Beautiful sense of phrasing. He really lets every bar and phrase breath.Almost feels like he's playing two bar phrases. His vibrato colour's not so fast or narrow which gives the notes further depth and resonance.
BRAVO! Born in 1985 to physicist parents of Korean and Ukrainian descent, Stefan Jackiw began playing the violin at the age of four. His teachers have included Z.Gilels, M.Auclair, and D.Weilerstein. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, as well as an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory. In 2002, the young artist was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant. Stefan Jackiw plays a 1704 Vincenzo Ruggieri. P.S.Stefan's father (Roman Jackiw, 1939-) is a very famous theoretical physicist.
Is his father Roman Jackiw Ukrainian or German? In Wikipedia it says Ukrainian but i just read yesterday that his father is German. The name Jackiw doesn't look German but certainly a Slavic name.
Oh! how beautiful and graceful 2nd Romance it is! I would have been listening many Romances so far. Mr.Jackiw and Yong! well done, especially their changing tempo through over to the end is veryvery nice combination, Mr.Yong played in so graceful touch accompaniment. occasionally I would love to listen to Heifetz & Steinberg Romance. (90yrs.Japanese) sorry strange English.
This is just beautiful. He puts thought into every technical detail while putting his whole heart into it as well. Now, that takes expertise. He makes Beethoven sound even more magical than it already is. And the pianist, too, he blends incredibly well with the violinist. Bravo to you both!
And now this pianist gets it, the first i have seen. Korea seem to be the violinist factory on this planet. I have never heard of these guys before, but man these two are good!!!!!!!!
This very difficult piece is played here with piano. In this rendition it shows all openness. The way Stefan Jackiw completes his task here is tremendously good. This beautiful young man is a great talent.
Nathan violinist In technical way not so difficult, but in other ways (musically, etc.) I found it quite a challenge to get it all right and nice. It's such an open piece of music. Lots of good luck with your exam. :-)
Every Violin note is extremely difficult. Technically, this piece is easy. I can play this piece in either Violin or Piano, even though I fail to play a single note of it to the level of playing Violin.
The vibrato on the open G string at 2:54, was very well explained by somebody below. Symphatic vibrato, he vibrates the G one octave higher ( 1st finger 3rd position on the D string) but without bowing on the D string. The ringing properties of the instrument makes a soft vibrato on the open G. After having this explained I have noticed the same by other violinists and also tried it myself.
Fantastic play of strings... Being a violinist myself I understand the emotions that are needed for the vibratos and the control of bowings. Beethoven is simply fantastic with these pieces. Classical romantic era was one of the best that ever existed. Bravo Stefan Jackiw
Claudio, I regret having to say this but if you say "Mr Ji-Yong accompanies egregiously", that's most insulting because in fact it means shockingly, appallingly, horrifically. I agree, though, that he certainly "deserves a share of the praise"! Please continue enjoying classical music.
Wow, what wonderfull musicians.. I'm really glad such thing as gravity exists beoucse if that didn't hold them back they would've left off to dream-land along with their notes:P
This performance is very beautiful ! This performance is made by clear sound and amazing expression. I performanced this music with pianist. I will performance this music in the future. Thank you for beautiful performance ! この演奏はとても美しいです。 この演奏は透明感のある音と素晴らしい表現で出来ていると思います。 自分もピアニストの方とこの曲を共演しました。 今後も演奏したいと思います。 素敵な演奏ありがとうございます。
Yes, an open G indeed... He does vibrato by vibrating the 3rd finger 1st position on D string (That's an octave higher than the open G), without playing it loud. This gives vibrato to the note which is an octave lower, the open G :D
Sure, you can say some violinists such as Heifetz don't do as much as him in terms of facial expression. Personally, I enjoy watching him. Each violinist has his own style in performing, and we should respect all of them. Thats all im trying to say. Cheers.
@ray16395 It is an open G, yes. (How else could a G3 be played on a violin, 0VoiceOfReason0?) He is doing sympathetic vibrato on the octave above - look carefully and you will see he is in third position on the D string vibrating his first finger on the G4. This, in effect, vibrates the lower octave open G. It is called sympathetic vibrato.
YO I meant no offense in my comment. This dude's a beautiful violin beast, haha. But having played violin for 11 years myself, it's hard to watch some people put that much strain into their emotions for that long. It's a lot of mental effort. I had the honor of listening to Stefan Jackiw in person when he stopped by my state, he's definitely talented. And not ugly. Just making that clear.
Everybody will have his fave performance of this beautiful piece of Herr Beethoven... But I can't say this was bad,not at all !! I loved every second of hearing this....In fact these two men sounded great together, although I mus say...the way sir Jackiw plays the violin gives me goosebumps, and even breathtaking at the high notes!
For anyone looking for the sheet music for this song, go on Amazon and look up Hal Leonard classical. It has this entire song and 7 other songs as well. Hope this helps.
Op50 came out late, though composed in 1798; it is influenced still by Countess Maria Lichnowski. According to Tassilo it has accordingly more sweep than the other romance because an older love interest is standing behind.
Hands down. He officially seized this masterpiece. Too flawless to be true. Best Romance I have ever heard.
Kesya Kimberly i saw You in an other video!
indeed
Beautiful sense of phrasing. He really lets every bar and phrase breath.Almost feels like he's playing two bar phrases. His vibrato colour's not so fast or narrow which gives the notes further depth and resonance.
Yup
Truly a singing vibrato, with all the vibrancy but relaxation at the center of each tone.
BRAVO!

