Tough choice. The Boxstet is a great Roadster too. It really comes down to what you prefer in the end. Porsche might be also harder to attain these days.
I test drove a 2018 model in the UK and it sounded great! The dealer did say though the newer models don’t sound as good due to having to comply with EU regulations!
The Z4 looks so good but you don't see much around my area. When I do, it's freaking awesome. Being in one I still have to do a double take when I see one on the road. It's that kind of car! And yes frozen gray is freaking awesome but it's $3k option. Went for Glacier Silver instead.
I have a m40i alpine white with magma. I rarely see any. Most of the time I do they're just a 30i, or boring black interior. But sometimes I see a nice spec like once every few months and I try to make it look like I'm not following them lol. I don't care for any other cars other than the last gen m2 which I enjoy being around. When I see the z4 especially the m40i in nice spec, I'm amazed. It looks so fkn good when on the road it makes me wonder how others must see me. In one day I got 6 people telling me how much they liked my car, and usually every day or every other day I get compliments. My m235i and m2 never got any. I got a z4 because i have other cars for passengers, and hate a sports car with stupid back seats anyway which I rarely use or hate to put people back there and have them litter

M40i 0-60 under 4 seconds. Always driving in Sport plus. Just 150 lbs more than Lotus Emira. Its my daily driver. Cant wait for electric assist motor for the next generation. This car has a very usable power. Nothing fancy or too much unnecessary.
Two different cars. I drove both the Z4 m40i and the Boxster GTS 4.0 in PDK. Z4 is more like a grand tourer. Boxster is a sports car. I liked both to be honest, and the price gap is a lot more than the actual differences in quality of driving.
@@bmwblog Yea me too. People who like hard top just probably want to drive around and say "hey I drive bmw". People who want soft tops intend to use it daily and prefer a faster lighter car. The top comes down in 10 seconds or less hard top takes like 2-3 times as long and is too heavy
@@bmwblog I mean the exhaust popping sound. not if I parked at the .. I have to be on the move in sports mode for the car to make that popping sounds. I watched your video and before you took it for a drive you were pressing the gas on parked and it was making the nice popping sound.. I tried multiple time but all I get was the engine noise. I figured there might be a setting all something idk.. it might just be my car haha

Have had sports cars of all types in my life and much like you I’m only interested in compact cars. I have a '21' Supra (weekend car) and usually get a new car every 2 years. After your review I’m going to go look at a Z4. (P.S. I’m envious of that fat beautiful steering wheel, Supra's is skinny)😕

I think this G29 looks great from the back ok from the sides but still not sure about the front, overall I think the previous E89 is a more cohesive design that still looks great. I have the E89 30i last of the NA inline 6 and use it daily!
@@bmwblog I don't know about that, I am actually liking the new M3 and M4, those big grills make them look super aggressive. Not so sure about the new 7 series though, that really doesn't look good, still wouldn't stop me buying the car if I was in the market for that type of car after all you don't see the front when you are driving or being driven.
@@joebloggs4191 the new 7 looks much better than last, so does the new 3/4 and it's m variants. However, I still see the g29 z4 as the better looking z4 compared to e89 all around. Yes the e89 had a nice front and side rear/front profile, but the rear was awful and sometimes the proportions looked off. The new Z4 front looks a lot like the gen v viper, or Mercedes amg gt, or merc sls, or jag f type etc. It's the perfect sports car. Sit far in the back by the rear wheels, long hood/bonnet
Same engine as the M240i, but that seems to sound a lot better! Is the exhaust system that different or what? The M240i doesn't crackle and pop like that!

The B58 has proven to be the most reliable modern BMW engine. It’s still too early to tell if the S58, found in the latest M cars will be as reliable. Most would agree that the B58 sounds better than the S58.
Leave away those dozens of repetitions and make a video with a third of the length, that would be much more comfortable to watch. As for me, I wasn't able to make it to the end.

I'm a current Z4 owner. And I absolutely HATE that they went to the cloth roof and dropped the hard top. I wont be buying a rag top version I love my hard top Z4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve owned two Z1s, a Z8, two E85 Z4 coupes (a 3.0 and an M) and still own a Z3M Coupe. The E89 was an elegant car with some lovely straight 6s and could at least be had with a manual gearbox, but a sports car it wasn’t, so I was never tempted. The current Z4 is more of the same. I think it looks pretty good and I know that it goes well - I’d rather one to a Mercedes SL - but again… it’s a sporty car, but definitely not a sports car. Which was a huge disappointment to me given the bluff from BMW before it was launched about how it would take the fight to the Porsche Boxster etc. I was ready to get excited until another overweight, automatic only also-ran chuffed out onto the stage to woo the ladies.
@@stephanforseilles Really? Are they grossly overweight automatics as well? I’d assumed they were as light as you could reasonably get a super car without going mental and that each used an automated manual or DCT. Even with their new hybrids.

The small changes make a big difference. The horizontal mesh especially makes the car look more sporty and I think it is way better than before.

Allow about 15 seconds after cold start, change to Sport+ mode and rev. I promise your landlord will give you a quit notice the next day.
