    This food is so amazing for dogs. It makes such a difference in their behavior, health, coats and so on. They don't touch any other food now. All the neighbors' dogs come to visit and eat now too. It's very very worth it. I mix the dry with the freeze dried and also with Stella and Chewy's freeze dried. Awesome awesome awesome! I spend too much on my dogs but I love them terribly much.

    I'll think I'm going to start eating my dog's food also.
    1. More expensive then what I'm eating
    2. Better ingredients then what I'm eating
    3. Probably loose som weight also eating this stuff...
    My dog blames her allergies for needing this gourmet food. But hey I'm a good owner LOL

    Our dogs have exclusively been on Orijen and more recently Acana for over eight years. Our vets have always complimented the muscle tone on the dogs who not only have great quality diets because of this kibble, but also happily exercise daily. Also love the variety of foods both by nutritional content and ingredient use. Two paws up!

    My cat eats Acana Grasslands cat food and he absolutely loves it! He used to be a very fussy eater when it came to his dry food when he was with his previous owner, but I changed to Acana soon after I got him and it has been several years now and he's showing no signs of getting tired of his food! If that doesn't speak for the quality I don't know what will. When I get dogs I will definitely be feeding them Acana :)

    10/24/18.....Nice video showing Canada's Champion Pet Foods from pasture & ocean/lakes to the plant that mfgs Orijen pet foods.
    Interesting to see the ingredients are based on biological food that pets would eat out in nature---but also good enough for humans to eat.
    I just found some YT pet food videos last night/this morning, so I've been watching/learning so much & I've decided to change from my supposedly "premium" kibble brand to "biological" based dry dog food---most prob Orijen.
    I know my BF/GA rescue companion will enjoy all the meats
    & benefit greatly from the "free range"/"natural"/"grain free" as well as the great combination of all these ingredients.
    THANKS for a good video as well as making me aware of mfg & all the work/time/energy/human concern that goes into Champion
    pet food industry.
    Quality + taste is my main concern.

    Sounds like I should start eating THIS brand of dog food myself!!! This is better than whatever I eat on a regular basis!!! My cats are doing fantastic too. The older one only ate regular kibble she is not doing well - she is So overweight. But the other cats that I raised with home cooked food with chicken liver, some fish and LOTS AND LOTS of veggies- they eat kible too- they are doing fantastic. The fur is so shiny they are black but look silver colored - bc they shine so much. And they so sleek and muscular, really pretty cats.

    Been feeding all my working Dutch/Malinois Orijen/Acana for 2yrs, I prefer the Red Regional and Ranchlands Acana. The only issue I have had is from all the fish in some of the other flavors, my dogs lose their hair. I couldn't figure out what was causing this issue then I was talking with some of the Dutch breeders in Holland and they told me about the fish. Since I switched to the red meat flavors it has stopped. I also mix in raw tripe about once a week and I have been slowing using raw red meats mixed in. I believe I will go completely raw soon as the prices are cheaper now for raw, it just took me awhile to find good quality raw meats. Also the Acana Ranchlands is just a few dollars cheaper then Orijen's Red Regional when it has a 60/40 and Red Regional is 75/25 what is the deal on this Champion Foods ?

    I love Orijen! It sucks though because it is getting harder to find around here, apparently they have had such a huge uptick in demand they are having a difficult time making enough. This is understandable when you see that they use only local farms and not factory farms, they can only get so much meat. I hope they find more suppliers, because my cats do so well on it and I just love knowing I am feeding them the best I can right now. Someday it will be raw, until then, Orijen!

      My sister works at a "high end" pet store for rich slobs, and all they sell is quality stuff. If you cant afford Orijen, check out another company called Fromm (yes two mm's). Its a small mom n pop business from what I understand, but their food is very good quality at an affordable price.

    • @LumenEtTempus
      @LumenEtTempus 7 лет назад

      One should never mix raw food be it BARF or other regimen with kibble or any kind of cooked/processed foods... You are either dedicated to one or the other. Won't be doing your dog any favors.

