Greetings from New,England, Yup picked up an SX 50, so nice I began to collect the 50s series 750 the sx850 and sx950. Do these work on 120 or 240 volts. Yup the Pioneers are great .Wishing you the best for fixing great receivers. Im.pushing a pair of cerwin vega SL-15s.even if tbe 950 is off she still looks great.
Excellent job, Classic audio certainly had much better styling than most of the modern kit. Can't see the majority of modern gear lasting 10 years, never mind 30+ years.
U r SO right bout that.pushbutton tuning does it get any cheaper? All black plastic shit... ratga spen BIG$$ FOR QUALITY.cuz ya not gonna find it too easily anymore.
Beautiful Pioneer! I notice many wire-wrap joins between the boards in this unit. Do you have a good method for dealing with these during repairs? I assume you need to remove the boards to rework them - do you remove the wire-wrap or desolder the pins?
Hi and yes there are many wire wrap connections on old Pioneer and Marantz equipment for example. The idea should always be to do no damage, these joints are best left intact, but they can be carefully unwrapped and re-wrapped with a wire wrapping tool. De/resoldering the pins is another option. I try to retain the original joints wherever possible.
Other similar gear being scrapped is your best bet. I have bags of knobs from junked gear that I keep for customer equipment that comes in for service or repair.
Hi there - I live in USA and have this beautiful receiver. It works 75% in stereo mode but the remaining 25% of the time the left channel cuts out. If I switch to mono it works fine tho. But it sounds better in stereo! Any insight you could share would be hugely appreciated. Thanks
Hi John, thanks for your question, it sounds very much like the usual story of gear like this needing some deep service work at this age. Hopefully you have a good local technician who can assist. There are many aspects to focus on with old equipment like this and it's worth spending some money to have all of that checked out.
@@oggy669 Tha's a shame and I'm sorry to hear that. This means you haven't found the right person though so keep trying. If you lived here in Perth I'd be only too happy to assist.
Funny how things happen, I bought an SX650 at a church thrift shop, it works so great I decided to collect a few, sx750, sx 850 the sx950 and a kenwood kr6600 and kr6030 u can beat these rcvrs. New stuff is push button tuning, no variable capacitor. Others can have new stuff not me.
My SX950 won;t come out of protect mode. I can't zero the output voltages with trim pot VR1 or VR2. I get about 16 volts at VR1 and about 17 volts at VR2. Have you experienced this?
Hi, yes I repair hi-fi equipment for a living so I've seen all sorts of things like this, many times before. If you live near Perth, get in touch and we can book her in. If not, get her to an expert near you. I strongly suggest you don't fiddle with any trimmers, there is a circuit fault and the unit should not be run until that is addressed.
@@LiquidAudio no worries man I totally understand , I love your videos hopefully something sticks to my brain and I'm able to just man up and try to figure it out my self ! Cheers!
Glad you enjoy the videos! Start with the power supply, work up from there. Make sure there are the necessary rails for left and right channels, then you can go forward from that point into the preamp and then the amplifier modules.
It is SO nice to hear you talk about a receiver I have, lots of power features, and Quality.

@@LiquidAudio interesting, thanks!
Any idea on where to find a bass control knob for one of these receivers?

Sadly I’ve already done that and spent $200 and taken it back to him twice with no luck 😢

I have an sx950 that only pays in mono and the right channel doesnt get any sound can you help please :[
I'd be very happy to help, you'd need to bring her to me for inspection and we can go from there. Do you live in or near Perth?
Oh man you're in another continent lol
Yeah that's a bummer, working effectively on electronics means it really has to be hands-on. Sorry I can't help with that!
