I was 15 when the book came out. Muslims went from being passive to angry, loud and violent. I’d never seen my people like this before - it was shocking. I bought the book, trying to figure out what was so offensive. (Honestly, the book is offensive, in that Rushdie is a far better writer than this. Miles better. Midnights Children is a piece of art next to SV which lacks his literary genius… 🤔🤔🤔)… Anyway… even then I wondered whose faith was so fragile that it would be shaken by this book. Was Islam so vain that one was never allowed to look? The superiority complex of those who chose to protest, burn the book, scream, shout, to demand protection where no other religion is protected; arrogance, hypocrisy and an embarrassment. Religion of peace? Don’t make me laugh. Religion of intolerance, hate and aggression. Proven everyday, around the globe. This piece is a case in point. The man must survive. He is a symbol of the strength of Ex Musa’s. A quiet voice in the cacophony. He must live as a tribute to the freedom of expression for all those unbound by cultist symbolism. Edit: in answer to the question, what was so offensive to Muslims, there are 2 things that are cited as offensive. Firstly, the inclusion of the second line in the satanic verses as doctrine. The first line talks of the pre-Islamic goddesses that were worshipped, the second talks of how they should be exalted. It’s this second line that Mohamed said was given to him by satan, after his companions complained that it promoted polytheism. secondly, the main main protagonist visits a brothel where all the ladies are named after the prophets wives.
Do this Guy deserves to be called as Prophet ?? 1.Being a Prophet of God (who aught to know better) marries a 6 year old girl and consummates the marriage when she turns 9. 2.His marriage to his daughter-in- law (adopted son’s wife) after being responsible for breaking up his marriage; and then pretending that All*h had married her to her. He ordered his adopted son to go on a dangerous campaign, knowing full well that he would be killed. 3.Marrying the 17 year old Jewish Saffiyah, after ordering that her husband be killed for hiding the tribe’s treasure, during a raid on a Jewish settlement. 4.Ordering the beheading of 800 Jewish men, and taking their wives and children as slaves and captives, after a raid on a Jewish settlement. Showing no mercy for male prisoners who had surrendered. 5.He ordered the killing of critics and poets who wrote critical poems and articles about him. The Poetess Marawa was asleep with her young children about her, with the youngest at her breast, when a spear was thrust through her by one of Mu*am*d’s followers. 6.He ordered his followers to raid, rob and looting Caravans for a living. 7.He uttered hate verses against Jews and Christians, and blamed his alter ego All*h for the verses. 8.He gave licence to his men to have forced sex with female captives captured during raids and battles. Many were married women. 9.M*ham*d gave licence to men to beat their disobedient and disloyal wives. Men can have up to four wives and any number of concubines and slaves. 10.His Sharia laws and penalty for religious crimes, such as stoning for adultery, and the death penalty for apostasy continues to be practiced to this day. M*ha*ma ordered the limbs of thieves to be chopped. 11.According to haid*th. Some muslim scholars believe to sleep or have sex along with dead bodies .for this.,they give reference of haida*th that prophet slept in grave. In current era,mu*lim of pakistan protect the grave of young women upto 1 week. Because of thefting dead bodies.
Many (most?) M****ms probably don't know these facts. The first M****m I ever met didn't even know that her religion (like most religions) is a ragbag of competing hostile sects. She insisted that I***m is "a united religion." That's what she'd been told by her family and i*am at the mosq-uito. As we were at a university, I told her to look it up in the library (this was before the internet). She returned shaken and angry that she'd been lied to. After a few years of secular education in a civilized country, she abandoned this appalling worldview and is now a happy atheist--not without serious family ructions, of course.
The way he is portrayed makes him seem like a guy who has ‘revelations’ based on what’s convenient for him…the fact he makes his followers pray for him before Allah shows you that…
People who have self respect do not get hysterical over a book or cartoons. It's precisely because they lack this that they need so much respect outwardly.
True, I always liked this quote "“How much truth is contained in something can be best determined by making it thoroughly laughable and then watching to see how much joking around it can take. For truth is a matter that can withstand mockery, that is freshened by any ironic gesture directed at it. Whatever cannot withstand satire is false.” Peter Sloterdijk, Critique of Cynical Reason
Nothing to do with self-respect. Muslims are acting/behaving exactly according to Quran which says anyone showing slightest hint of disrespect to Islam/Quran/Muhammad must be killed due to blashphemy. Anything that does not absolutely glorify Islam/Quran/Muhammad can be considered to be blasphemy.
"If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn't exist today. Islam would have ended since the death of the Prophet Muhammad (PUBH), opposing apostasy is what kept Islam to this day." - Youssef Qaradhawi, Islamic scholar, in one of his interview on Egyptian TV.
@Postmortem Colonoscopy You should be worrying about your own faith problems, you people don’t even acknowledge the Pasmanda caste, your sectarian conflicts, let aside solving them. To solve the conflicts of Hindu society, people came from within the Hindu society, so no need of your divide and rule politics, go solve your own internal issues first.
I'm so angry about this. There are no blasphemy laws in my country but because of the fear inflicted by the Muslim community, people sensor themselves. This needs to stop, my government needs to take a stance against this.
And the hypocrisy of one of their own Hadiths literally calling for a global Holocaust and then playing victim to Salmon Rushdie's genius. That's the "peaceful religion" for ya... And then they even tried to use antisemitic literature as a comparison for their own defense (as if antisemitism or criticisms of Judaism or Christianity arent abundant, yet Jews and Christians don't call for anyone's head). What about the GLOBAL HOLOCAUST in their Hadiths? And the raging antisemitism and Christian hate throughout the Quran? If their requests for literature that insults faith to be banned or outlawed were to happen, their own Quran would be banned. It commands them to subjugate Jews and Christians as "Dhimmi." And they did and still do. Horrific segregation, oppression, extortion, enslavement, and ethnic cleansing. Jews had to even wear a yellow belt out in public to be identified as Jewish (sound familiar?). It called to desecrate Temples and Churches and not allow Jews or Christians to repair them. It states that Jewish people are "pigs" and "part lizard" (hmm wonder where the "lizard people" conspiracy comes from). It commands them to literally kill Apostates, and they do. This just barely touches the surface of the religious supremacy and hate of other religions throughout that book. The Satanic Verses merely exposed just another one of the major flaws of Islam. Good for Rushdie, and it's sad that the Fatwa was still held onto for so long. He is a hero and a warrior of the mind.
This was an excellent presentation. Though I was surprised no mention was made of the brutal murder of Van Gough, the relative of the artist!, for his making a movie of the Ayan Hirsi Ali book, I think 'Infidel' and the constant threats against her. Believers so often feel that any insult to their ideology is an attack on them personally. We should always be allowed to attack ideas. Resorting to violence shows one cannot defend their ideas, and no ideology that supports violence will ever be safe from radicalism. 👍🌊💙💙💙🌊🥰✌
Roald Dahl's despicable reaction should be seen in the light of his notorious antisemitism. As for Yusuf, The Artist Formerly Known as Cat Stevens, formerly Steven Demetre Georgiou (identity crisis, anyone?) he is a psychologically frail individual who needs simplistic answers to the uncertainties of human existence, so he goes swanning around in his cosplay Arabic gear and spouting the nonsense that his co-religionists love. It would be interesting to see how he would manage in Saudi or Iran--or Afghanistan, where playing music is severely punished.
Playing music in Saudi is severely punished? And you wrote this 7 months ago with concerts happening in Saudi? Either you are ignorant or a willful liar. Both options embarrassing for you.

