I played medeival dynasty a while ago and while the next one looks better, I did feel like it was a very very early access and never went beyond that,.
Wut? Lots of people were saying that swords would be unrealistic? My guess is they're falling for this "um, acktually, swords were really uncommon and only the most wealthy people or nobility had them" thing? Because that's just wrong. I'm pretty obsessed with medieval europe, and swords were hardly rare by any standard. Obviously there's immense variety depending on geography and date, but even in the early medieval period ("dark ages") you didn't have to be part of the nobility to have a sword. By the late medieval period swords are pretty damn affordable for a huge percentage of society.
@@tommeakin1732 apparently there was some law prohibiting sword use or something like that. I don’t know a whole lot about the period. I know about certain important people, battles, locations, but the nuances of law from region to region are not in my wheel house. @@devinmounce1838 There are examples of laws like that in certain places over certain spans of time. Just for an example, it doesn't appear to have been uncommon for blades beyond a certain length (pretty much swords) to be illegal to take into many cities, but fine outside. But the big take away is that there's huge variation across place and time. Some people (not accusing you) make it sound like there were singular laws that applied to the entirety of europe for the entire medieval period lol. Also, it's important to note that for much of the period in most places, if you were conscripted to fight in war, you'd be providing much of your own equipment, so you can imagine that logically prevents weapon ownership being banned
In terms of RPGs, I am very excited to play Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader. It's from Owlcat, the team who made the Pathfinder games. From the trailers and developer updates released so far, they have perfected the atmosphere of 40k. I'm surprised it's taken this long for a big RPG in the setting to release, but damn, I am excited!

A lot of really great looking games coming out! One I would have put on my personal list is Remnant 2. The first Remnant was touted as Dark souls with guns but its so much more than that. an underrated gem in my and many others books.

I'm really looking forward to avowed I've been warning a Skyrim like game for ever and since Elder Scrolls 6 isn't coming anytime soon this is just the next best thing
@@FENIX-527 I didn't say the game would be better. I said it's in the same world as the two Pillars of Eternity games, which means lore tie-ins with those two games, which is a good thing (as the lore and world is excellent). It's not a new IP.
I'm replaying Dragon Age Inquisition again in hopes that Dreadwolf does come out this year. This is a sin for Dragon Age fans, but I've beaten the game several times, but I never finished the Trespasser DLC which feels like it will be the jumping off point for Dreadwolf.
There's a couple games I would have added to the list to replace some of the 5 or so "anticipated to release in 2023". Atelier Ryza 3, and Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie.
Atelier devs seem scared to venture out too far from shore. Long gone the days of 3 characters/times/stories per trilogy. They must've struck gold with Ryza.
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty looks great, the story and character customisation from appearance to combat is mad, I'm loving every gameplay trailer we get look's challenging but highly rewarding the learning curve seems fair. The Nioh, Ninja Gaiden and Sekiro influences certainly come through and the graphics/environments look stunning.
I dunno what to think of it... I'm excited for it and it looks good. But it's cosigned by koiei Tecmo and team ninja have very hit or miss games. Out of all the games on here I argue it DOES look the most interesting but I'm still hesitant to claim that. Every other game on her is mid by comparison tho especially based on their trailers.
I agree, and I really hope the learning curve isn't too overwhelmingly steep. Nioh 1 was complex, but I could wrap my head around it. Nioh 2 just felt inscrutable at times. Way too much going on, and too much of it felt mandatory for survival, unlike in Nioh 1.
@@Magna_Carta5 Lol 🤣😂🤣😭 Wu Kong and Wo Long can understand the confusion but Wu Kong is a MONKE hahahaha. Wu Kong looks very interesting and I'm loving the combat and with it coming out in 2024 (the year of the monkey) it's gonna be Siiiiiick easily my most anticipated. But for now definitely STACKED with the likes of SF6, Wo Long, Redfall, Jedi Survivor, AC Mirage, FFXVI and we've just begun.
I'd be happy if they Remade the Original Dragons Dogma and wrote it better. The only reason I can't get through that game is that horrible dialogue and bland story telling.
I'm looking forward to Owlcat's Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader game, hopefully this year. The alpha was really well developed already and the game has huge potential to be an even deeper RPG experience.
Have you played Medieval Dynasty? I'm betting Sengoku will be way more advanced, but if you like that style of game, MD (fromt the same developer) is well worth a go!
Avowed makes me want to play Pillars... not out of nostalgia but to familiarize myself with the story/world. I just like to see how they handle that good or bad. Should be more skeptical though since we haven't seen much of anything.
I cant believe you actually listed gothic, im waiting for that game from the time it was announced and original game is the best RPG i ever played. Love to see ppl actually listing this!
