The Russians cheated. You had to be alive at this time to appreciate the adversity that the Canadians went through to win in Russia. It was an epic series.
Henderson was awesome but Espo took that team on his shoulders and said lets go boy's. Bobby Clark commented on that and when they played against each other there had to be some hate.
The Russian nationals played and trained all year round while the Canadian team was thrown together about three weeks prior. Most of Team Canada were coming off three months of beer, bbq's and golf.Given six months of playing and training together Canada would've won all eight as predicted!!!
Perhaps Team Canada should have had a set lineup for the entire series based on training camp performance and mental preparation. Too many players, many not used to playing together. Should have been a true all-star team; not a showcase. And, they should have invited several goalies to camp and chosen the two who were in the best shape and mentally prepared. Perhaps a Gilles Meloche or Ed Giacomin or Caesar Maniago would have been sharper than Dryden and Tony O.
you clearly doing same mistake what Canadas players did before that series. Soviets were very good no chance win all 8 games againts them. By game 8 Canadas stars already were together like 6-7weeks and played 9 games together that was enough time to to built chemistry and get in shape for NHL stars. And still last game they barely won on last seconds goal because soviets very really strong. Canadians injured soviet superstar Kharlamov and he was engine of Ussr team and they couldnt handle him (so Clark broke his leg in Game 6 and series turn around after that dirty shot from behind). In 1974 series Soviets won convincingly and Kharlamov was best player on the ice.
Considering how many years have passed, I am just grateful that any video remains of these games. Much appreciated.
Yes sir!
Watched many times and just as thrilling every time.
I agree.
Where was this World's Greatest Goalie I kept hearing about?? Didnt see him win in 1980 either! LOL
Приятно вспомнить! Go Canada!
It turns out they should have left Eagleson with the Russians 🤣

Without a doubt. The officiating was rigged.
I don't think it was as much about cheating as they knew Canada wouldn't take them seriously and could manipulate them.
@@wombatwilly1002 BS . They cheated !
@@michaeljacobs8368 You didn't hear about the antics they played on Team Canada---some of the players could tell you a lot.

Looking Back , Dryden was horrible ..
Totally agree Dryden sucked every game he ever played against the Russians.....Tony should have started game eight he earned the start
He got his rhythm back later In the series though, but he did let soft one's get by him.
Tony Esposito played better
Canada may not be great at many things, but Canada is the greatest hockey nation on planet earth !!!
I wonder how much the Russians paid Kampala.
Probably a trip to the Gulag.
Молодцы канадцы - они победили!!! Нет советского хоккея, и нет Советского Союза, и все советские хоккеисты убежали к ним!!! Почему ???
Я люблю вас

Canada managed to pick up their game as time was running out. They also had luck on their side.