Aren't we all just far too tired of the trite & hysterical allegations of blasphemy? Seriously. Just get over these minor divisions among humanity. Let's focus on preserving human life on our living planet, Gaia. ... those who claim the right to kill because of their religious sensibilities just do not want to share the world. ... consider whose sensibilities are offended by your claim of the right to murder. You're offending me and countless others. Should I claim the right to kill you? no, of course not. Live & let live. No one has the right not to be offended. Certainly no one has the right to murder because their sensibilities are offended. If that were the law of the land then we would have rampant murder & endless vendettas. .... Europe lived through this during the Reformation era. Ireland suffered inter-faith violence for centuries longer. Indulging such visceral hatred is not sustainable for civilized nations. That's why SECULARISM developed. We need to cherish our secular institutions and practices.
My parents grew up in middle east as muslims but they moved after the war so, I grew up in the church and thought that was the whole religion just going to church every Sunday and eventually stopped going and started to do my own thing. Didn't really grasp it and was very young. But I wanted to find the purpose of life because I knew everything we worked for would pass away. So I started to look into all the religions to see if christianity was even really the ultimate truth. Later on opened up the Bible and saw the Jesus people talked about was completely different from what was in the Bible. I started to draw closer to the higher power and had a supernatural encounter with him and I felt his love and peace and was indescribable and overwhelming almost but was out of this world, nothing i've ever felt truly from then on and never will tbf, but I was shocked because I wasn't expecting this, so I went up to my balcony and everything looked brand new like it was the first time seeing it when I looked outside. Almost like a new born and it was like it was so detailed everytime I went out before this it was mundane and so dull to me kinda hard to describe. and I’m here to tell you it’s about a relationship not religion and he is real and did die on the cross for you willingly and thinks you as the only person and was thinking of you while dying. All we chase in this life is temporary think about your eternal life.