Great list, something else I wonder if you've all seen upcoming is Project: The Perceiver, one game I'm personally super hyped for. Looks absolutely beautiful and if you enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima you'll probably like the look of this one too.
from what I've seen, the game looks too good to be true... I'm hoping they deliver what they promised cause it reminds me of onimusha a lot (with the whole transformation and stuff):O and that game was fruggin awesome... fingers crossed
Ys X: Nordics well considering it 35th anniversary only makes sense new revamped ys x should be a big celebration in japan. The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie finally getting it Western released this year and many are looking forward to see this arc finally come to an emotional end (crossbell Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure) & Erebonia (trails of cold steel))
I am so, so, so excited for Baldur's Gate 3 to go full access. I've played early access for a while (through several of the patches) and have been pretty impressed with it, especially the depth of the characters we've seen so far. I love that they're not all suck up goodie-goodies and all definitely have ulterior motives they're not revealing just yet. Should make the longer story very interesting as you get deeper. Also, I'm chomping at the bit for DA: Dreadwolf but I want it to be done right so badly. If it means waiting. . .I'm good with that, but damn do I want to know what happens!
“I’m glad they’re not all goodie goodies” well i am not! like that’s what Larian always does. There’s no variety with their moralities: each and every character is a dick. Makes it hard to like the companions. My lack of interest in the current companions is the biggest problem the game has for me
I tried Lies of P at Gamescom. Even though I waited 3+ hours, it was really worth it. Can't wait for this, Disgaea 7 (just a few more days :D ), The last case of Benedict Fox and Ryza 3.
As a fan of Shining Force, I am VERY interested in Octopath Traveller 2! I have really longed for a similar type game for decades and this one looks so damn interesting!!
Another Awesome Video Jake, thanks, I love RPG's, but could you guys please give us any news on Little Devil Inside, do you know if it's still coming out, I'm dying to get some info on it.

Honestly I feel like every year for over the last decade has been really good years for game for games and gaming in general. Oh and how did this list not include the Zelda coming?!? Unless it's being pushed back some more and I missed the news 😕 either way nice list to put in your ever growing famous list Playlist 😆

Lies of P gives me a hint of Dishonored the game, IDK if people might have heard about it, but it was all that my old computer could run back in 2016 :)
I don't play a lot of video games, FromSoft games are like the only major game titles that are ever on my radar (outside of maybe the Hollow Knight sequel) so it's nice to be reminded of that "Lies of P" game again because it's definitely reminiscent of Bloodborne and I need my Dark Souls fix while I wait for FromSoft to create another masterpiece. Hopefully "Lord of the Fallen" is good too because it's going to be awhile before FromSoft hits us with another game.
Greedfall was very refreshing at first because its background is different from the others RPG but the more you play this game , the more you think it's boring and you fell lost in the littles stories if you don't follow a story from the begining to the end.
I loved Greedfall! I had no idea there was a follow-up even in the works. I assumed it wouldn't happen because literally no one has heard of this game.
played the original Gothic 1 and 2, but can't remember if i finished both games, i remember i used to love them and i'm looking forward to play it again, also im waiting for Legacy of Kain as well
Gothic 1 if they just take the Story but basicly make it a New Game with a much bigger World and and all. This would be awesome. Imagine the Mines not just being a small set of Tunnels but being this Multilayered Giant Dungeon that can be Explored etc. This is giving me the Chills xD

But I am looking forward to FF16 because people behind CBU3- YoshiP, Maehiro and Takai along with Dragon Dogma combat director Ryota Suzuki is making this game and they are taking a year to optimize this game as it was already completed in 2022 but they chose to optimize it instead for this year.
I'm still just in disbelief that the Suikoden franchise is getting so much live with spiritual successors and remasters
It's a dream come true!
Can't wait for greedfall 2 loved the first one
Hell yea very impressive for an indie game maker
@@henzoko5946 Not really indie. More like double AA.
A lot of really great looking games coming out! One I would have put on my personal list is Remnant 2. The first Remnant was touted as Dark souls with guns but its so much more than that. an underrated gem in my and many others books.
If they could just make boss fights fun 2 might be good. 1 it was just add spam.
I can safely say that remnant 2 is better than just about every game on this list
I want a Sengoku type game set in medieval Europe 🤩
Greedfall was underrated, loved the theme but do agree there were some issues with the gameplay
Way more excited for Avowed versus Starfield. Hopefully we’ll get some gameplay for both soon
Avowed: Starfield in medieval fantasy but better
@@MrFox5160 that’s the hope… feel like Starfield is going to be pretty empty and bland :(
Hope I’m wrong
@lukeredder I feel like you will be. think about it. bethesda wouldn't let that happen after recent releases being mid (and it's owned by Microsoft)
Can't WAIT to play most of these!!
