Fifteen years on there are no gangs in New Zealand. The sole gangs which were here and now decreasing due to proliferation of the dairy industry are shearing gangs. Every other group is a highly organised club with rules, kinship bonds, family members, children, aunts, uncles and grandchildren. The genesis of clubs in New Zealand is well researched. Our Pacific Atoll is merely reaping the benefits of decades of consciously planned policies created to destroy families/communities, marginalise and abrogate basic human rights. Club members in this country are parents, partners, commuity advocates and fundamentally leaders. Patches or no patches are not the issue. Successive governments have locked up leadership. Their investment has now produced present and future dividends. Maoris need to grow up, and stand on their hind feet
you cannot ban patches, it's a ban on free speech, freedom of expression etc etc. This is just like big pharma treating the symptoms rather than the cause. What is the cause of people wanting to form sub societal groups?
Not wanting to work or contribute towards society then wanting society to feed and house them
HAHA We know what a gang is so stop yr crying, weve all had enough and gangs can either abide by the law or pay the price.
Until they start moving into your neighbourhood /street then you may rethink
Law & Order is a guideline.
I cannot wait to see the creativity on rebranding with everyone on the target list.
This is like the NZ Flag referendum saga LOL.
LOL the patch loses it credibility so can't wait to see the rebrand and it's failure - The Law is the Law, not a guideline lol
The Banks think differently to you. The Banks use the Law as a regulation guideline.
Rebranding is a natural evolution in business. Apple, Google, Microsoft all rebrand often to cater to their evolving audience. The smart Gangs will follow suit, the not so smart ones fade out (called a vacuum) and new gangs appear.
@@MrStealYaWifey Only the cartels have the power/money to rebrand/hide asset/liquide asset - NZ gangs are the bottom of the food chain, even the Aussie 501s know this hence their takeover attempt ... Gangs will always be in society but yr conflating NZ gangs with criminal empires and they are simply not the same thing and never will be allowed to be.
Can’t see this legislation having much effect whatsoever. Weasel words.
read the paper written by Wanganui Police about the gang patch ban there and it's effects, this shit works

what about tattoos on the face, back, arms, that many mob members have. Also, in an area I live in many of the mobsters have started to buy colour coded vehicles and bikes...Good luck making any difference...
Stop being petty Sean.
This entire mode of thinking is inexcusably autocratic. As a busker I'm faced with all manner of people and situations. Never once has anyone with a gang jacket ever given me a sense of menace or intimidation. Quite the opposite. They've all been courteous and generous. When interacting I find a common humanity and greater understanding of the human condition. Rather than a clamping down on the symbolism why isnt the government focus on how disenfranchisement leads people to making this choice to begin with? Gang members are formed not born. It seems like a dog and pony political show. They're picking low hanging fruit to send a message to the rest of us. At a given point those engaging in the enforcement of over reactive autocrats will have YOU in their crosshairs. Then when cattle car doors slam shut on you it will be far, far too late.
Well said. preventing others joining gangs is the way, but this lot are really going for the easy option that has never worked before.
Just because you dont get intimidated doesn't no one else doesn't, it happens every day in public and crying about upbringing wont change the fact gangs are threatening, intimating and assaulting law abiding members of our society ... It stops here and now and you dont like it tough, because we the majority have had enough.
That's right it's our fault for disenfranchising the poor gang members. Their behavior has nothing to do with it.

There's no such thing as an innocent patched gang member.
@samgraham8430 yea, if the crap a mass shooter publishes can be deemed to be objectionable material and anyone possessing such publication can be charged, then so can gang members with their patches... hell, the last government put journalists in prison for posting a link to a site that had a link to said objectionable material on it....
An absolute breach of Human Rights!
