- Caroline from MyVolts shows us one of a pair of Alchemist Power Distribution Hubs (launching on Kickstarter today), highlighting its progression from prototype to production.
The Silent Alchemist and smaller sibling the Alchemist are designed with musicians in mind - the Silent version we saw offers 5 five isolated outputs with up to 20 watts each, plus an additional output providing 100 watts, also capable of powering devices like a MacBook.
Kickstarter: bit.ly/myvolts...
Alchemist can power various items, such as an Elektron Analog 4, Korg devices, and modular rigs from Intellijel, Pittsburgh and others with different voltage outputs through USB-C cables using the range of Step-Up tips including a new 15v converter.
The hubs can be powered by powerbanks an traditional power bricks, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of power sources. Caroline emphasized the hub's isolation feature, eliminating grounding issues common with other USB power supplies. There is also a non-isolated version available.
Additionally, Caroline showcased the evolution of their original Crazy Chain now featuring a polarity indicator and a robust design capable of handling up to 100 watts.
The Kickstarter launch for the Alchemist gives early bird backers the opportunity to receive a free basic Alchemist unit (non isolated).

This seems to be the perfect solution for powering everything.
As a video engineer, this also works in my world. So many converters are USB C powered. Love MyVolts. Thanks for solving a real-world problem!
Cheers!
perfect unit for playing live , this solves SO many issues
Excellent company with good people and good ideas. Top work.
genius comes in all forms, and power supplies have been long-overlooked... Thank you myvolts 🙌
Cheers!
This is an excellent solution to so many headaches for so many people. Bravo!
Alchemist kickstarter? uh, yeah! Can't wait 'til they come out!
I just pre-ordered the new USB-C Eurorack power supply from Black Noise Modular, and it seems to be the ideal solution for powering my new Eurorack supply and my other synthesizers!
I like that you're doing this outside. 👍
One of the few things I've seen from Superbooth I would buy. Still use my original ripcords all the time but I probably need to update once I have funds.
brilliant. going to power all my synths with this. no more furmans
🦶🔋 Kickstart it! A device we NEED for clean power with USB powered syntho boxes
Top tier pintmanship from the chap in back - demolished in 3 mins
Should have seen how quick I downed a pint after we filmed this vid!
@@myvolts1903 I can imagine 😄
I want one. Why has it taken until now for somebody to develop a powerboard for synths? Centre-negative pedal boards have been around for yonks. I love my Myvolts 5-way splitters/daisy-chainers for use with my Korg Volcas and Sonicware Livens. However, they do have ground loop issues without the addition of 3rd party isolators. So an isolated centre-positive powerboard would be superb.
Brilliant idea 😎
Seems great. My problem is when I plug my MOD-X into the computer via USB A/B, it causes audible interference with computer sound. Got anything for that?
Absolutely fucking brilliant. They need to advertise this more!
I should get one of these.
Myvolts were at superbooth? Didn't find them 🙁
Didn't have a booth. But were there
We took a year off boothing it. I borrowed a table off Reason to record this vid, they were super-kind. Everyone at SB is always giving each other a dig out, it's a really supportive environment.
Isolated outputs are so needed, USB high-pitched whine noise is nasty
I got so excited by this until i saw that the isolated hub is 700 euros...
yeah I'll just use a power strip
You get a lot for the 700 bucks, it's a full kit. But noted!
@@myvolts1903 Indeed you do. I assume it will be available standalone after the kickstarter?
You asked, we listened. We added a reward today, 389 EUR, Silent Explorer's Kit - a slimmed-down kit with Silent Alchemist in.
that's killer!
neat!!!
This gets a 'yes Yes YES'
so uh, the silent one looks incredible... and just so you know, its also €700. the small one not shown in this video is €200.
I think it's €299 actually. That's what they told me. It's a bit buried in the offers
@@sonicstate i really appreciate your reply- and i really wish i could buy it for €299. i can't find it at all, i only find bundles of the silent one with a bunch of add-ons and cables. i also thought maybe that one was sold out but it doesn't look like it on my end... again, thanks for your help and for the video!
Yep, 700 is quite steep!
@@jaygilligan yes, you can only buy kits right + add-on hubs now. If that changes, I will post it here.
@@myvolts1903 thank you so much for the reply- i love the product, would love to get a silent hub. for me the kit form on kickstarter is not ideal because even with all the parts of the kit i would still need to buy different and more supplemental parts to make my setup work. there would be many unused parts of the kit so if i could just buy the hub and then piece out the parts i need, that is more sustainable. hope your kickstarter goes good!