Almost everything on the list is super exciting!
Hell yeah Gothic remake! Can't wait for that!
Legit want to play like 16 of these, very busy year!
All great games coming out . I just want Onimusha to be re-imagined so I can see Samanosuke fight demons and Oda again. I hope with the current gen they can do something.
yes... YESSSSSSS!!! ABSO-FRUGGIN-LUTELY... we need more nobunaga action!!!
@@OLBICHL I remember the first time I played Onimusha 2. It was 2004 I was 8 and would play it with my 3 siblings and we loved it and when Onimusha 3 came out we asked our parents if they could buy it for us. Definitely an underrated ge series.
people who never had a chance to play classic gothic.. prepare for a feast i cannot wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So excited for star field and lord of p 2023 is going to be great
*Lies of P
yeah that what I meant but I’m also excited for lords of the fallen
They are not looking good.
I didn't know greedfall 2 was coming, I'm excited to try it out. I liked the first one despite its flaws.
I'm really looking forward to avowed I've been warning a Skyrim like game for ever and since Elder Scrolls 6 isn't coming anytime soon this is just the next best thing
👍🏼
It's also in the same game world as both Pillars of Eternity games, which makes it even better.
@@cmdr.jabozerstorer3968 better as in how it's definitely not gonna be better than the Elder Scrolls games
@@FENIX-527 I didn't say the game would be better. I said it's in the same world as the two Pillars of Eternity games, which means lore tie-ins with those two games, which is a good thing (as the lore and world is excellent). It's not a new IP.
@@FENIX-527 it definitely could be. Skyrim is so hilariously overrated lmao
I'm excited for all the souls like games coming out this year.
I was watching for the Wu Kong game to come out and when I seen this game I started to doubt my own memory. Both games are confirmed though, lol.
Really hoping for Dragon’s Dogma 2 this year
I'd be happy if they Remade the Original Dragons Dogma and wrote it better. The only reason I can't get through that game is that horrible dialogue and bland story telling.
@@Yodalemos Don't play Dying Light 2 then, it's fantastic in every way EXCEPT the terrible dialogue/writing lol
I'm looking forward to Owlcat's Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader game, hopefully this year. The alpha was really well developed already and the game has huge potential to be an even deeper RPG experience.
I swear I only watch gameranx at this point
same here
Goat of Gaming culture info station like not even a debate anymore 💯🔥🐐
After playing the Forpsoken demo, it should definitely be a top 5 entry rather than an honorable mention!
I loved the original Greedfall. The lore and the characters especially.
Best year if Starfield, Avowed and Path of Exile 2 launch!
Sengoku Dynasty caught my interest. It looks good, and it looks like it would be right up my alley. I hope it eventually comes to console!
Have you played Medieval Dynasty? I'm betting Sengoku will be way more advanced, but if you like that style of game, MD (fromt the same developer) is well worth a go!
@@Laislebai no I haven't.
Avowed makes me want to play Pillars... not out of nostalgia but to familiarize myself with the story/world. I just like to see how they handle that good or bad. Should be more skeptical though since we haven't seen much of anything.
Pillars is incredible. Extremely lore and reading heavy though, which can be a plus or minus
I love the Pillars games, but I'm keeping my expectations tempered for avowed...hopefully it will be a pleasant surprise
The Final Fantasy Franchise is the most consistently amazing line of games I have ever played, I have high expectations for both Rebirth and XVI
This !!! 😫❤
It's wild how massive it is, with so much quality. Really some of the greatest fantasy in the last few decades
@@CrabSully Exactly, being so consistent to the point I would argue the worse entry, even in their spin-offs, might be average, is damn impressive!
I did a big Pog when PoE2 was mentioned! PoE is my most played game on steam and it's not even close. I'm SOO excited to see Gameranx cover PoE more
Lies of P is without a doubt my most anticipated game, right up there with Remnant 2.
Very excited to get my hands on Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. The graphics and gameplay look great! Eagerly waiting for March 3rd.
Looking forward to Tears Of The Kingdom in May.
Should've been in the top three...
No Trails into Reviere which is by far my most anticipated RPG release of 2023.
can't wait for the modders to get a hold of Starfield. in a few more years it will be an awesome game!
I cant believe you actually listed gothic, im waiting for that game from the time it was announced and original game is the best RPG i ever played. Love to see ppl actually listing this!
Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 have been epic for the past year. Looking forward to ones that can continue this trend.
Great video and a lot of interesting games coming out. Two of them caught my attention, Starfield and Sengoku Dynasty.
@@OLBICHL Same, I love the Onimusha games too so if it's even close to being as good as those were I'll actually be so happy
Really excited for greedfall 2. Greedfall 1 had such a great story. Really underrated.
