Same when I was a kid. You'd go outside to play with the neighborhood kids, the only time you came back in was to grab a glass of water and a snack, then you'd just stay outside until it got dark, or you heard you mother yelling for you.

That "Precious" line had me cracking up. It is such a sad movie about a huge teenage girl with a super abusive mom that I immediately saw one of the scenes he was likely talking about. It was so sad and dark that it WAS almost funny. Actually a great movie, and no not at all a comedy.

I was an only child, both parents worked, kind of a "latch key teen" which is when trouble and temptations arise. Grew up in 60's. Life was sweet, no electronic anything, played outside unless raining...live in So. California, so that was rare.
Raised my son alone but with discipline. He now has a 8 year old girl, he was a stay at home dad, as his wife works in Hollywood making big bucks🤓 He grew up without dad, but with many positive male role models. He's a fantastic dad!😍

The most hilarious jokes are the darkest, you will never laugh as hard as you will talking to vets laughing about the darkest stuff of horrors you can imagine. Laughter isn't always connected to happiness, there's a lot of truth to say "you can laugh or you can cry". It's a coping mechanism. I usually find the people who laugh at dark humor are usually the best adjusted, most grounded, most chill, and easy going people you will know.

The only time I associated with kids/friends my age was at school at least until around high school but even then we still hung around with ppl older than we were. Even now in my close to mid 40s the majority of my friends are older than I am. Changes happen when you have a huge county with a huge population, America is a melting pop of a lot of stuff. But more rural areas don’t have a huge change if any changes, then social media, technology improvements, etc… it’s relative.

Don't know if it's true, but I see some George Carlin influence in Bill Burr. He brings some great points about humanity and where we are as people. We didn't specifically cause a situation, we can't fix it whatsoever, so what's wrong with finding some humor in it? Even psychologists will say it's a healthy way to cope with stress.

Precious (spoilers I guess?) is a movie about a teenage girl raped by her father, catches HIV from it, gives birth to a child with Down Syndrome, while trying to get through High School. Her mom is abusive because she's "jealous" that the father was more attracted to the daughter, and they all live on welfare. It is literally painful and unbelievably depressing tp watch, which is why everyone pulled away when they said he was laughing at it.