    • @RetroRevv
      @RetroRevv 7 лет назад +2

      LumenEtTempus that's absurd and you have no reasons behind saying that. Don't just say random stuff that is false. There's no rules to feed strictly one thing. You obviously don't know the quality of orijen.

    • @LumenEtTempus
      @LumenEtTempus 7 лет назад

      But there is, the nutrient utilization time and process from kibble and raw is very different one from another. Only way you are not harming your dog if mixing the two is feeding raw and kibble enough hours apart. Raw and barf usually takes 4 to 6ish hours to digest and kibble or cooked takes longer to digest be it Orijen/Acana or any other brand it's the simple truth behind the stomach of our dogs.
      One and only way I'd give my dogs a mixed diet is RAW in the morning and KIBBLE in the evening with enough spacing in between to not cause GI confusion or problems...
      I have 4 dog lives worth of experience with feeding raw, homecooked and commercial blends and opt for raw/barf for the growth part of their lives and high quality kibble for adulthood - when they become old and frail I approach the diet in a different way customized to the genetic or general health issues the dogs might get in their old age.

    I only recomend feeding Acana Regionals Grain Free if you are going to feed Acana, as it isn't made with pea fiber. I would recommend staying away from the other types of Acana. Orijen is a good food to feed. Amicus is another great dog food. So, I would recommend Acana Regionals Grain Free, Amicus or Orijen.

    So unfortunate that they sold to Mars Inc. Even since they were introduced to big retailer such as Petco and Chewy, the volume of sales must've increased and as a result, manufacture and yield need to increase. This inevitably lead to quality decline. And now that they're sold to Champion, who knows what kind of cost savings and quality reductions will be introduced. What about u guys moving your production plant to US during late 2016. I heard a lot of things changed since . And people who were loyal to Acana / Orijen noticed quality dropped, n pets r having health issues now.
    If you hv changed your plant in US, what actually changed in your food ??? Can u pls update ??

      I heard about this too but I've been assured by the people at my local pet store in Fort Saskatchewan (30 mins from Morinville) who have a close relationship with the manufacturers in Morinville that the changes occurred only in the plants in the US. In Morinville they are still committed to quality product. I would talk to your local pet store to figure out where they getting their food from. I still give my Yorkie Acana and he still loves it and is perfectly healthy.

    I also prefer raw feeding but my dog had a disese and if she eat a lot of fat she can bli sick again. And it's a lot of fat in the most raw food. So I am going to start giving her acana because I think it's one of the best dry foods (and I give her raw meat sometimes). And of course their food is not fresh/raw but it is made out of fresh raw products.

    I think its kinda funny that there are exactly 0 cats in this video. I also wonder why, if cats are 100% carnivorus, there are so many vegetables and herbs in Orijen pet food. Thats not biologically appropriate. My cat wouldn't hunt for beans in the wild or eat peppermint... Why don't they explain this?

    • @zareth-shahar
      @zareth-shahar 10 лет назад +1

      The truth is, kibble is not biologically appropriate food. They can make it seem like it with putting good ingredients in it, but nothing will ever be as biologically "appropriate" or bioavailable as fresh, raw meat and herbs/grasses along the way. You're right cats, are 100% carnivorous (obligate carnivores) because they are able to leave strictly off of flesh. They would eat the stomach contents of a herbivore, for example, and be fine. That said, certain ingredients may be added for extra nutrients that may or may not be needed. My cat eats Acana but am thinking of switching her to something else now that I know Acana and Orijen are made by Champion Pet Foods in Morinville. *puke* That town smells like death.

    • @diamond852
      @diamond852 10 лет назад +2

      I think the fact that companion pets live longer than wild dogs cats or wolves speaks to the appropriateness of how we feed them. The last time I checked (which was a while back), Orijen for dogs and cats was 80:20, 80 being meat and 20 being veggies and all. This is OK IMO.
      I don't work for Orijen nor do I have any affiliation with it. I don't even feed Orijen to my dog. Although I wish I could.

