I know the shot you mean. It is a great shot, but I think this one is a lot more difficult. The distance, tight on the cushion, less pre-shot ritual...
I honestly thought my eyes had deceived me the first time I saw Jimmy's shot on the pink. The ball stopped dead, and it was flying. I agree with Kamram, Trump's shot is more difficult. But Jimmy's looked more awesome.
Brilliant shot from Judd, but more significantly, it seemed to 'wake him up' in the match against Barry. He was unstoppable from that shot on.. So not only is it a shot we'll see on highlight reels for years to come, it also was a gamechanger in the match.
Amazing. I loved playing snooker as a teen. Small town Canada. I cannot believe it has gotten to this next to impossible level of skill...especially in the moment. That kid’s cue control and creativity is pretty much mind boggling. I played in Junior with a friend who had that kind of audacity in how he approached the table and his shots. Absolutely fantastic shot from Judd and Steve !! To hit and punch the green one is incredible for me! But you can try it. Please all take cover. 😂😂 Thanks Steve!! 👍😉
First time viewing your channel and I was really impressed as to how you explained that because I'd seen judd trump's shot and basically deemed it supernatural. Thank you!
Liked this, then unliked it, just so I could like it again. A plain ball green from there is a cracking shot, never mind playing the max top spin full pelt shot, great effort.
Yeah Jimmy White's pink was similar but hand on table and less distance. The trick is getting just the right topspin so it nullifies the ball's movement backwards but doesn't make it over-spin forwards. I have never done such a shot.
I think Judd may also - very naughtily! - be playing other people's 'greatest hits' for fun. Not long ago he played the screw/check shot off the long blue, made famous by Alex Higgins in "THAT" break. Shortly before this green, he played a screw from black in and out of baulk with a ton of check to spring a red from the side cush, very similar to a shot that Mark Williams played in a match last year. And this shot with the green is very similar to a pink that Jimmy played against Wille Thorne in an exhibition match. He also played a (much simpler) straight pink and screwed off the angle of the middle pocket for position on the final black, a shot that Steve Davis used to like to play. He might even be taking requests from his pals, who knows!
Well behind with viewing having just got back into the game after 15 years or so. I'm 70 years old and love this game. Love your videos Steve but much prefer the ones with the half-coloured cue ball. So much easier to appreciate what the spin on the the ball is doing. Thanks for your tips. Very useful and I'm already thinking about my next practice session.
That was a fantastic replication of Judd's amazing shot Steve👏👏 I know you said it was'nt exactly like Judd's but he's got unrivalled cue power plus he's playing on the fastest heated cloths. Thats not to say anyone could get close to that shot on those tables it still requires fantastic cueing. Bravo Steve👍👏👏
Great video Steve! Yes its about time that here in Bristol we have a fantastic player in Judd Trump! That was a brilliant attempt Steve!😀 will be coming to see as soon as this covid situation is over. Best wishes to you! Ian
Love that two-colour ball slow mo. It explains it perfectly. Maybe the ball loses about half of its top spin when hitting the cushion? Too much topspin and the cueball will arc back to the baulk cushion. Too little and it will not stop suddenly. But difficult to get too much topspin at that distance, combined with being so close to the cushion because inevitably you need to strike down a little.
Amazing shot but always a bit easier when you are 5-1(11) down and already on a century! The fact he won 6-5 then went on to claim the title again is just as amazing in my book.
When a player is on fire & he is full with confidence , he could force the cueball into anywhere he wants , but only a few players with lots of cue power can do that , it looks like supernatural but it's still a logical thing !
Just watching your explanation, good work, but I will say that when you actually threw yourself into the shot, you did lower the tip of the cue. But I will say this is the kind of shot Jimmy White was playing even against Kirk Stevens
Your videos have really helped me with my game and drills. Can you do more tutorial videos on safety play? Especially those cushion to cushion kinda shots.
You have to attempt these magic moments in sport to achieve them, the pot was the hardest thing about this shot not the reaction of the cue ball. He wasn’t bothered if he had landed were Steve landed or there abouts,it just turned out better than he expected that’s all.
@@Philshki82 I think that comming up with with ideas for shots like that in a split second, because, and that's sad, you wouldn't even thought of doing something like this.
True but if he'd have missed or not landed right we wouldn't be talking about it. Of course we only talk about the ones that come off. But judd plays these kind of shots a lot and 70 percent don't come off. Still getting these type 30 percent is incredible.
You missed out the key to this shot. The butt of Judd's cue was slightly raised (Partly because the white was on the cushion) which increases the amount of top spin/action you can get on the cueball. It's similar to the masse shot in that sense. I'm not saying I could do it though ! Anyway, I've not played in over thirty years and doubt I could even pot the green !
The table Judd is on definitely helps, them ultra fine cloth's will allow the ball to spin easier and therefore stop easier which makes your attempt really impressive. Brilliant work!
I watch most of your vids, and I honestly wondered if you'd try this shot when I seen Judd Trump play it last week...10/10 for a brilliant effort at replicating what has to be the most impressive of all his showboats!! I'd be too worried about ripping the cloth, busting my cue or throwing my shoulder out...good fun to watch and well done.
Barton have you tried Jimmys' masse shot , surely that is the best shot of all time , and the most difficult shot to recreate .Fantastic effort by the way .
I had a quick go and immediately found that I would be digging right down into the cloth and potentially causing damage, so I chickened out ,😅 It's a brilliant shot though like you say. My next video is 5 amazing shots and we look at difficulty and importance of the shot.
I gave it a fair few go's. Only potted the green once and the white would always travel to the top cushion. Don't think I could ever get enough top on it
Using major topspin off the cushion to generate, effectively, draw cue ball action (from behind the ball) to stop the cue. Pros are ridiculously amazing.
Judd Trump is just totally incredible! In many ways he reminds me of Jimmy White in his heyday. The "banana" shots that Jimmy used to play just had people shaking their heads in disbelief. Judd is now doing that to an even greater extent with his "naughty" snooker.
The mechanics are fairly straightforward as you say. It's the execution that's hard. Jimmy White and Alex Higgins played this a lot. A little left hand side holds the ball more. Try it.
Great shot... look for "Jimmy White paranormal pink" I can't find a good quality video of it but Jimmy goes pink to black and the cue ball stops even faster.
Great looking shot, I think other shots he has done have been more impressive with use of side off cushions and distance travelled etc, this is a hit as hard as you can timing shot concentrating on potting the green as hard as possible and alot of natural topspin which stops the white naturally, to have the cue power is very impressive though.
Jimmy was the first player i saw do this shot but that was a total deferent level of difficulty ...well done replicating that 1 - basically top spin reverses into backspin off the cushion ...they had more reactive cloth and steel block cushions so your attempt was every bit as good in my mind ...you could not hit that any better
