I listened to this record as much as all my Smiths and Mozz records. Just bought Babelogue on vinyl. I played the cassette in the 80's until it wouldnt play any more. My brother bought me the CD years later and now the ultimate....vinyl. These songs still make me feel like they did back then. And I love when Mozz covers Raymonde.
I saw this lot supporting the Smiths at Maxwell Hall in Salford. Guitarist tried to smash his Telecaster at the end of the show. It didn't smash. Strong axes them Telecasters.
Say farewell to your fairweathered friends And not a second too soon To leave a life among ruins Well there was nothing left but to Cut ourselves loose These fascists and philistines Of violence and fashion These modern day philistines They stamped on your hands They stamped on my hands Any day now we'll perish These are nervous times No one can hold a candle to you When it comes down to virtue and truth No one can hold a candle to you And I, darling, dim next to you No one can hold a candle to you When it comes down to old-fashioned virtue Kingdom mine Open your eyes Make up your mind *Are we Einsteins? Or Frankensteins? You said blow them away To kingdom come Or will the kingdom be one? No one can hold a candle to you When it comes down to virtue and truth No one, no one can hold a candle to you And I, darling, darling, I dim next to you Hi-ro-shima Yes yes yes!
*I’ll be Einsteins Or Frankensteins Not sure which it is; I’ve listened to that part so many times, I now hear both versions. Or it could be something else entirely haha. If anybody knows for certain, feel free to leave a comment; or just sing whichever version you prefer/hear yourself, and continue enjoying this fantastic song. 😀 All the best.
Check out Raymonde by Raymonde, a fooking classic. Babelogue was underated, fool of fortune had pop hit all over it, but alas it wasnt. Saw them in Worksop along with 9 other devotees. You have to remember that in the 80's The Smiths and there ilk were hated by the vast majority - it was all fucking stock aitken and waterman.
WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS, I OBIOUSLY THOUGHT "A SMITH'S RIPOFF"; WHAT I DIDN'T RELAIZE THAT THIS ALBUM, RELEASED THE SAME YEAR THE SMITHS BROKE UP, WOULD GRAB MY ATTENTION AS GREATLY AS IT DID!! I WISH THIS BAND WOLD HAVE STAYED TOGETHER... WHO KNOWS HOW FAR THEY COULD RISEN.
People say my songs sound like Morrissey is singing a little, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not as I am a massive Smiths/ Mozz head, just worried it's not very original. Oh well, feel free to check out the songs on my channel if you please to.
Saw them many times, brilliant live and great album
Found Raymonde through Morrissey covering a Raymonde song.
Incredible singer.
-Matt’s dad Dan
Amazing song. I was only aware of it after hearing it on Morrissey's 'Songs To Save Your Life' compilation. Brilliant stuff.

More Morrissey than Morrissey.
Lol. Morrissey did a cover of this in concert.... Years ago.. I am sure you know...
Great song.
Haha , indeed!
It always was.
Babelogue is an absolutely awesome album, which I've listened to for decades. Every track still stands up. Superb

Baffling! A "typical" Morrissey Song!
Wonderful !

The 'Babelogue' album and all the singles and b-sides are great.
The earlier the better.
My fave is the "Stop Kicking My Heart Around" single mix.
The similarity to Morrissey is incredible! Morrisseys cover is exactly the same! Unbelievable.
Very good, I dig this
a brilliant album
Say farewell to your fairweathered friends
And not a second too soon
To leave a life among ruins
Well there was nothing left but to
Cut ourselves loose
These fascists and philistines
Of violence and fashion
These modern day philistines
They stamped on your hands
They stamped on my hands
Any day now we'll perish
These are nervous times
No one can hold a candle to you
When it comes down to virtue and truth
No one can hold a candle to you
And I, darling, dim next to you
No one can hold a candle to you
When it comes down to old-fashioned virtue
Kingdom mine
Open your eyes
Make up your mind
*Are we Einsteins?
Or Frankensteins?
You said blow them away
To kingdom come
Or will the kingdom be one?
No one can hold a candle to you
When it comes down to virtue and truth
No one, no one can hold a candle to you
And I, darling, darling, I dim next to you
Hi-ro-shima
Yes yes yes!
*I’ll be Einsteins
Or Frankensteins

I just looked this album up on Amazon. It's out of print. $144 for the one CD they had.
i enjoyed this just as much as the Moz version....
@ceira7 exactly, I couldn't believe it when I realised that Moz was actually singing a cover, the lyrics are so him
Fantastic.
Vine aquí por MORRISSEY 😍
stealth olde morrissey side project i swear -- that voice is so moz!
Surprised no one has mentioned how "Johnny Marr"ish the guitar sound is!!! Just saying!!!

At least one album - called Babelogue
these are nervous times
this band with this 1st CD were as good as any Smiths/Morrissey tunes; no doubt!
Any chance of uploading the rest of the album? I have it on vinyl, and I have been searching for it on RUclips. Thanks for this!
I have this album on vinyl too and thought they were an amazing band. Where are they now?
phil huish (guitarist) is my grandfather!!
The lead singer did backing vocals for mozza in the 80`s
Is this record available anywhere online? I can't find a service that sells a digital copy of it!
this sounds like morrisseys voice slightly and his kind of lyrics
trying to find info on Raymonde. not having much luck. can someone help me pls. thank you.
By the way, did Raymonde release any albums? :)

whoa you really are everywhere dude
So this is where Morrissey came from.
No wonder Moz thought he was a good singer. No wonder, fucking Geoff Travis did not.
Great tune but Mozzer did it better.
Qué fue primero, el huevo o la gallina?
