- Numbness of the hands is a very common problem that patients have.
Numbness of the hands may be due to number of causes. The 10 main causes of numbness in hands are as follows
1) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Cubital tunnel Syndrome
2) Vitamain B12 Cyanocobalamin Deficiency
3) Diabetes and Hypothyroidism
4) Prolapsed Cervical Disc
5) Cervical Spondylosis
6) Medications
7) Raynauds Phenomenon
8) Alchohol
9) Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
10) Herpetic Infection

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most common treatable cause of Numbness in the hand. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is due to compression of median nerve due to transverse carpal ligament. A very simple treatment of this is to do a Carpal Tunnel release Surgery.
Vitamin B12 is a nerve tonic. It is a water soluble vitamin which is present more in animal food sources. Its scientific name is cyanocobalamin. It improves nerve conduction and gives nutrition to the nerves. Deficiency of the same can lead to a Neuropathy. This problem is more seen in vegetarian population speciffically vegans ( Those who don't even take milk products)

Thank-you Doctor, this has been my problem for some time now for almost 3 years now. I use to have it on both hands but now it's worse on my left hand. I cry every early hours of mornings. The numbness now comes with pain and burning sensation on my hands, knuckles and elbow even my shoulder blade. Trying to massage is making it worse. During the day is a bit ok but early hours of the morning is hell. I got all my answers from you as you have explained clearly and made me understand. I hope I recover fully. Thanks alot Doc.

The last 3 days My right hand has been swollen & numb (mostly just my pinky to index finger) & Now feels as though it's moved slightly up my into my forearm..& Also the same day this started happening - My right ankle has been swollen & The bottom of my foot slightly numb ( aside from my heel, I can feel everything fine in the heel of my foot) . No pain though, just slight discomfort/odd feeling from the swelling.
I've also developed some varicose veins in the last 8 months out of nowhere as well :/ . Never had any problems before this.

Thank u so much. After I got chickenguniya I have swelling in legs n hands n numbness at night. Mujhe chickenguniya hua tha uske baad se mujhe raat ko hath sujan aa jati hai n numbhojata hai bar baar . Neend se uth k daba na padta hai. Me 8 saal se diabetic hu. Mere diabetic k doctor ko bi aat ki but unhone kaha ye normal hai. But I m worried. Kyu ki ye normal lag nahi raha mujhe.physio therapy k doc ko bi dikhaya unhone sirf aram karne bola even exe bi nahi karna hai 6 month ye kaha kyu ki chickenguniya me ye 3 saal tak jyada se jyada rahega fir khud thik ho jayega aisa kaha. I have nerve damage in my hands while having test at the hospital a proffesor was visiting and over heard my consultant talking to other doctors after dismmisming carpol tunnel he suggested an mri scan that discovered compression on my spine due to colllapsing of the spinal collumn it was stalled by having a cage built aroud my spine from sencond to six vertabrea

Hi Dr, I am observing that i DO NOT feel any sensation or tingling in my hand at night when I sleep. It feels like paralysis as if my hand doesn’t exist, then i have to move it by my other hand and it feels alive. I sleep on my stomach most of the times.
Its scary to think, why could it be?

Hello sir my husband is getting cramps on his left side full hand starting frm his neck....pl suggest wat medications cud b done.
Hi. Numbness, tingling and burning sensation in left hand and left feet.. Am 34yr old female.. Before 7 months I tested and it showed diabetes.. Rather than going to doctor I thought of taking lifestyle changes going to gym, zumba, intermittent fasting from evening 4 clock to next day morning 8 clock and walk for atleast 2hrs.. Taking 500 calories per day.. From 70 kgs am now 50 kgs weight.. Its been 7 months now..
But still those numbness and tingling is always there.. Sometimes its there but sometimes not.. And again I had checkup yesterday.. Before fasting no sugar but after breakfast it showing 162.. And ECG it showing sinus bradycardia 53 bpm..
Am very much worried now..
