- This review is the US MRE Pizza Slice....I know, I know, those folks at Natick's Feeding Directorate worked a long time in trying to perfect a "shelf stable" pizza and well....you guys do have a way to go. Now we need a "personal cooker" or "griller" to put it in to toast the bottom and warm the top through a FRH just doesn't cut it, neither do propane/butane stoves (they catch sh*t on fire! Almost house HAHA! That Nuun tablet worked great transforming that grape drink though, pseudo-carbonation.

It's just such an odd combo. Like who even came up with it to begin with, pineapple on pizza never tasted right. I've eaten quite a bit of it and I don't think I ever had a pineapple pizza that wasn't complete trash lol.
Never met ONE ITALIAN that said....

It's amazing the changes in MREs nowadays. I grew up with MCIs. My granddad was a reserve supply sergeant after serving in World War 2. When the army was transitioning to MREs, the powers that be told him to dispose of the old Korean War and Vietnam vintage rations. (Throw it away, burn it, just get it out of inventory.) So, we grandkids wound up with cases of stuff. Peanut butter, jelly, cocoa beverage powder, crackers, chocolate, mains, coffee... We polished it all off with gusto. Although, I sometimes wonder how we never got food poisoning from the gnarly green eggs and ham. Yeah, guys today get pizza, but sometimes I miss getting my hands on some good old fashioned stuff. (Poundcake soaked in fruit cocktail was amazing. I don't know what was up with the fruit cocktail, but the juice would burn if you put a match to it.)
I bought a few of the pepperoni pizzas and tried one when they were fresh (~2 months old) for a reference point… opened one recently after a year and can say that they are not aging particularly well.
Good to see you Gundog ! Years of food development, they have succeed to some extend,it doesn't look like a good meal, but hopefully for boys far away from home it can bring some good memories.
To geht some carbonation in the drink mix I disolved the beverage powder in a tiny bit of hot water. (Actually like a sirup) After letting it cool down i added some cold soda water or similar stuff (like Sodastream). Works like a charm!

Ain't that the truth! My grade school pizza was a feast by comparison. (of course, we had a one in a million lunch lady, made everything she could from scratch. RIP Mrs. Keene.)

Sir, it is entirely possible to only eat a single slice of pizza... Provided that it is a thick crust pizza which has been sliced fast and efficiently in a simple cross-shaped pattern, thus dividing the whole pizza into a total of four slices. 😉

I tried the MRE Jalapeno Cheese many times and I enjoyed so much.
Just me who could eat MRE's for the rest of my life, not just do they taste amazing but the packaging is so aesthetically pleasing

Something about the interplay of the salty fattiness of cheese and the sweet, enzyme bite of pineapple really appeals to me. I understand some folks just don't dig it, and that's fine, but it's 100% on my palate's menu -- especially after Parmesan rains from the heavens onto that delightful slice.

Pineapple on pizza rocks. I am guilty of that as long as its a pure mozzarella pizza. I do eat more than one piece though, you can probably tell that though. Great video though Gundog!

I don't know about that blueberry cobbler. When I was in the Marines (1986-1992), we used to take the dehydrated peaches and mixed it with the coffee creamer, and add a little bit of water and Viola, delicious yogurt 🤣

It's a good thing that the cherry-blueberry cobbler tastes _far_ better than it looks, because it looks like something a Smurf might leave in the loo. I'd honestly rather have the hexagonal, thin crust, cellophane-cheesed single-serve government pizzas I had when I went to public school for a year, than whatever the heck that was Bridgford put in the bag.
They should do 2 slices and get rid of the bread sticks.

Gundog...Looked for a #24 at the commissary. Nope. A couple of #1 and a whole bunch of #11. Also a lot of TOTMs with that menu item. NObody seems to want Veggie Crumbles with Pasta in Taco Sauce. (It's not that bad, actually. But apparently a reject.)

I tried these when they initially came out, and honestly, it wasn't terrible (like the omelet), but there's WAAAAY better entries in MREs then this.
You should do a video where you supplement the entire mre menu with your prefered items of choice lol. Your perfect ration.
I plan on doing that very thing in an upcoming IMP vid. Will be exciting and controversial at the same time haha

You made the best of some not so great entrees. I don't mind the regular MRE breadsticks...but those Italian ones are kind of nasty. Just taste a bit off to me. Still haven't tried the MRE pizza...one of these days I guess I'll have to torture myself. :)
Nothing wrong with pineapple on pizza! I add jalapeños or banana peppers with it too! Sweet, savory and spicy!

Just got an MRE Bacon Cheese Spread
This pizza slice would be good, but not as a main dish but in the FSR like them sandwiches, like have a sandwich, have a pizza slice aswell, but having that much as a 'main course' is just lame

This is the "elementary school cafeteria" MRE.
I went to public school for a year during my mid-teens and I lived for the weird hexagonal single-serve government cheese pizzas the cafeteria offered every Wednesday for lunch. It was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a high-cuisine pizza, but it sure did slap my youthful taste buds in the right ways. They were likely far superior to the sadness Bridgford packed into this little sachet.

How do you tell the difference between a ration from 2018 and one from 2008? In school, I always had chocolate milk with my pizza. I don't feel the chocolate protein drink to be that out of place. And I don't judge about the pineapple, because most toppings don't belong on pizza if you are a serious pizza traditionalist. Some people feel pepperoni and sausage don't belong on pizza.
You really don't if the packaging doesn't change. That's why I'm such a huge fan of the Canadian 5 digit date code. That being said if you open it up and check the contents you can use mreinfo.com/menus to confirm what year it is.
you know gundog, i don't even know why they even bothered with pizza in the MREs!! they should have just shipped frozen pizzas to the mess halls seeing how troops aren't in the field for weeks at a time away from a mess hall like in the past! it'd been cheaper faster and a whole lot damn easier to do than wasting 20 plus years and who knows how much money on piss poor middle school cafeteria pizza!!