    • @MissStaleyHere
      @MissStaleyHere 10 лет назад +1

      There are several reasons why there's vegetables n herbs in the food. First off, all producers use it. Without it, the food wouldn't be pebbles but just mush (they need the starch to keep the pebbles intact). Also, certain greens is good for the stomach system (it's food for the good bacterias, making less ground for bad bacterias). Orijen dosen't use corn nor rice like most other dog and cat food companies use. Corn is not really digestive, and the cheaper the product, more corn is in it to save money. And so on (whiskas is an abomination, they put five time the amount of salt in cat food than the cat needs, shortening it's life with upto three years). Look up dog and cat nutrition before being all sassy.

The only reason (some) vets and pet nutritionists that say that dogs are omnivores are either ignorant or bought and paid for by the dog food companies. Captive wolves are not fed an omnivore diet, they are fed raw meat and bones.

    They keep repeating the word "fresh" but the funny thing is that nothing in their product is actually fresh. Heat processing basically destroys what is healthy in fresh food. How can food that could be kept outside of the fridge without getting spoiled be considered fresh.
    And by the way, there is no such thing as biologically appropriate kibble food. Animals cannot make kibbles in the wild. Just something to think about, i personally prefer raw feeding.

      As a raw feeder and former orijen customer this comment is completely ignorant. First of all- a raw diet is NOT for everyone or for every dog. And to say that it is is moronic. A raw diet takes a considerable amount of time and dedication. That being said for certain people time, space, and resources are limited thus making a raw diet out of the question. Also certain dogs do NOT do well on a raw diet. They either don't like it, or it makes them ill etc. Switching from kibble to raw was a HUGE ordeal for my household. I breed Great Danes which I have 4 of and I also have an order Collie and a Chihuahua. I had to go out and buy a huge chest freezer, meat grinder, scale, knife, gloves, and so much other stuff. The intial investment was over $300. On top of that my dogs go through approximately 763lbs of food every 4 weeks when I don't have puppies on the ground. . It takes me over an hour to prepare food for everyone and then another hour of clean up. It's time consuming and expensive, though for me personally I have access to a raw dog food company with amazing prices so I actually save over $1,200 a month feeding raw. On kibble I bought a $90 bag every other day.
      Regardless for certain people where low meat price access is limited feeding raw may be to expensive one way or another.
      Secondly-
      Orijen is far from "garbage." Orijen is a high quality kibble that I recommend regularly for people who cannot or aren't comfortable doing a raw diet for one reason or another. My dog who had dietary issues for the first 8 months of his life was doing so poorly. We could NOT get the liquid poop to stop. For 8 months we fought it. I had tried pretty much everything under the sun. Even raw with a higher bone ratio but he still couldn't get it under control. Finally I bought a small bag of regional red orijen. And let me tell you a fucking thing. He had his first solid bowel movement ever. And for that he stayed on the food for 2 years and thrived. After loosing our two Golden retrievers to the same cancer a month apart I decided to switch to raw. And we haven't looked back. My liquid poop dogs bowels had healed and accepted the change with little issue.
      However raw isn't a very high calorie diet, so my male dane struggles to eat enough to get the high calorie content he needs.
      Orijen is a quality dry dog food and no owner should be shamed for dishing out $90 a bag on this stuff. Very different from royal Canine or Hills diets etc. We call raw feeders who assume anything that isn't raw is bad "raw monsters" and they are the ones that make people not open to the change. You attract more flys with honey than vinegar.

      Ellen Settlemoir I'm sorry you lost your dogs. If you believe that dog kibble is okay than that's fine with me. My thing on kibble is that they cook it at high temperature to kill the vitamins in it, then try to add fake vitamins. Dog kibble has fillers in it like potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes. All those carbs aren't good for dogs.

      +Learning First of all, at least she's trying to give her dogs high-quality food. If she gives her dog away, the new owners might not even do that. Second of all, raw food isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of time, it might make roommates uncomfortable, and if you live outside the United States (esp in the Caribbean) getting all the stuff you need (a grinder, a freezer, etc.) can be three or even five times more expensive than in the States. Then there are the water shortages. I can barely get enough water to do my own dishes and laundry, far less to clean out a meat grinder.