The book is actually written in a satarical form - think Master and Margarita meets Kurt Vonnegurt. The rage against Rushdie has less to do with the contents of the book itself but a deeper disdain towards Britain and a failure of multi-cultural integration of muslims into Britain. The intellectual minutia of the Muslim leadership could never really grasp the cultural or political victories of a liberal England. , instead what was desirable was the wealth, the material benefits and sterling pound. When Rushdie broke out of the mold of brown Brits being simpletons who were there just for the cleaner streets and better money, and claimed his place in the literary genius of English literature, the threat to the incestuous muslim elites of England was too much to bear. English muslims were the bulwark for the demagoguery of brown Brits, and could not be risked being exposed to critical satire like what Rushdie had written. The fatwa that followed was the final nail in the coffin, ensuring the death of any liberal victories amongst English muslims. This ensured a generation of activists, privileged and rich muslim Brits who nevertheless could inherit none of the cultural greatness of English, except for a superficial sense of chauvinism and wealth.
Everyone should watch this video because it lays bare the conflict between our civilized society and Islam. At the same time, the producers of this video talked too much about religious feelings in general when they should have stressed that it is only Islam and Muslims that we are concerned about. The narrator of the video also made an unnecessary concession to the followers of Islam when he read the statements by President Jimmy Carter. Carter clearly used the word "Moslems" at least twice because that was the standard way of referring to the followers of Islam at that time. Instead of reading it the way Carter said it, the narrator changed it to "Muslims" which is the way that followers of Islam insist that we English speakers refer to them. "Moslems" is a perfectly legitimate English word which was used widely in the Islamic world, and we should not feel compelled to stop using it merely because Moslems now say that they feel offended by it.
I'd say it's an even broader conflict between the civilized world and religious conservatism in general, given how Christian conservatives insisted on keeping those blasphemy laws instead of abolishing them like a civilized people should do. Even Putin is intertwined with Russian Orthodoxy and is partly fighting a "holy war" against "Western values". And the Christian conservative attacks on reproductive rights and voting rights in America is also concerning. They want "patriotic education" in their schools and they're getting readier for violence with each passing day. Religious conservatism in all factions should be fought against and should lose power and influence in politics.
It doesn't matter how much offense is caused, people have the free will to choose violence. They have decided the best society is one of fear and not civilization.
@Postmortem Colonoscopy Haha, you can cope more, your artificial buffer state only exists to separate India from USSR's influence, and now when USSR don't exist anymore, and the ties of India with USA-UK is getting strong, it is about time your artificial state will be dissolving soon.

