OOOH, So Many Memories. I Miss My Home State Washington, I Used To Drive this Route A lot. Now I Live In Florida, With Flat Hot Ground. No Beautiful Mountains and Fresh Air. I Miss IT.
Thanks for posting this video. I drove through Snoqualmie Pass (all the way from Dallas TX!) back in 2006 and 2007 while chauffering my son to and from college. It was breathtaking. I wish I lived up there.
I made this drive so many times when I was younger I could tell how far from Seattle we were just by looking at the mountains. Such a beautiful drive...I miss it a lot.
WOW does THIS bring back memories! I lived in Kirkland WA (just east of Seattle) in 1991 and 1992 and drove across the pass on I-90 many times as part of a team of drivers that did endurance testing for the Oldsmobile Achieva versus the Honda Accord & Toyota Camry in the spring of 1992 - look in most any popular magazine from January to June 1993 and see an ad with yours truly and others in it; we did TV commercials too. Thanks again for the memories.
I have a big stack of magazines that the ad appeared in. Check out most of the car magazines, "People", and "Newsweek" just to name a few; our ad is two pages and the background color is a medium blue. The ad began appearing around February and went through about May or June 1993. We even filmed 12 different TV commericals, 30 and 60 seconds in length, as well as a free promotional video that was available in the fall of 1992. My 15 minutes of fame!
I've been looking around for videos like this because I am planning a move from south Arkansas to Seattle. Thanks for sharing. I've been to Seattle a few times but only by plane. The first time I was there I knew I wanted to move up there.
must have been born to be wasted as I love this song and Snoqualmie Pass, beautiful area, great hiking, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, one hour from Seattle.
First of all, this is the most beautifel and awesome I have ever saw. Second, I have lived in Washington State for 15 years ever since my birth. I was born in Richland and lived 10 years in the Tri-Cities and lived 5 years in Colville which is about 70 miles north of Spokane. I have a aunt and uncle that is currently living in Spokane. I know back in 1980 that Mt. St. Helens blew up. Even though the cascades are amazing, there are volcanoes as well.
I remember the road on the other side, West of the pass, in 1994, June, a Friday after ending a course for BOEING people at 5PM I drove to the pass, arrived at 7PM, engaged a trail north of the pass, fast walking. When I reached an iced lake at 8:30 PM I though was time to go back and arrived at car in the night. ! I visited later the falls that were used in Twin Peaks TV series and on Saturday took th eflight back to Paris. So I have very good remembering of my only 3-day in Seattle in my life
Its a blast!...an awesome adrenaline rush!...although the last time was very foggy., but much better driving through this than during bad snow stormy weather., :-) ;-)
Excellent looking video. Beautiful scenery, even though the road wasn't that great. It looked like it was from 1969. Washington state needs to upgrade that road and soon. The cracks and such are showing. Other than all that, it was still a great ride. Thanx for posting this.
And to think back when James Hill & Co. was very daring of building a railroad across these mountains (The Great Northern Railway & Empire Builder), this is a huge mountain range!
Thank you! This was one of my earlier efforts and I wish the picture quality was a bit better. Actually, I also am a RUSH fan and would like to use their music in future videos if copyright allows me to do so. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@CALZOLA Thank you very much! This video was actually shot in Washington State, about 50 miles east of Seattle. I have footage from Montana and will be posting videos later in the summer.
Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. The mountains out that way are something else! I love Florida too, and I visit every year. What part of the state do you reside in?
@interstateruler Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it. I have other Washington footage from my trip which I will try to incorporate into other videos. Thanks again for watching!!
@ChrisK529 I assume this might have been the Quad 4 engine, or a derivative thereof? We had one of these in a 1989 Pontiac Grand Am. It was strong as could be, but not too reliable. What a story about the crash! I'm glad the driver was ok. I would have loved that job considering how much I love to travel. Thanks for the comments!
Time to update this video. Construction now complete, snow shed gone, and a new wildlife overpass is in place. Biggest change are the new lanes going west and east having 3 lanes (I forget the exact number - maybe 4) each. This stretch is much safer now and better stabilized against rock falls.
@Barnyardparker Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was on one of my excursions (from Columbus, Ohio) and I found it equally breathtaking. Thanks for the comment!!
@cochrab Thanks for your reply ! I just meant" Do the Washington State's landscapes look like those of Montana ?". Anxious to see your next videos about Montana !
@ChrisK529 That's really cool, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I'll have to look for some of those vintage ads. So which of the three cars did you prefer after it was all said and done? Thanks again for watching.
@cochrab There was a Quad 4 in my favorite Achieva & the (single) OHC version of that engine in the other one. The testing was done in Seattle, San Francisco & Phoenix; there were 12 drivers in each city. We drove 6 hours on a "city" route (about 200 miles), then two 6 hour shifts on the interstates (about 300 to 350 miles). Every 35,000 miles we met in Sacramento CA to exchange cars. Oh the stories I could tell! One guy drove to Vancouver BC Canada & had to pay a $175 bond to re-enter the US.
@cochrab Truth be told, I really liked the Oldsmobile Achieva with the twin-cam 4 cylinder engine, then it was pretty much a tie among the others (including an Achieva with the single overhead cam 4 cylinder motor). The Accord and the Camry were also 4 cylinder models and really never seemed happy being paired with an automatic transmission until up to highway speeds. BTW, one driver in a Camry crashed on I-90 just east of the pass where the road veers left & totalled the car; he was ok.

One of the coolest videos on the Internet, it takes alot to pull me away from watching RUSH jam.