In the beginning I really liked it too, but halfway in I just wanted it to end.
can't wait for Hogwarts Legacy
Looking forward to Gothic 1 remake. I tried the original game a couple years ago and couldn't deal with the gameplay.... but hope to do this one.

Ys X: Nordics well considering it 35th anniversary only makes sense new revamped ys x should be a big celebration in japan. The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie finally getting it Western released this year and many are looking forward to see this arc finally come to an emotional end (crossbell Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure)
& Erebonia (trails of cold steel))
I gotta play Sea of Stars. That’s nostalgia bait for RPGs of the 90s when I was younger
I never played 1&2 but know of Baldurs gate due to Faerun DnD. Would love to play 3.
You forgot the classics the suikoden 1 & 2 remaster from Konami
Starfield and Hogwarts legacy are the ones that i'm eagerly looking forward to.
How do you feel about hogwarts legacy?
@@dronemachine4694 great game, but pc performance is a let down.
Another Awesome Video Jake, thanks, I love RPG's, but could you guys please give us any news on Little Devil Inside, do you know if it's still coming out, I'm dying to get some info on it.
For me, Hogwarts Legacy is gonna take up pretty much all of my playtime until Starfield releases (which I think will be delayed to later in the year). Then I'll be split on the two until Dreadwolf releases in 2024 my guess. The next 12-24 months are gonna be wonderful for me!
Oh! Can't forget Avowed and Greedfall 2! I really need to finish the first Greedfall, but got distracted by other games.
Im most looking forward to Nightingale, you talked about it in one of your earlier videos and I'm hyped
Honestly I feel like every year for over the last decade has been really good years for game for games and gaming in general. Oh and how did this list not include the Zelda coming?!? Unless it's being pushed back some more and I missed the news 😕 either way nice list to put in your ever growing famous list Playlist 😆
it's not really an RPG, more like an action-adventure
@@Dodaro10 first off awesome profile pic lol and yea but I mean I also think of it as a rpg on top of that. They could also be saving it for other videos since some people get kinda pissy when they mention the same game in multiple lists. I wouldn't mind it being on every top list though but then again botw is my all time favorite game so there's that lol.
Sadly ignored Eiyuden Chronicles which looks amazing. Same for Suikoden 1 and 2 remaster. Both of which are about feb release.
Supposedly, FNAC (very big french retailer) claimed that the physical editions they had for pre-order would be sent in March 9th.
Atomic Heart and Judas are also rpg type games I'm looking forward to. Since they both give off heavy Bioshock vibes
YESSSS, I've only played P5 and I can't WAIT! I'm so happy they finally released Persona 3 and 4 on PS4 so I can play iit!
Here for my grain of salt
🧂
Lies of P gives me a hint of Dishonored the game, IDK if people might have heard about it, but it was all that my old computer could run back in 2016 :)
They should make game about monkey
Just play as Franklin in gta5
D. Luffy
Wow sea of stars, greedfall 2,octopath traveller 2,sacrifire looks good I will try these games when it releases
Oof, mixing CRPGs, ARPGs and JRPGs into one genre. They are very different genres but thanks for the list anyway!
(Oh, they mixed in rogue-likes too)
Man i hope that this year at least we get some infos about Fable. Waiting so long for this 😢
Greedfall was very refreshing at first because its background is different from the others RPG but the more you play this game , the more you think it's boring and you fell lost in the littles stories if you don't follow a story from the begining to the end.
Sea of Stars is my most anticipated for 2023. I've been anticipating it since 2020
Sheesh. Those Persona games are a commitment. Started 3 and 4, never finished them, then started 5, and not even close to finishing 😂
I loved Greedfall! I had no idea there was a follow-up even in the works. I assumed it wouldn't happen because literally no one has heard of this game.
This year will be ruled by Final Fantasy ! 😍❤
played the original Gothic 1 and 2, but can't remember if i finished both games, i remember i used to love them and i'm looking forward to play it again, also im waiting for Legacy of Kain as well
Cyberpunk 2.0 is honestly one of the best games I’ve played in a long time… they have seriously changed this entire game for the better
This was exactly what I really needs, a very informative and helpful video. Thank you for your great work!
Any video plans for the upcoming MMOs?
Gothic 1 if they just take the Story but basicly make it a New Game with a much bigger World and and all. This would be awesome.
Imagine the Mines not just being a small set of Tunnels but being this Multilayered Giant Dungeon that can be Explored etc.
This is giving me the Chills xD
What was the first bonus game called? Sacrafier?
I'm proud to say I've never played a Final Fantasy game ever and nothing about any new release convinces me I've made a bad decision.
