Your video was very good, and your summary of Doyle's style is accurate. But just so you know there is another style of Irish stick fighting that holds the stick vertically with one hand, about 1/3 of the way up, and fights from that position, using some interesting attacks and defenses. I encourage you to check it out. Keep the videos coming!
Good point. Doyle trained in kung-fu and earned the title of sifu before he convinced his father to let him teach Irish stickfighting. I'm just using his preferred title.
This was interesting to watch. .....your Sword / Rifle grip is good but no better than others depending on range and application when needed in fluid combat. like your video's .....please make more.
@@BigStickCombat not bad. I practice going from double handed grip to a baseball type swing grip depending on my movement and what my counter/strike is. I've coupled basic swings/strikes that most people will use along with Doyle clan guards/strikes. Keep it as natural as possible reducing (not negating) pauses or stop/switch/strike if that makes sense.
First, his grip on the stick is wrong. Next he isn't even remotely using the stick correctly. Irish stick, you are moving constantly as is the stick. Conclusion, a trained Irish stick fighter would destroy a standard "stick" fighter. As a side note the Doyle system is a defensive system at best, Antrim Bata is a more well rounded style.
I would happen to disagree, it all depends on the person and there are many different styles of Irish stick fighting , they're are some forms where you use the stick like a saber, which wasn't as common buy still viable
Light sticks are nice and comfortable for training, but useless for self defense purposes, just watch some of the " dog brothers" fights. They are used to swing way against each other and still having fun in those full contact matches. Even more, watch Trinidad and Tobago traditional stick fighting, they kick the living days of each other without getting really hurt, just some bruises. Think about a stick against a deadly weapon as a knife. There are a couple of vids around in which knife wielding attackers were destroyed by huge and heavy sticks. Think twice. Light sticks are no match for another weapon. The cold steel shillelagh is a great self defense option in this sense, way superior than a bat which is so tip heavy. Regards.
If you have a hard wood stick that has a 1" diameter and is anywhere from 2 two to three feet it's is still a viable weapon, you see once the weapon is lighter and more evenly spread out in terms of weight and balance then it becomes easier to use, you can swith positions with much greater speed and attack at greater speeds, and the damage it produces is relatively the same thanks to the speed it can acheive and the small distribution surface
Sorry sir Your not doing the Doyle system right. You should really train a system with actual Doyle instructors before trying to point out weaknesses with in the system. Examples wrong grip fist punches not done properly and done properly number 3 block can stop an over head vertical strike such as the one you displayed.
@@BigStickCombat if your going to point out weaknesses in a particular system you move as it done in the said system properly. otherwise it looks like you watch you tube videos. trust me what seen on you tube isn't the same when you train with an instructor even if its only a handful of actual training sessions. cause we all know that proper body mechanics footwork and timing are key for executing techniques.

I literally just ordered the cold steel. Hopefully it isnt too heavy for me.

Thanks, J.
Which style is that?
Antrim Bata method. Search for a channel by a guy named zibtor on RUclips and another guy named Maxime Chouinard
Awesome shirt!
Well done.
Why are you calling an Irishman, teaching Irish stick fighting "Sifu"?

The advantage of rifle grip as I see it is the ability to slide into bat grip.

force = mass x velocity

@@BigStickCombat nope not the system. All systems are good it’s how they’re being taught practiced researched and trained
