Don't port to Shatt. Hearth to your garrison, take the bird rider to Exarch Refuge in Talador, then fly to Shatt on your mount. I am a mage, and I used my portal to Shatt, and I could not see the feather. The way I described above worked.

Shattrath looks completely different for me and no feather anywhere there
It's probably due to phasing.