I don’t know. I got some of the StepUps and they were a compleat waist of money, time and excitement. Honestly, to me, the product just feels like a money grab and that’s a shame because it’s a great idea.
What was wrong with the stepups?
Its a shame. I really like this companies products. Unfortunately due to their absolutely piss poor customer service, I won't ever be buying anything else from them. Specifically, I bought a product that didn't work and upon contacting them about it, they told me they were aware that was case and that they had updated the product to work correctly. They then proceeded to tell me that I should buy the new version of the product, since they got it to work. How bout just send one out to replace the one that you knew wasn't working, and keep a customer. It cost you couple dollars to make it and sell em all day for $40 bucks. Its the little things. Not like they need my money anyway, right?
That sounds like the product wasn't faulty, rather, you bought it without making sure it could do what you wanted it to do. They just happened to develop a later version that did do what you wanted. The first version wasn't faulty, you bought the wrong thing. That's on you, not them.
Sell the first version, buy the second version, and own the consequences of your own mistake of not ensuring the product does what you need.
@@markzzzsmith funny of you to assume, but yes the item was sold specifically for the product I bought it for. Like i said they acknowledged it to be a faulty product and remade the same product to work in a different version. Pay attention before you speak now. No need to look silly.
I've been using the original Ripcords for years, they're great but can be a bit bulky to fit in adjacent sockets on a USB power hub - these new ones look particularly handy!
Caroline said the acid tent was her favourite. *please* someone tell her that the TS-303 pedals that were featured there use 12v centre positive PSUs.
I’ve had one for over a decade and hardly used it because at the time the only ones you could find were crappy, noisy, flakey Maplin ones. The guy who made them seemed to be baffled I couldn’t find one in the UK and wasn’t much help. So spread the word!
We came back to that tent 5 times to refill on good music!
Thank you! I saw that it was 12V when I was having a go of the pedal - I always snoop at power input, of course. I gave sample of the 12V to the other chap in the tent, with the Roland replicas, but not the pedal chap. I will reach out to him, thanks for reminding.
Great product! I supported the ripcord on kickstarter years ago and i think i did the first video review of it too. I powered everything from a korg minilogue to a pump for an inflatable mattress at festivals! Word got around that i had pump and i must have inflated about 4 mattresses for people, and had more 95% power left in the power bank!
Hah, nice to be useful, right?!
Great idea, this will be a very successful project
Caroline is the coolest
Yes. Yes I am.
@@myvolts1903 that's why i said ittttttttt
they are such cool people, every time I have had a question about what power supply I need for a pedal, audio interface or powering a combination of devices, they have always replied with a customised kit of what I would need to buy - great professional service
This is what i need for my mobile project. This is great!
omg ive been thinking about this for years!
hell yeah!
does it also send midi and audio data to laptop ?
I met Carolin at SB23 with two of my friends, it was kind of new, she didn't believe me i knew all of their products by heart :)
Hey! SB23 was my first one! So cool you knew all our products :)
@@myvolts1903 Hi! its great here from you, I currently use 3 pedal board power supplies to power my desktop synths but I would love to take advantage of this PD tech which seems more convenient and well thought out.
I wish you a successful kickstarter Carolin. I hope to see you again at SB25!
@@myvolts1903 We too will probably hang out with Paul at the DIN Sync tent :)
you will have this in every synth-heads home guaranteed, as long as the price is right.
Which, unfortunately....is not....$350 CAD plus duties assuming....mighty expensive.
Sorry I missed this to comment - there's a cheaper option now, a DIY kit version of Silent Alchemist (think NTS-1-like built). It's 199 EUR, you gotta back the t-shirt option at 20 EUR to add the kit as an optional add on. So t-shirt and DIY Silent Alchemist for 219 EUR. Hope that helps!
A real shame the smaller unit is not also isolated. Because there's no point buying on that isn't... you can just use your normal AC plug adapters for USB power.
As far as I understand it, isolated requires individual Usb-c chips, hence the price
Is it only for power or is it also a decent computer hub?
No data, only power!
So If you want to sync through usb that doesnt work? :(
@@athenamultimedia01-zs9opThis is power only. It’s also for people who want to do remote jamming outdoors! :) Total mobility!
@@athenamultimedia01-zs9op if you're talking about clock sync over that many USB things, then no you can't do that with this, and also you must REALLY hate yourself to want to go through that lol
@@athenamultimedia01-zs9op We're endeavoring to do one thing really well.
What is the data transfer rate of the isolated hub? Can it do usb2 or 3 full speed?
It's power only as far as I know
That's a lovely accent she has. New Jersey?
Haha no, Dublin, Ireland born and bred. Thanks though!
