- This year's Giro has so far been an absolute cracker. Every stage has had something going on to grab the attention of us fans. It's been where - and I'm going to go out on a limb here - most of the cycling fan's eyeballs have been this past week. If that is the case for you and you're a tech head or even a SRAM fan, you should kick yourself, as over in the Basque Country, at the Women's Itzulia there was new tech galore on show. Both SD Worxs and Canyon-SRAM, on the final stage that started and finished in San Sebastien, were aborad the latest SRAM Red AXS groupset. We've had a few sneak peeks over the past few months, but they've only been quick snaps, nothing too in-depth or revealing. Well, I am happy to report that when wandering the pits on Sunday, the new Red was on show and team staff weren't in any way shooing away avid fans and journalists who'd noticed the bikes adorned with the new groupset.

Thanks for the nice overview 🤘
No wonder they didn't bother waving you off, I couldn't give a fluff about new sram, my eyes are glued on that searing neon orange paintjob! Hell yeah!
Lovely ain't it - Dave
Thank you for the timely overview of this quality groupset. Im curious about the 1X PM combinations and what options we will have in chainring sizing for TT? 54,56,58,60?
It's being launched to the trade tonight in the UK- got colleagues there right now.
For a little detail at the minute 7:26 the bike second bike in the background look to have an other set of discs beak. It’s look way lighter with a lot of cutbacks… 7:25
The design looks fantastic~
The discs are the old ones. There are already videos on youtube of the new discs. Not sure which channel spotted them.
For me I saw it on GCN coverage on Giro New Tech, specifically Lidl Trek wheel.
Oh my Goš look at new Šram
😳😳😳😳
That was magic
May 15, 2 days from writing this, is the supposed release/announce date. 173 grams lighter is rumored among other things.
Actually great if they managed to cut off 173 grams
If true that would be the same date as my bday! Lol
the only question is if now it will be lighter than the latest dura-ace :)
@@noam3d I can promise it'll be more wireless and have more options with the AXS product line. 🙂
Looks good
It does! - dave
They canyon bikes didn't have the new rotors on there. But there are new ones. Also the cassettes milled differently in the rear and looks much different than the current red generation. I saw red a few months back here in Chicago or sram is based. I've heard the buttons allow you to do one-handed shifting for the front derailleur and rear
Love that the hoods look as compact as the last rim brake version after all!
Shoddy, my ears bleed tho every time I hear you say „Shram“ 😅
I aim to please - Dave
Nice
red is crazy expnesive. wonder it will be more crazy expensive thant the old version
what's the new price for dropped chains?
Tomorow is the day! Same chainrings and cassette tho hehe, the only unknown now is its weight
So good to see the return of silver. Silver belongs on premium groups ❤️
Certainly looks a little more flash - Dave
will they do a Red 10-44 cassette? At the moment there isn't a one-piece 10-44, only a Rival/Force which is pinned.
We will find out soon - dave
The pulley looks like the Magic Pulley on the T-type derailleur.. Maybe a nod towards gravel use?
They must know that this is going to be used on loads of gravel bikes, surely?! - dave
@@VeloVeloVeloTV looks like I was wrong on that call...
looks like they have done as little as possible to make a new groupset
It will be released in two days (wednesday).
Groupset is set for release this week - no?
Yes this week.
Is rim brake etap still being manufactured?
Well it was in the "now" previous version, I just had a full groupset delivered hours ago. I love my rim brake bikes for road..gravel and mnt I love the disc.
How did I not know they make a rim AXS, right, just off to make some phone calls before that stuff drys up - Dave
33 times '' I am guessing'' I counted :) but good insight on SRAM
Just happy you watched the vid ;) - dave
Dave please have your own channel!
The previous flat top chain tested pretty much as the slowest. This new one screams disaster.
The hoods look a lot like my L-TWOO er9 hoods, I find them very comfortable
You’re talking fractions of a second. And of course they look like L-TWOO. China doesn’t innovate, they replicate.
The levers look like grx di2, but a bit wider
The only change i want to see is the price coming down
Is it 36T capable???
Fingers crossed - dave
if they can get it as light or lighter than dura ace and make a proper working front mech, we will be in business!
AXS FD are solid. Different story for their mechanical FDs
@@veganpotterthevegan they’re not bad but still have chain drop issues from time to time and def not as quick as Shimano FD. I’m a sram user/fan though lol
@logojones96 Shimano has occasional chain drops too though. We're a long way from anything being absolutely perfect!
@@veganpotterthevegan true true
I wonder if they will be moving to mineral oil for brakes....like I think some of their MTB groups.
I'm hearing no on mineral oil.
Nope, they would have done that with Force first. Hopefully 13sp is next and uses mineral oil
who cares?
I mean come on... UPS not kidding just left my driveway from dropping off a brand new full AXS 2x groupset including crank, cassette... ugg and than this video comes out...I am crushed. Behind before I even begin. ugg.
I hope you got a good deal on it. It's still a super solid groupset. - Dave
Forget the shift quality, the dubious marketing, and the tech company business model. SRAM needs to switch over to mineral oil already.
Yeah they've kind of undermined their own performance argument by using mineral oil in their latest top of the range super powerful MTB brake
I'm surprised SD-Works sponsored by Sram, not Shimano.
There are very few teams who are actually sponsored by Shimano, I think 8 across the women's and men's peloton. The rest buy their equipment or have it supplied by the bike sponsor. - Dave
Sram will release this group in 2025 when everything for everyone will be known 😂
Now I realised why Zwift bumped up their price, not cheap to sponsor a team. 😁
Shramm
Also used by Visma Lease a bike
best dream gruppo. proper wireless.
They probably shooed you away because of the Orbea cap....
you can't come out with a new groupset every single year for a decade and expect consumers to still be interested in buying it
May 15 release
bought the 'old' red chaninset a few weeks ago to upgrade my rival set - good discounts coming through now - not worth replacing the levers but might get the old calipers - so looking forward to the discount effect this new release will have......becasue i know i cannot afford this red groupset...can I? mmmm...
My advice is to buy quickly, SRAM are pretty damn good at not having masses of overstock. They're experts in "just in time" manufacturing - Dave
@@VeloVeloVeloTV guess you knew the embargo/launch dates....😉
Red 10 speed mechanical is stil the better groupset.
I 100% agree. I have it on a CAAD 10 and love it. I'd kill for them to make an updated version. - Dave
The easiest (and yes: cheapest) way to land a scoop is top blatantly ignore the embargo date set by a manufacturer. It also is considered foul play within the ranks of proper journalists. But do as you like.
Thanks for watching and commenting but I politely disagree. I'm well versed in what is classed as breaking and not breaking an embargo. There's a huge difference between reporting on what is on show at a race and releasing official information (I never attended the launch). This race was clearly an opportunity for Sram to tease the launch. They wouldn't have had it on two major teams and the winners bike if this wasn't the case. The race was televised and on several occasions at least in the language I watched it in (french) the commentators spoke of it and the camera crew zoomed in on the components.
I wanna say take my money but maybe my wife will divorce me.😅
SRAM products still appear cheap to me.
Time is now owned by SRAM.....thanks mate, I'll never own another set of Time pedals again.
Still, no way to go with SRAM 😉
SRAM. There is no H in the name. SRAM is an acronym comprising the names of its founders, Scott, Ray, sAM.
If you're going to be a cycling media, at least know what the hell you're talking about.
GRX copy cat from the wide view!
i don't like the shape of the new lever Shimano its way above
