Mike, great honest review - seen so many others (runners amongst other disciplines) who were gifted it all of a sudden state its a gopro challenger or 'killer'. Appreciate the honesty as we've come to know and expect from you dont even require to state gifted or not. A real honest YT-er. Good man. Good luck at Houston.
As a trailrunner I do not carry a stick with me all the time. Holding the Action 4 in my hands filming me shows me in focus (focus length officially 40cm, but goes down to nearly 30cm). With the Ace Pro (as you can see in your video), the focus length is officially at 40cm too, but never gets me in focus. It is more around 50-60cm which is quite uncomfortable with its weight holding it on a long arm running through the alps. The flipping screen is annoying flipping up and down on the run, I prefer the Action 4s front display to check if I am on the right position. The Action 4 is lighter and smaller, fits much better into a trail running bag pack. I do not really understand the use case for the freeform mode because I have no advantage in terms of picture size (as it is with the GoPro 8:7 sensor). I can also cut DJIs 4:3 video in post for 16:9 and 9:16 if I need it. I really wanted to like the Ace Pro (I love the X3), but I sent it back. In terms of software, there are enough alternatives to Insta360 app or Studio app, so there is no need to rely on that. I think the Ace Pro is more for Vloggers with a bit of Action but not for people using it mainly for action sports. Oh, did I mention the hassle when mounting it to a chest strap and trying to find the right direction to shoot with the flipped out screen and then flip it in to not break it (e.g. during skitourng or biking)? No fun at all...
Appreciate the video Mike! I bought the GoPro based on your recommendation then I started getting FOMO based on all these other YT videos saying the AcePro was better. Makes me feel a lot better hearing your runners perspective
hi mike, thanks for the great honest review! I found the continue recording feature is really handy when it comes to editing, I'd prefer to save all the clips in one file instead of just going back and forth trying to identify which is the footage I shot each time...but yeah it's a personal preference thing. but to be honest I don't think the stabilization is an issue myself, they look identical, and not sure if you've turned the stab too high when shooting at 4k 120fps? the low light clip at 8:35 is crazy tho, you don't see any noise in the background...wow. Keep up the good work!
You forgot to mention the AcePro has Garmin and AppleWatch integration and you can create great footage with a dashboard layover of your heart rate, speed or a small map. I am really sold on that, to be honest. Otherwise I'd probably get the DJI Action 4.
You can do that with any camera and the Garmin VIRB edit app, and export in 4K. As far as I know if you want the overlay on the ace pro video you can only export it in 1080p. There's a video on youtube that explains it if you're interested, called ''Adding Garmin VIRB Data Overlays to Your Activity Videos''
I would LOVE to see your review for running with an actual 360 camera! Maybe a comparison with a gopro... Idk, some ideas ahahah thanks for a great content!
Thx for your video. I need an action camera for recording running activities. You running test video is pretty much useful for me to make a decision for choosing Insta360 Ace Pro.
An extended video comparing those 3 cameras would be great.. want to know it's pros & cons, features, specific use, what different thing those 3 can do etc 😃
I don’t know how much more detailed I can get without the video getting tediously long. It’s already about 4 minutes too long imo. And in the edit, it just felt like I was bashing the Ace Pro after a while.
Great review. I was so tempted to pick up this camera on black Friday but got the Gopro. So many shill videos the first day it dropped. The weight and lack of replaceable lens cover were the deal breakers. Hopefully Gopro can get their low light capabilities up since that's the only disappointing thing I've found so far. I wonder if all the processing of the image that the insta360 is doing was leading to the loss of pixel data. Pretty big con if you can't reliably zoom in on a 4k image :/ Cheers and stay warm! Also what was the jacket with the glove covers? That sounds amazing since I usually under or over shoot the type of gloves I need
I've tested the Ace Pro for a few months, actually it does a good job overall. The settings are not so complicated, they help save more time when editing. I love the flip screen, which can help with shooting the tricky angles.
It’s not something I use. I make it a point to not-review things I don’t use. I’m sure there are many other reviewers out there who can make such a video.
@@kofuzi ah, thanks. I was still interested in your opinion on the usefulness, layout ease of use etc. I don't watch a lot of reviews anymore so it just would have been nice if it had been covered. But your reaction is very understandable too. I am still considering buying it because it seems useful to me. I like the possibility of looking back at footage remembering how I felt and being able to see the actual stats of that moment. I really hope the stats get Stryd power in the future too. That would be a definite sell to me! Anyway thanks for uploading. Your content is awesome 😎
Commenting as a Premium user for algorithm boost 🙂 I know these videos don’t do well typically but I don’t want you to stop reviewing niche products like this
I own both the gopro 11 and the action 4, but I still decided to purchase the Ace Pro eventually. I predicted that action cameras in the future would have user-friendly features like better low-light performance and the potential for 2x zoom that can help with more b roll. insta360 has done a fantastic job of integrating their product to a new level----I bought the gps remote at the same time, and trust me, once you use their software, you'll never want to go back to DJI and GoPro. In my opinion, all the ace pro's specs are on par with the other two, but it offers more benefits and possibilities on top of what a regular action camera can give to you. Thanks for the great review!
Yup, this camera is definitely not for beginners who isn’t bothered to fiddle with the settings 🤭 Every camera has it’s learning curve and if you are too used to a certain brand, then you well stucked with it no matter how crappy or outdated it’s technology is 🤷🏻♂️
Hmmm! I use the ace pro all the time and I don’t have any instances of pausing using quick capture. However, if you hold the button you have an option to delete the shot. I own both this camera and a GoPro myself, and as a cyclist, stand up paddle boarder and general use, the ace pro is now my go to camera. It appears that your use case is much different and that’s okay but the camera is great IMO. THANK YOU for the review.
running presents some slightly different pain points in using the camera. I think it could be quite useful for other use cases, like SUP and cycling. the high frame rate needs would be quite different.
I have no idea. I don't track it at that level. collectively, I couldn't buy a shoe at the end of the month. buy a product however you want. you don't have to use my links. I'm pretty sure I literally wrote that in the description.
To my eye, GoPro delivers the best footage…in bright daylight. Race mornings start in the dark. The Ace Pro wins in low light, provided that you switch modes to low frame rates - as you called out. Houston Half is a great example where the morning footage didn’t hold up. Can’t carry two cameras and the Ace Pro is kinda awkward to run and film with. Could the Action 4 be a compromise between low and day light for Runners Weekends?

Thank you for not taking a sponsorship, buying these yourself, and giving the honest truth... good *and* bad. it really sets you apart.
I think there’s a more nuanced conversation required here, but I get what you’re saying

@@dinbali Yep, thanks. I've realized the Virb is a possible alternative but I've bought the AcePro anyway.
I thought you were setting up for a monster dunk at the end!😂
The lay-up was solid though, hehe 🙌🏽
I usually shoot in 4K 30, no problem for me and you should try the clarity zoom feature. You may need to switch to high stabilization when in 4K 120.

Any plans for a Kofuzi shakeout run in Houston this weekend?
This is so helpful, gonna get an Ace pro for the agility. Keep up the great work!
If it advertises AI as a feature, it means they can charge more for it.
As a consumer, AI means as much to me as Pro
As a social media person, AI means as much to me as algorithm
You can actually get the GoPro 12 for $300 with the subscription service.

The problem with this being a good vlogging camera is that your face is not sharp. The image quality further back appears decent.
