Wouldn't C# have broader uses compared to PHP, if someone had to choose between learning one or the other? Wordpress it's not just a cms, it's a flexible framework which allows to create whatever you want, using the existing predefined hooks, filters, classes, roles etc.

Currently I'm beginning transitioning from woo/wordpress to laravel based app. As per my experience building two ecomerce site with woo, its hard to customized without 'hacking' the core even there are hundreds of plugins available. For me, understand ing your database schema is important for business, and for scaling your business. And woocommerce database is messy because it used wp database. I would use woo for early stage of business 1-2 years, in the meantime I start building with laravel to prepare scaling and easy maintenance.
digitalsketchguy it depends on what the client actually need. If all client needs is something that can be done with plug and play, then WordPress is great. But if indeed there's something custom, clients need to prepare budget for it. Yes, buying car is similar.

What about client budget. Wordpress is plug n play by comparison to building a bespoke web app with Laravel. You're talking Skoda vs Bentley