Satirical Magical Realist piece regarding Salman Rushdie incident.... This is what my fellow Muslims should do when someone insults our great Nabi (SAW)? I believe that when someone insults our Nabi (SAW) it is nothing but a test from Allah'tala. Allah is testing us to ensure we maintain our composure, our restraint, our patience, our tolerance against those who degrade the image of our beloved Prophet (SAW). Whenever we detect an insult, we should approach those who have no respect for our Nabi (SAW) and embrace them closely and warmly with compassion and humility. We must do this to show how amazing Islam is - in that we persevere in the face of hate and criticism. We must love and respect those who hate our Prophet. These are the teachings. This is the Way. When these evil people see what Muslims are, and what Islam teaches they will immediately abandon their own belief and accept Islam. Our beautiful deen will grow faster than ever before. Alhmadulliah. Allah will be pleased as we've passed the test and we will all enter Jannah inshAllah. What is happening now is a failed test. After every insult our Muslim brothers and sisters go on a witch hunt against those who insult, with assaults, killings, bombings, stabbings, death threats, violence, anarchy and general mayhem. Even those who silently support these radical Muslims are failing the test. Those who were thinking of embracing Islam will now turn their backs on the greatest religion of Peace because of these extremists.
Please pass me some of your wisdom

May I ask what is so offensive about this book?
@@tarun1982 That was my first thought.
I read it and really, could not see it.
This is why I am an apostate of Islam and now Catholic (Vatican 1) I pray for Rushdie, his attackers and western Liberalism.
FALSE prophet, no doubt.
Or "self proclaimed prophet" like David Koresh and L. Ron Hubbard...
Indeed. And this is the creature M*****s regard as a "perfected being" to be emulated. Horrible.
The way he is portrayed makes him seem like a guy who has ‘revelations’ based on what’s convenient for him…the fact he makes his followers pray for him before Allah shows you that…
he did not insulting he actually exposed what the Arabic cult /islam/ what it's
People who have self respect do not get hysterical over a book or cartoons. It's precisely because they lack this that they need so much respect outwardly.
True, I always liked this quote
"“How much truth is contained in something can be best determined by making it thoroughly laughable and then watching to see how much joking around it can take. For truth is a matter that can withstand mockery, that is freshened by any ironic gesture directed at it. Whatever cannot withstand satire is false.”
Peter Sloterdijk, Critique of Cynical Reason
Nothing to do with self-respect. Muslims are acting/behaving exactly according to Quran which says anyone showing slightest hint of disrespect to Islam/Quran/Muhammad must be killed due to blashphemy. Anything that does not absolutely glorify Islam/Quran/Muhammad can be considered to be blasphemy.
"If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn't exist today. Islam would have ended since the death of the Prophet Muhammad (PUBH), opposing apostasy is what kept Islam to this day."
- Youssef Qaradhawi, Islamic scholar, in one of his interview on Egyptian TV.
Yes!

I am surprised by Roald Dahl's despicable reaction.
Playing music in Saudi is severely punished? And you wrote this 7 months ago with concerts happening in Saudi? Either you are ignorant or a willful liar. Both options embarrassing for you.

Brilliant work. Very informative. Thank you.
This channel needs to make more documentaries. This was excellent
A marvellous documentary worthy of many views and prizes.

A ban on offensive material would ban both the Quran and the Bible. Both are offensive to secular humanists.

@@dallasbrat81 it's unlikely that Christianity would have been so common if not enforced by the emperors I.e. by the edict of thessalonika. For some reason, the two more violently enforced religions are the most successful to this day. Although people are healing from religions at rate which was unimaginable only decades ago.
@@nefaristoLook how Christianity started not by sword like the other one. it's growing in Middle East and Aferica soon there will be more Christians outside the West then inside . Christians in Iran are spreading under penality of Death . Christianity is different.
@@dallasbrat81 yes, Christianity is different from Islam, it's relatively less violent (though the Bible god was immensely violent unfair childish etc, and Christ invented hell which wasn't there before); I just said they were the two most _violently spread_ religions, and they are the most successful.

Salman Rushdie ♥️
Salman Rushdie... Is hero..

So don't be offended when someone calls you a kike then, kike/yhid

This makes Allah'tala very angry and you will bring his curse and wrath upon you.
Once you fail the test there is no coming back. Jahanam (hell) is your final resting place where you shall abide therein forever.....
