. Ukrainians were heard, even though not everyone believed us.
    3. “You just like to act a fool; Trynna get in my head like; When I turn on my headlights; I can see right through you; Trynna get a reaction; I just hit the action move; You know I can never lose; You like the attention too": I believe these words were put there to describe the relations with Russia. Russia tried to come up with ridiculous excuses to justify the invasion, "acting like a fool". "When I turn on my headlights, I can see right through you" aka Ukrainians truly see the intentions of Russia and how they neglect the very existence of Ukraine as an independent country and Ukrainians as a nation. "I just hit the action move; You know I can never lose" refers to all the Ukrainians united as one in its fight against Russia because if we don't win, there will be no Ukraine. "You like attention too": pretty self-explanatory about Russians trying to grab on to something to get attention from the public :)
    4. “Get out of my way; Cause I got a heart of steel": Ukrainians want Russians to simply leave them alone and stop getting involved in matters which are non of their business. As explained before, "Heart of Steel" goes out to all of the defenders of Azovstal' in Mariupol which was destroyed by the Russian forces. Steel is Stal’ in Ukrainian.
In the end, their performance with nuclear danger signs underlines the unreasonable threads of Russia to use nuclear weaponry on the territories of Ukraine. It's absolutely bizarre.
Overall, I want to say that this song has an incredibly powerful message. However, you must be aware of all the horrible things happening in Ukraine to understand what these words truly mean. I admire the song and I think it's a good balance between standing up for your country and sticking with the rules of the contest. Society is used to having chill songs without proper meaning. However, this one really has its own voice and must not be neglected. People just need to find those Easter eggs to understand that this song is a gem, too.
I do believe that this is a great song to represent the modern side of Ukraine, no matter how much I love the traditional Ukrainian tunes.
These guys are extremely creative and deserve the recognition.
Furthermore, can we just talk about their costumes and performance😭😭 The hearts with silvery blue and yellow colors to represent steel and our Ukrainian flag.
I agree that the song is extremely catchy and I have personally listened to it like 50 times, no kidding!
    Thanks!

they sing about the war, about the fact that despite the missiles of our neighbor - the russian federation, constant shelling of Ukrainian cities, we are strong, we have hearts of steel.
The song has a hint of the battles near Mariupol (Donetsk region 🇺🇦). The city was completely destroyed by the russian federation. Mariupol was once an industrial center for steel production. It was at the Azovstal steel plant that the last heavy battles for the city took place. The city was surrounded by all the forces of the russian federation, bombs from airplanes, shelling from the Sea of Azov, it was destroyed along with its inhabitants. But the russians could not defeat the defenders of Mariupol militarily.
song Heart of steel - text
    Sometimes gotta let it go
    Sometimes gotta look away
    Sometimes you just gotta know
When to stick your middle finger up in the air
    I cannot explain
    Tell you how I feel
    Life is just a game
And I'm playing for the win
Don't be scared to say just what you think
'Cause no matter how bad, someone's listening
    Don't care what you say
    Don't care how you feel
    Get out of my way
'Cause I got a heart of steel
    (Don't care what you say
    Or how you feel
Oh I got a heart of steel)
You just like to act a fool
Trynna get in my head like
When I turn on my headlights
I can see right through you
    Trynna get a reaction
I just hit the action move
You know I can never lose
    You like the attention too
This has never been about you
Don't be scared to say just what you think
'Cause no matter how bad, someone's listening
    Don't care what you say
    Don't care how you feel
    Get out of my way
'Cause I got a heart of steel
    (Don't care what you say
    Or how you feel
Oh I got a heart of steel
    Don't care what you say
    Or how you feel
Oh I got a heart of steel)
radiation symbolism was also present in the design of the scene.
Because the russian federation constantly threatens the whole world with atomic bombs.
In Ukraine, the russian federation seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (Prypyat).
Now the russian federation has seized the Zaporizhzhya NPP. This station is now disconnected from the power supply, the cooling of the reactors is running on generators. If there is an explosion at this station, it will be a disaster for Europe and the whole world.
despite all these threats, the entire civilized world is putting up a powerful resistance to evil. We all have hearts of steel, and we march boldly to victory.

You could say this version is still a first version, they will add or remove elements when they release the Eurovision edit. • @ВикторияБохно

as a Ukrainian, I will say that RACE WAS NOT A FACTOR in the selection of the group. TVORCHI's victory was connected with Ukrainians' desire to show the modern and European side of our culture this year.
In past years, a rap trio of dark-skinned girls (I don't remember the name) and a very feminine young man (Michael Soul) took part in the national selection, but they were not even among the top three.
Unlike Russia, here people can achieve success regardless of race. of course we also have racism in Ukraine, just here, it is dictated by lack of education, not ideology as in Russia.

    • @ВикторияБохно
      @ВикторияБохно Год назад +2

if anyone is interested in the issue of racism in Ukraine, I would like to point out that it is exclusively domestic in nature. at the level of the state and the media, any manifestations of discrimination based on race, orientation, etc. are prohibited. we have black politicians, athletes, singers, etc. racist statements in the public sphere are clearly perceived as marginal behavior in Russia the situation is the opposite. discrimination against minorities is part of state policy. as an example, I can cite the rules for selecting soldiers for the Kremlin regiment. Russia has openly stated that the selection is based on the factor of Slavic nationality, because they do not want their military structures to be represented by national minorities in front of foreigners
