I have been using glycolic, lactic, salicylic acids. Also AHA & BHA solutions for s few years, and my skin is good. You just need to know, not to over use it. I keep a journal with products I use daily. To keep track and not to over use products. I also buy “the Ordinary” products and they don’t break the bank and I love them. I’m about to be 43 and no one believes me. People say I look 32 at most. But, ladies, don’t forget to drink water and green tea, leafy greens and berries, dark chocolate 🍫, face yoga and massage. And avoid stress. ❤❤❤ love you all. ❤❤❤

I’m glad I’ve been using glycolic acid since my teens. Not on daily basis, but gradual and increased over the years. Sometimes I take a break, but I go back to it. Gradually, then increase, the same cycle. Also, wearing sunscreen because it could make your skin more sensitive to the sun, and reapply sunscreen every two hours on those sunny/bright days.
Thank you for sharing the proof that glycolic works!

I like them way better and I noticed when I did try to use one of my body lotions the other day, I did not like the way it felt on my skin, it irritated it. It does have a fragrance and I think the more I use natural products, the more my body will reject these other products that contain a scent, like lotions. Those of us with oil & acne prone skin were lucky in a way - exfoliation, mechanically or otherwise, became our best friend to help. This was in the era before acids were widely available. I remember starting to use Origins NightAMins 25 years ago just by the way it made my skin feel and look - now I know its the alpha acids in the product. I still use it, a great moisturiser. Do you recommend this process to help older folks who have senile purpura or super fragile skin thinning that bruises and breaks open with barely a tap? My husband has this issue and he takes no medication of any kind and is very healthy. The poor thing can't even put his hands in his denim pants pockets without coming out bruised and scraped. You'd think his arms would be tough from scar tissue with as many times as his skin has split open but it's still just as fragile. He's really good about moisturizing so I wonder if the glycolic acid could help.

I really do not have deep lines, fine ones on my forehead and a little around my eyes is what I do have. Dr. Rajani, would you recommend two products for me, I was thinking of the glycolic pads or the retinol pads when you get them in again and the moisturizing cream to put on after I use the pads. Is this okay? I do not have any skin issues, no major concerns yet, just maintaining and preventative. I do use products from Hylunia, the hyaluronic acid, Vit C serum, but I think the C serum has changed because it really did work. But now, I am noticing, it is not as strong as it used to be. They are organic products, no fragrance, which I like, as I know, fragrance causes inflammation in the body and that in turn, causes aging, so we are kidding ourselves when we buy products that contain fragrance. Or do you recommend a C serum instead of a glycolic? This is where I get stumped as to what to pick, thanks!

Glycolic acid is not good for skin of colour, unless it’s below 5%..
Mandelic & Lactic, is better suited!

Hi Dr.Rajani! The one confusion I get is the synthetic vitamin E ( not the natural E) In many publications, even I checked in pubmed, indicates some analysis resulted synthetic E increases the cancer risk greatly. Because of this, I don't buy any skin care containing E, which contains always synthetic version. What do you think about synthetic E, please?

You bring up a great point. There are some "links" but in other trials it is protective. It would be a good video for a deep dive. People unfortunately don't sometimes watch the deep dive videos. Attention spans are so short. But at this point I m comfortable using them. If you want an in depth video I ll make one.

@rajanimdskincare Thank you for your reply. It would be great if you made an indept video on vitamin E - synthetic, natural. There might be other people as well with some questions in their mind related to the topic. Thank you.

  • @kevinhanley6462

It only thins the epidermis, so your face will be photosensitive for 7 days and that's why sunscreen is so important.

    Hi Doc!

Also love your channel! Thanks from the mountains in southwest Pennsylvania!

    • @cathyincolorado1432
      @cathyincolorado1432 5 месяцев назад +1

      I've wondered this too.
I "think" moisturization is from the outside in. I.e.the moisturizer we apply on to our body. Hydration is from the inside out, i.e. drinking water.

If inflammation ages you prematurely, then why is microneedling - the whole point of which is to cause inflammation so new collagen can be stimulated - considered anti aging? What about HA fillers in the face? They too cause major inflammatory response. Or sculptra, all of these in theory should do the opposite and age your skin.

I saw somewhere that you cannot use a peptide moisturizer with a glycolic acid...that the glycolic acid will basically make the peptides inactive. Is there any truth to this? Is there a certain moisturizer that we should be using with glycolic acid? I'm new to your channel and have been very happy to go back through older videos and learn about skin care!

I feel like I’m always commenting asking for more video topics 😅, but I’m always just so interested in your input and adore your content! Very curious on your take on what to do if you’re one of the people that retinol/retinoids seemingly doesn’t work for, despite doing everything “right” - using a gradual process, low strength, etc. (causes substantial breakouts: skin barrier disruption - beyond a “purging” phase)
Do you feel it is as simple as some people just don’t tolerate retinol well and have to manage with other tactics/procedures? Or is it the trick of finding and trialing a multitude of retinols until you find one that suits you? 🤍🤍
