Hi Christine, I am a first time mom from Hong Kong and my 3.5 month son is having the problem of waking up after half an hour in naps during the day. I let him awake for about 1.5 hours and I do the sleep routine, close the curtain, swaddle him, hold him for a few minutes then put him to bed with a pacifier. He can usually fall asleep fast but he will always wake up crying after 30 minutes, I don’t know why he can not go back to sleep even the pacifier is still on.
I will let him cry for a minute before I go comforting him by padding and shushing, but it’d never worked. He will just keep crying and crying. I will eventually have to pick him up and calm him down. He needs his pacifier while I’m holding in order to go back to sleep. I tried to put him back down when he stops crying or he is about to fall asleep, but he would get more angry and I need to comfort him all over again....he ends up having so little sleepy time before next mealtime and it ruins the whole schedule of the day. Sometimes I just hold him to let him sleep, but I would get so frustrated as i can’t do anything else such as pumping milk or going to the bathroom.
I believe it is not because he’s overtired because he wakes up every each nap time no matter how much awake time he has before he goes to sleep.
I am so sorry to bother you with this long message, but I am so desperate and depressed and don’t know what to do with my baby. I start to get really emotional every single day and I cannot see any signs of getting better. I would be very grateful if you could give me some advice on what to do with this situation and hopefully can help me out from this endless nightmare.

Omg same thing with mine! She is 2.5 almost 3 months. I’ve tried everything!!! And all I do is cry because she won’t go back to bed. And then she wants to eat even though she had just eaten 2 hours prior. 😩😩

Wow..I could totally relate with this as I'm going through exactly the same problem as you. My little one just turned 3 months and she does the same. As soon as I lay her flat to try to put her to sleep she instantly starts to cry . Once I finally manage to put her to sleep , she wakes up right after 20 minutes. The strange thing is that she does look sleepy but just don't want to. However if I manage to put her to sleep in my arms then she will sleep way longer than she would in her cot. But like u mentioned about u cannot get anything done that way , it is the same with me. I also really really need to know what can I do to change this. Please do share if you find anything that has helped you or worked for you. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your advice but especially your kind words at the end! It's so easy to feel like you're doing it all wrong when there are so many sources telling you how things *should* be.

My son napped like a champ until about 4months. He's 5 months now. Idk if I can let him cry for 60min😔 which I've seen suggested. right now he gets up at 7. he's stuck in 2-3 30-40 min naps and one 1.5-2 hr nap. Also, if I put him down before 8:30 he wakes up 20- 30 min later crying and has to be soothed. I've let him cry up yo 30 mim and he doesn't go back to sleep.A few times he has done 2 2 hr naps and 1 30 min which is the goal, but for the last couple weeks I can't get him to consistently do the desired schedule. I've tried so many things. I started sleep training around 1.5 months and in a few days he had it down and was sleeping through the night. I already keep him up for 2 hours and sometimes more to b sure he's tired, his room is dark, we have a sound machine, the temperature is regulated. I'm open to ANY suggestions.

Did you mention a link for a wake time window chart? I might be missing where it’s posted. Thanks

How old are you talking about when you say newborn? I read that by 2 months babies can have 2 hours wake time?
