    Shipping labels and receipts are usually heat transfer paper. You could just run a lighter or an iron on them and they turn all black. Best method for clearing info from them

      Sometimes I find that Sharpies's have the same problem as this thing when the ink drys. I find that a good old ball point pen works great because it will also damage the surface on the shipping label and really make it hard to read.

  • @OS10100
    @OS10100 Год назад +29

    Try holding it horizontal to the paper instead of at an angle when applying it. Also, for the receipt. I use to get rid of private info such as CC numbers etc by just holding a lighter under 5 inches under them. They are printed on thermal paper. It will permanently make the receipt unreadable. On a side note, these products probably bring more attention to the blocked out part since anyone who comes around them might be curious as to what you were trying to hide. LMAO. Just use a crosscut shredder. It's cheaper and works 100%.

    I have a letter opener like yours that I rec'd w/some promo crap on it. I was able to take the cover off and replaced their promo with my son's kindergarten school picture. That might not seem important, but it is. It has been used daily (both at work & at home) for a lot of mail & it's still going. My son is now 32½ years old. So for 27 years its been working great! I've never needed to sharpen it or try to replace the blade. As for getting rid of personal info, I'll stick to my good ole cross cut shredder 🙂. Thanks for the review!

    I wonder what would happen if you used a different type of ink? Permanent liquid inks are used to refill things like fountain pens, stamp pads and color copiers. The refills usually come in a bottle, with an injector syringe that would most likely work with the Blade Blocker. The concept is a good one. It's a shame the ink is the problem.

    I shred stuff, put that paper or card into buckets of water to soak, the resulting pulpy mush is then formed into bricks and left to dry so I can use them in either my stove or fireplace.
    Ink as a coverup relies on the assumption that the inks have the same recipe, different companies have different black ink. Then of course there the thermal paper like receipts which are probably better popped into a warm oven or wafted with a hairdryer so the whole thing darkens.

    @12:15 You can just run a hot iron over it (or any hot surface will do) it's thermal paper.... it blackens when it gets hot, this is what it's designed for....... also paper that is print with a laser printer will always be readable because the ink (toner) is fused on top of the paper even when it's inked over you will always see the letters shine through when light deflects on it...... the address label on the box is probably printed with thermal transfer this also leaves a plastic like inprint behind much like the laser printer...

    I don't understand why they put a pattern on the stamp at all. The most efficient way to make sure you're making the text unreadable is to make sure it's *all* black. Putting a pattern on it with blank space makes no sense.

    I mean... Can't a Sharpie do the same thing?

    What the heck did you use to open up that packaging?

    I just use a regular sharpie marker to black out my name, address and account numbers etc. If it's really sensitive information, i shred it well with my scissors. I don't normally have enough private documents to destroy. If I did, I'd just buy a paper shredder.
    At work, I use a long, metal letter opener, and a box cutter. No need for a special, expensive tool. At home, i don't open enough mail to warrant any special tool...a kitchen knife or sissirs works a charm.

    I still don't understand why people who are worried enough to buy a product like this won't just buy a shredder. I have a $60 micro cut shredder that has lasted me 8 years now and it goes through credit cards and discs as well.

    I see all this work, and all i can think is if i needed to get rid of sensitive info I'd just take it out back and burn it.

    I have several ink rollers to use on envelopes to send back the constant junk mail I get. Alcohol markers get expensive. They were great on typed envelopes. But the ones with the windows, not do much. You could see our address. You have to completely blacken out the address and the auto stamp under it. Or it just get returned to you. I get over 30 charities wanting money. I fill up two garbage bags weekly from junk mail. I've called, I've listed, done everything I possibly can. Ain't working. So now I just send it back. I figure after a while they might stop wasting their time and money.

    My neighbor has one, and typically goes over the text several times, back and forth.

    I think I'll just stick to ripping important information up if I have to and a knife for packages and envelopes 👍
