  • 1562, The Huguenots sensing the coming wave of violence against their sect, look for opportunities on the fringes of the Empire. Spanish Florida, boarding the French claim to parts north remained Native and had not one loyal Spanish subject, perhaps it could become part of New France? What's the worse that could happen...

When I was in school at UNF I minored in Anthropology with a focus on archaeology. We did a dig (salvage archaeology on a bluff above the St Johns near the south end of the Dames Point Bridge. Fascinating assortment of artifacts in what was a midden. I really appreciate the quality of your video.

    (15 August 2023)
At 34:35 minutes of this video the narrator mentions the loss of French Charlesfort in South Carolina.
    The issue for me?
The narrator shows a print of Fort Caroline in Florida on the St. Johns River, NOT Charlesfort in South Carolina!
Charlesfort had FOUR WALLS whilst Fort Caroline in Florida had only THREE WALLS!
At the bottom of this engraving, and barely visible to the naked eye, is an inscription: F. Mai, the Fluvius Mai, i.e. the River of May, the French called today's St. Johns River the Mai, as the location of a future Fort Caroline was first found in May of 1562.

These early videos are just cycles of images added to the audio podcast, the newer ones are slightly more on point. I figured it was better to have some graphics, instead of just the podcast logo as some podcasters do on RUclips

Another great video Eric! I like the drumming...maybe you can use some Ken Burns effect to get animate your illustrations better ! I like the flame and smoke effects in other videos! Your story telling is the most captivating, so keep that up and you can just show a blank screen.

Interesting stuff. French Protestants are still rare in North America's Franco communities. I've actually never met one in my own .

Now is a good time to mention that wench did not mean a sexually loose woman. It means a woman of child bearing age. They want to return home and start a family

Years ago I heard the Spanish who came up from St Augustine to deal with Charlesfort discoverid it abandoned. They found 1 of the French marble boundary claim pylons there and shipped it to Spain whereupon King Phillip had it placed to the left of his thron.

would have really enjoyed this, but can't watch it due to the background drumming! WHY??????

The later new France episodes have little to no background, they are out there just not on RUclips yet. Some people like the feeling of the drums building up to a violent or dramatic event. Basically I'm trying to manipulate people.