*has eyes closed entire time* *still turns the page*
he has his eyes open when the camera is not featureing him
Lol
Technical wizardry combined with great emotional input and a superb violin, equal for me, a stunning performance. In my view, a truly great Violinist.
And now this pianist gets it, the first i have seen. Korea seem to be the violinist factory on this planet.

is it very
difficult?
Daniel Pena not really to be honest.. I'm learning this right now for my exam, after 3 day which means maybe 3\4hours I already know half of it.
Nathan violinist In technical way not so difficult, but in other ways (musically, etc.) I found it quite a challenge to get it all right and nice. It's such an open piece of music. Lots of good luck with your exam. :-)
Raoul Tak yes. you're right that musically and with emotions etc its difficult to play it very beautiful and nice.
Thank you :)

Excellent, wonderful , out of this world.! Thanks GOD for these two young talent artists. Music from heaven.! Thanks so much .
Absolutely STUNNING! So beautiful! It is sheer joy to listen to the two of you play! Bravo!
The pianist is fantastic!
This is a great performance. Congratulations go also to the pianist, Mr. Ji-Yong. He accompanies egregiously and deserves a share of the praise.
He plays with American style. I prefer free style or in other word without style.
Claudio, I regret having to say this but if you say "Mr Ji-Yong accompanies egregiously", that's most insulting because in fact it means shockingly, appallingly, horrifically. I agree, though, that he certainly "deserves a share of the praise"! Please continue enjoying classical music.
egregious is not the correct word choice here 😂
Awesome..., beautiful...! Stefan, you are just fantastic, and the piano is also amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great!!!
I like the regular version with the orchestra but having the piano just changes the dynamic and makes it more personal. Amazing!
This is probably the second best performance of this I have ever heard, the best one being unreal, this is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow .. such amazing Violonist
His sound is gorgeous.
Such a beautiful and romantic play

Wow, what wonderfull musicians.. I'm really glad such thing as gravity exists beoucse if that didn't hold them back they would've left off to dream-land along with their notes:P

haha I love how at 4:54 the bow sneaks into the picture next to the pianist and then recedes back out of the frame.
100% pure perfection
Pure Genius!!
Bravo! Very nice!
Bravo❣️tears are coming down!
epic facial expressions. But your interpretation is my favourite so far :)
Love it!

I agree. Sometimes the comments are just so puerile that it defies belief. The playing is first class. Who cares what the artist looks like.

I loved every second of hearing this....In fact these two men sounded great together, although I mus say...the way sir Jackiw plays the violin gives me goosebumps, and even breathtaking at the high notes!
