    Well done presentation. Some easy to remember acronyms that can help make sure the extinguisher is the correct type is as follows: A = Ashes. B = Barrels. C = Circuits. D = Dynamite. K = Kitchen. In a commercial establishment a workplace hazard assessment likely has been already done and periodic audits may be required by law in some areas. For example in a welding and fabrication shop that works with magnesium, titanium and similar exotic metals will likely have a class D extinguisher in addition to the most commonly seen ABC dry chemical type on hand. The class D extinguisher is typically yellow while the ABC type is usually red. Likewise if you are a serious home cook and do a lot of deep frying a class K in addition to an ABC extinguisher is a wise investment for maximum fire safety and is typically required by law in commercial kitchens.

    Thank you for sharing. Almost all of us can stand some refresher training to maintain proficiency, should you ever find yourself in an unexpected situation.
    While on the subject of fire classes, there is actually no such thing as a class C only extinguisher, because the "C" merely indicates the extinguishing agent does not conduct electricity back to the user where it poses a risk of electrocution, therefore an extinguisher with suitable for C fires will always be either A-B-C (most common), B-C (CO², Halon/Halotron units less than 11 lb) , or A-C (water mist)

    A fires leave Ashes, B fires are items stored in Barrels, C fires are things that have Circuits. Nothing crafty for D type fires and K, of course is for Kitchen. That's been a good way for me to train so someone might remember.

    Thank you! I was always a bit anxious in fire drills or when I had a bit of time and noticed a fire extinguisher, as I felt I did not have sufficient knowledge on how to use it, and this anxiety stemmed from when I was away in school years ago and a fire broke out in our home. At that time the fire extinguisher did not work and my sister used my dad's leather coat to put an end to the flames, burning her hands in the process with minor burns along her arms and elbow. She is fine nowadays and is playing all instruments, but things could of become worse at any time. Your video is very well done and easy to understand, and now in my hallway there is a new and yearly verified extinguisher. Thank you.

    Had a fire, and properly used the correct class of the portable fire extinguisher. The extinguisher last about 12 seconds and not 30 seconds as stated on the video. The video is excellent and clearly communicates the three main points. However, I do believe the time of how long the extinguisher will last needs to be updated or edited by giving a range of time and not just saying 30 seconds.

    Thank you, that was very good material. I have a question: what happens if you use an ABC Extinguisher on a greasy kitchen fire? I am guessing most peoples homes don't have multiple classifications of Fire Extinguishers "at the ready". You use what you got. I am guessing this scenario comes up a lot. Thanks

      A standard ABC extinguisher will work for a fire that typically happens at home. That would be covered under the "B" rating of the extinguisher. The K class is definitely a better option and is what is required in a commercial kitchen however the size of a fire you are going to have at home is typically small enough that if you get an ABC and use it fast enough it will work fine. You will definitely have some annoying clean up as it is a super fine powder but it's better than your home burning down.

    Fire Extinguisher Tech here, You should edit your video and let people know that the plastic valve extinguisher in your video is under recall. Also the dry chemical extinguisher (as you correctly stated the most popular) NONE of them will discharge for any where close to that long. A 5 lb dry chemical lasts 14 seconds and a 20lb. unit lasts 21. Don't tell me different brands are different, because to be UL listed the UL labs require them to empty in a set time.

    • @AllySafety
      @AllySafety  3 года назад

      Hi Alicia, Thanks for your information on this topic and contribution to the comments section!
      Unfortunately, we don't update our videos to give manufacturer-specific information on recalls but I definitely appreciate the info!
      Additionally, when the discharge time was stated, we were using information directly from the manufacturer. If, as you state, none of them will discharge close to that amount of time, maybe this would be a fun testing video to verify at some point using the UL information?! I'll look into adding that to our list of videos to film.

      No it’s not what do you mean? I’ve never seen somebody have a fire extinguishers in there homes because fires usually occur when sleeping, or they are caused by kids who don’t know any better. It’s not sad because it’s a stupid idea
