Henderson scored the game winner goal, 3 times. He scored the most famous goal in hockey history. Every Canadian of that generation, and all real hockey fans, knows his name (but not the names of many others on the team). If this is not fame, then what is? He should be in the Hall of Fame.

Czechoslovakia beat Soviets 9-3 in Prag 1975! Soviets biggets loss! Is Czechoslovakia 1975 greatest sports team ever! No! Soccer have 250 million players vs Canada 650000 players that means The Soccer All Stars would beat Orr Gretzky Lemieux easily 100 game Series 93-7! Canada have 650000 hockey players today! USA have 500000 hockey players today! Ovechkin's Russia have only 80000 hockey players today! Canada and USA should have 15 guys who have scored over 800 goals like Ovechkin today!!

This was probably Henderson's most amazing goal in the series. He was all alone against 4 defenders. The shot was so strong it bounced off the back of the net! That along with the back view as seen in the latter slo-mo, which is a poor angle and makes it look like it hit the cross bar and didn't go in, is probably why there was a delay in registering the goal. The front slo mo is more definitive around 5:09--5:10, it is possible to see the puck over Tretiak's right shoulder and over the goal line.

As an American and young kid in 1972 seeing Canada on the uniform to me was just like seeing USA when it comes to hockey I am an American and I am a Canadian and to me there's a togetherness with North Americans when it comes to playing those teams in those days and even today I feel the same way when I'm watching Canada play the the Russians. If they happen to lose I feel just as sick as if the Americans lost. The Russians were hand-picked national team that practiced virtually all year working on beautifully choreographed plays with precision passing. The Canadians had an All-Star team of many players that never played with each and they were out of shape because they were just getting ready for the NHL season so they probably had very little opportunity to even work on any type of set-plays. The Canadians also did not have Bobby Orr arguably the greatest player of all time or top 5 and Bobby Hull arguably the best winger of all time due to political reasons of not playing in the NHL that year but playing in the WHA. To wrap up the series in a nutshell the Soviet's were a fine tuned organized team VS a bunch of beer-drinking out-of-shape Canadian all stars that mostly didn't play together getting ready for the NHL season who played improvised street hockey and the Beer Drinker's won.

Not True! Pavel Bure's father won only bronze 100 meter swimming in 1972 olympics! Mark Spitz won gold in 1972! North America USA and Canada better training and better medical doctors in 1972! If Canada were out of shape then The results would had been 8-0 11-0 12-0 for Russians! Canada have 650000 hockey players today! USA have 550000 hockey players! Ovechkin's Russia have only 80000 hockey players today! Canada and USA should have 15 guys who have scored over 800 goals like Ovechkin today! Soviet League goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 they did not played in 1980 olympics!!

The Soviets had better results on the smaller North American ice and Canada had better results on the larger Olympic sized ice.A lot of people thought Canada might be in big trouble on the larger ice surface.

Ice size didn’t matter. Soviets were better conditioned games 1-4. Canada caught up games 5-8.

He was a young defenseman then. Surprised he made the team. Now Serve Savard was a gamer. Canada never lost a game he played in.

I think you are referring to number 5. That was Brad Park. Lapointe was number 25. Bergman was number 2, and Parise was number 22, so Park took 5 and Lapointe took 25.
