    Just wanted to let you know that it's really nice to have another great upcoming "Shmuptuber". You bring a very laid-back, welcoming attitude to all of your videos and I enjoy that a lot :). Looking forward to future content!

    Thanks Hazy, that was super interesting as always!
    The game is really beautiful on Famicom/NES, I only tried the arcade one and really love it. Now I also wanna play this version 😁

      Thanks for checking it out, Vinu! It can get pretty confusing with how many versions some of these older shmups have, but it's also cool to have different takes on the same game. It's kinda like having arranges before arranges. And yeah, this is very pretty for an 8-bit release!

      @@hazylevels yes you’re right it’s kind of arrange 👍. Konami did an amazing job with all those ports they adapted on consoles make them a bit easier and often add some stages , they did that a lot for gradius series too

    Just wanted to say this channel is fantastic and it’s really cool to see you branch into other shmup eras. Would love if you made an R-Type guide, but also not sure I want to wish that frustration on someone else lol

      Glad to hear you're enjoying the channel! Yeah, R-Type is probably too much for me 😅 I might give it a try at some point, though, just to see what I think of it.

    This game was it when we were kids but it was called LifeForce in North America. I thought it was probably impossible but back then just about every game seemed that way. Still haven’t gone for the clear but I pick it up every now and again. It still holds up pretty decently, and I guess that music is really nostalgic so 😂

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  10 месяцев назад

      Haha yeah, I definitely only cleared it as an adult! It's not a hard game once you learn some of the tougher spots, but back then I remember only seeing something like the first three stages.

    I played Life Force JP arcade last year and was impressed by the variety of the visuals and stage design. I also really love the Gradius II X68000 MT-32 arrangement of the Salamander boss theme.

    I've been on a bullet hell binge, specifically Cave. Got my for Cave 1cc, but even then, something about the classics I still love playing. I haven't played many 8-bit shmups, but plenty of 16-bit. Just got me a PC-Engine late last year, so really looking forward to biting into that. BTW, you mentioned it's cold. Do you live in Scandanavia or Eat Europe by any chance? I'm from Central California and it's been 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. That's plenty cold for me.😃

      @hazylevels  10 месяцев назад +1

      Cave binge is the best kind of binge! Honestly playing these older shmups makes me yearn for some danmaku gameplay, but I enjoy their aesthetics and sometimes it's fun to go through something simpler. And yeah, I'm in the Nordics and it was around -27 Celsius when I recorded this... Try seeing what that is in Fahrenheit 😉

    I had Life Force here in the UK and loved it, but when I go back to play it today I just haven't got the memory to remember all the sections. And tbh this game is all about remembering the exact route and enemy/growing obstacles etc. Very great game though, Konami made most of the best games back then

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  10 месяцев назад

      You're not wrong, the most challenging parts of the game are the ones that need a bit of foreknowledge. It's quite relaxed compared to a lot of NES/FC releases as long as you don't die in an unfortunate spot, but it would take same patience for sure if I was starting with it from scratch... Still a nice title!

    super!!!! life force was my first stg as well, but whether it or super mario was my first 1cc is a bit of a toss up, it's hard to remember that far back.
    it definitely feels unbalanced. i think stage 3 is a good kind of unbalance, where you suddenly have to play very defensively. that kind of quick change is very exciting even on replays. the emptiness of some stages is a bit sad, you can kind of feel like konami's home software division was stretched pretty thin.
    i always imagined the giant living thing you're inside to be more of a living planet, so like any planet it has all sorts of stuff inside, but with added guts and stuff? and a fire tunnel i guess? and space? lol, it's nonsense for sure, but it's really fun to imagine a space like that existing.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  10 месяцев назад

      Agreed with everything here! It sure has its share of good unbalance, sad emptiness and nonsense spaces, but guess all of that's also part of its charm.

    I think that was my first STG game. That was an illegal copy of the game, there were only pirated cartridges in Ukraine in the 90s. The game was patched. The patch makes force powerup infinite. If you have a force you can die only by collision with obstacles. We have a lot of fun by going thru the game in coop mode with my friend.
    Last summer I completed PCE version by using save states at the beginning of each state and each boss. And even with save states that was HARD, I don't think my skills are good enough to beat PCE version with 1CC.

      @alexanderr2632 10 месяцев назад +1

      The funny thing we didn't even know that games we were playing are pirated, there were no concept of "pirated" or "licensed" games at that time. At least for me and my friends 😅

      Thanks for sharing! I believe the PCE version is much more closer to the arcade, so makes sense it would be pretty hard. I like how the NES/FC version is quite laid-back for the most part.

    GG!! You're really branching out to the classics, nice job. I'm still grinding away at the first DDP.

    • @hazylevels
      @hazylevels  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! Though Salamander is kind of a cheat, cause it's a game I've been familiar with for a very long time, ha.
      DDP can be a struggle! But on the bright side, I think it teaches you just about everything you need to take on any Cave 1-all. Just be sure to get the hidden extend and use all of your bombs before dying, as you get lots of them.
