Not the first time, but DEFINITELY an outlier. The songs for the musical were written with for a soprano, so it'll be interesting to see and hear a male actor singing them.
Saw this last night with my bestie and was blown away. Amazing. Words can't describe the magic. It was so good, it got my own creative juices flowing and I stayed up until 3am (on a Sunday night!!) writing the D&D campaign I've been struggling with for months.
I could listen to Nolan Almeida sing this for hours, and his voice too. He may have slurring but it adds a really childish and sweet feel to his Peter Pan.
@@pnklets5287 yesterday was my first time seeing his performance and I absolutely loved it!! What was shocking for me was that I didn't see Nana the dog.
I really like the playwright Larissa FastHorse. She is an excellent writer. But that said...I was dragged to the show. Did I really need to see another version of this show? The songs aren't good. And the Peter Pan actor is too young. But from the second the lights went down...well guys this show is pure magic! So exciting. When they flew through the window. The audience gasped! It's funny. Brilliantly designed and directed. Ms. FastHorse has fixed the problems in the script. And the new plot is so much fun. And I always thought the songs were kind of corny but the new lyrics and arrangements made them so much fun. Oh and the actor who plays is a star! Love that kid! Bring a kid and go see this wonderful new version of Peter Pan!
Then I hope they will do a proshot DVD and/or TV event on this like they did with “Peter Pan Live!” and the Mary Martin and Cathy Rigby versions. Shame they never did that with the Sandy Duncan version.
@cloudambient Yes, but not everyone can afford the theatre and not everyone lives in a place where these things go! It's about making these things accessible. I totally get no releasing pro-shots when shows are still on tour or whatever, but otherwise there's no reason not to!
Of course it had to be politically corrected for anyone who can't understand that a 70-year-old musical based on a 125-year-old play is not likely to be the most socially enlightened by contemporary standards. Which of course brings up the question "Then why do it at all?" Because it's easier to sell a famous title and familiar material than to try to come up with a modern-day equivalent.
Pretty sure it was the republicans who banned drag meaning this show couldn’t tour to some places with a female lead. So it’s nothing about being politically correct.
I went to this show 2 days ago with my high school on a Chicago, IL trip. I'm not huge on theatre but this show was so much fun to watch. I highly recommend it
I wouldn't say there have been mediocre musicals. Many of them have been amazing. But to answer your question, yes it's worth it! The ending was definitely rushed and some things were taken out of it and new things were added, but it's not like that changes the story we all already know.
@@luna-mo3ol You don't think all these movie to musicals are a quick cash grab? Spiderman, Pretty Woman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mrs. Doubtfire, Shrek, Back to the Future?
So they had the original and stuck with it, then strayed off course when turning it from an animated movie to live action, and then into theater, and then another theater by making peter pan a girl, and then it all just went downhill from there, to now THIS where peter pan is a dude again (I think.) and then they made wendy BLACK...okay yeah sure that tracks.
What on earth are you talking about? The "original" you're speaking of is actually NOT the original and shows you have zero knowledge of this story.... the animated Disney film is an adaptation. Peter Pan was ORIGINALLY a stage-play, actually. Get this, produced in 1904! And THEN it was a novel by the same playwright, JM Barrie in 1911. Then it was a Disney movie, then it was a stage musical only a few years later. There have been countless movie and theatre versions since then. If you're gonna bicker at least get your facts straight. What's with your issue of Wendy being black? How are you gonna mention that and not how Peter is Latino in this? Or that John, Michael and the mother (Mary) are Asian? Because now you've really outed yourself as a racist, good job. By the way, these characters can be of varying races because race is not at all central to the story, in any way.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is probably the first production of the musical where Peter was actually played by a boy.
Jack Noseworthy played Peter on Broadway before and in Brazil Peter was also played by a boy, Matheus Ribeiro.
Not the first time, but DEFINITELY an outlier. The songs for the musical were written with for a soprano, so it'll be interesting to see and hear a male actor singing them.

A Peter Pan with newsie New York accent, and a fabulous Captain Hook slaying the stage.
This is the most Broadway version of Peter Pan ever.

the peter pan was actually crutchie in a production of newsies!

This gives me "big budget community theatre" vibes. Also, this musical has been "new" for 70 years.
no lol they changed it. it’s much more modern now and talks about wendy posting a viral dance video and stuff. it was actually very good!
I just saw this production last night in Portland, Oregon and it was fantastic. I hope everyone gets a chance to see this when it comes to your city.

I’m shooketh to see Peter Pan not played by a middle aged woman. This looks great though!
Please tell me if this will get a transfer to Broadway and a proshot, like the Mary Martin and Cathy Rigby versions have gotten.
