One of the best videos i found so far! Amazing work!
Well done presentation. Some easy to remember acronyms that can help make sure the extinguisher is the correct type is as follows: A = Ashes. B = Barrels. C = Circuits. D = Dynamite. K = Kitchen. In a commercial establishment a workplace hazard assessment likely has been already done and periodic audits may be required by law in some areas. For example in a welding and fabrication shop that works with magnesium, titanium and similar exotic metals will likely have a class D extinguisher in addition to the most commonly seen ABC dry chemical type on hand. The class D extinguisher is typically yellow while the ABC type is usually red. Likewise if you are a serious home cook and do a lot of deep frying a class K in addition to an ABC extinguisher is a wise investment for maximum fire safety and is typically required by law in commercial kitchens.
A fires leave Ashes, B fires are items stored in Barrels, C fires are things that have Circuits. Nothing crafty for D type fires and K, of course is for Kitchen. That's been a good way for me to train so someone might remember.
Good one! I hadn’t heard that before.
I've also heard B fires as Liquids that Burn or Fires that produce Black smoke since they are typically petroleum based.
D for Dynamite!!!!
A leaves an ash. B boils or bubbles. C conducts electricity or gives you a Charge.
Thanks for the awareness 🙏 People must remember that the "1st" protocol is to call the fire department whilst they on the way you can try fight the fire and assit with evacuation if it's safe to do so.
Thank you for this knowledge
Thank you! I was always a bit anxious in fire drills or when I had a bit of time and noticed a fire extinguisher, as I felt I did not have sufficient knowledge on how to use it, and this anxiety stemmed from when I was away in school years ago and a fire broke out in our home. At that time the fire extinguisher did not work and my sister used my dad's leather coat to put an end to the flames, burning her hands in the process with minor burns along her arms and elbow. She is fine nowadays and is playing all instruments, but things could of become worse at any time. Your video is very well done and easy to understand, and now in my hallway there is a new and yearly verified extinguisher. Thank you.
Did it not work because it was the wrong suppression agent? Or because it mechanically failed?
Absolutely fantastic information
Thanks for the awareness 🙏
It is very important to know the different types of fire extinguishers and which type of fire it should be used. Your explanation is very clear and easy to understand. Thank you very much! =)

Useful. I think it's important to know when *not* to try fighting the fire. One of the top videos when you search is a news segment showing a whole couch completely ablaze - I think if I saw that I'd grab everyone I could and leave no way I can put that out myself
😬😮 Yeah, good point! You’d need a pretty big fire extinguisher for that!
@@AllySafety The Amerex 240, 2.5 gallons of pressurized water, was demonstrated as able to extinguish a couch fire with relative ease. Even moreso with a couple teaspoon of dish soap added to the mix.
Excellent

That 30 seconds are more likely to be 10-12 seconds. No ordinary fire extinguisher can last for 30 seconds when in operation
A 30 second runtime is for the big 20 pound models.

Hi. Are all fire extinguishers in a glass case use scored plexi glass and breaks cleanly. Class A B is used for gas or chemical fires?
Very good presentation. Thank you for sharing.
So nice of you! Thank you.
though I will say powder may remove oxygen but I think the primary effect is to interupt the flaming process ( chain reaction) 30 seconds I think 10 seconds is more likely

@@AllySafety It looks as though it's $350 on the website. Is that accurate? Can I use it for no charge?
Very useful video. Question: In what Class are Lithium Ion Batteries?
according to google class b, use dry chemical fire extinguisher
I got question for clas (A) we hava gauge to Exp.but for clas(c) how we know
Thank you, that was very good material. I have a question: what happens if you use an ABC Extinguisher on a greasy kitchen fire? I am guessing most peoples homes don't have multiple classifications of Fire Extinguishers "at the ready". You use what you got. I am guessing this scenario comes up a lot. Thanks
Perhaps ask it on a subreddit on Reddit itself. Its the best forum platform to get this sort of question quickly answered. I hope this helps!
A standard ABC extinguisher will work for a fire that typically happens at home. That would be covered under the "B" rating of the extinguisher. The K class is definitely a better option and is what is required in a commercial kitchen however the size of a fire you are going to have at home is typically small enough that if you get an ABC and use it fast enough it will work fine. You will definitely have some annoying clean up as it is a super fine powder but it's better than your home burning down.
Pretty sure they have now incorporated "Reaction" as part of the Triangle

It's always important to know the P.A.S.S Technique, Pull, aim, squeeze, and sweep.
Can you explain the phenomenon of Boil over , UVCE, ....ect
I’ll add it to the list of video ideas. 🙂
Had a fire, and properly used the correct class of the portable fire extinguisher. The extinguisher last about 12 seconds and not 30 seconds as stated on the video. The video is excellent and clearly communicates the three main points. However, I do believe the time of how long the extinguisher will last needs to be updated or edited by giving a range of time and not just saying 30 seconds.
Wow. Good for you! Also, good to know about the fire extinguisher too. Do you know what size it was?

You're best girl
Fire Extinguisher Tech here, You should edit your video and let people know that the plastic valve extinguisher in your video is under recall. Also the dry chemical extinguisher (as you correctly stated the most popular) NONE of them will discharge for any where close to that long. A 5 lb dry chemical lasts 14 seconds and a 20lb. unit lasts 21. Don't tell me different brands are different, because to be UL listed the UL labs require them to empty in a set time.
Hi Alicia, Thanks for your information on this topic and contribution to the comments section!
Unfortunately, we don't update our videos to give manufacturer-specific information on recalls but I definitely appreciate the info!
Additionally, when the discharge time was stated, we were using information directly from the manufacturer. If, as you state, none of them will discharge close to that amount of time, maybe this would be a fun testing video to verify at some point using the UL information?! I'll look into adding that to our list of videos to film.

Yes, the standards vary from country to country but you can usually find information stamped on the top curve of the bottle.
