A group of EU finance ministers call for sanctions to be ratcheted up amid signs Moscow’s war machine is weakening.. “If Putin stays on this path, the long-term damage to the Russian economy will be significant,” they wrote in a joint article in the Guardian. "Now it is time for the west to up the pressure even more. Supporting Ukraine and undermining Russia’s capacity to wage war at every turn should be the top priority of every democratic country,” they said.
@@yyyy-uv3po Well the new mobilisation law means that Ukraine should get a boost in manpower starting from Autumn. So Ukraine simply has to hold firm for few more months and then it should (hopefully) be safe. But that of course depends on Western support too!
The original payment is "Signup" That means they get that money before they leave for basic training.. mind, the chances of getting teh other $30k plus for the first year is ratherl ow.. Take the example of the youngest soldier dying.. enlisted at 18, died on the front line 7 days later.. so, not a lot of training..
I think it's Russian law that if there's no body, there's no legitimate reason to call the person dead or the family being eligible for death benefits. It's why all those zinc coffins coming back are empty. And in the Putin/Soviet mindset, not only did those people die and aren't eligible for benefits, but they never existed at all. So the family has no claim to begin with. It's beyond cynically disgusting.
Russia men are still doing it. I can't imagine how much I would have to hate myself and my life (as a Russian) to give up my life to Putin for $22,000.
When you teach E4 in the US military they pay is actually a decent wage when you consider your living expenses, no utility bills, meals and medical are free if you want to eat at the mess hall every day. Lol. I did 6 years in the navy as a cryptologist and honestly, when we were docked, the chow hall wasn't so bad. Underway, obviously, we ate on the ship and it wasn't bad at all. Some folks grumbled about it but I never had a problem with it. Good times.
@@JakeBroe Try looking at it through their eyes Average wage for a lot of these men, assuming they have a full time paying job, is of the order of US$200/ month.. And prices for things are not comparably low "The current gasoline price in Russia is RUB 57.32 per liter or USD 0.65 per liter and was updated on 22-Jul-2024." US gas price is about US$1/lt... A recruitment payment of $22,000 is the equivalent of 110 month's wages.. So, what would you be willing to do for a cash payment of 110 times your current net after tax monthly income ("Plus the "promise" of similarly large monthly salary)?
The foreign mercs say there are NO more Bonuses being paid out!!- (Hard to imagine Putin pulling a major "Fast One" on ya- hmm?! They have really bad conditions, lack of good food, etc. Who knew?!!)...
I believe the seeds of corruption are planted by Putin himself. He allows/encourages those that climb the ladder a dip into state funds, unofficially. KGB tactics. He can then turn on them, appears he is ‚making a clean sweep of corruption“ when ever he feels threatened by the success or popularity of a potential rival. Same as 2014 him forming the Wagner Group to do his bidding, keeping the image of the official fine Russian Army free of all the murderous underhand actions in the Dondass and in Africa.
Mostly naive people from soviet times that still think that their new capitalistic country will listen to their concerns. In western contries we just know that nobody cares.
It's funny how all the Russian propaganda videos that were made trying to make the case that Europe will freeze and only inexperienced conscripts would be sent to the front, is actually all taking place for real in Russia. They predict their own demise, but deflect it on to someone else to justify the march towards their own destruction.
Konstantin on his Inside Russia YT channel has said a few times that one of the way people in Russia divide the year is into the _Heating Season_ and the _Preparation for the Heating Season._ The Heating Season will inevitably come, but Konstantin is certain that not nearly enough is being done to maintain and repair district heating systems and other energy infrastructure during the current Preparation season.

Main stream media and human tragedy don't live on the same planet as the rest of us,most probably controlled by our so called liberal and democratic governments!
I suspect it's because it would bring attention to Chinese harvesting of human organs, on top of media being burned out on bad news coming out of Russia.
Simple: The government pays the money to the soldier. The soldier goes to the front line. Officers will tell them that they have to buy their equipment, but because of shortages the money they need to supply themselves for about a month's worth of food, ammo and equipment will conveniently be the same as the sign-up contract's payment. So either 1. They pay because they don't want to die and thus the government has their money back. Or 2. The money goes to the soldiers' family. The government can just falsely accuse anyone at any time with trumped up charges and steal the money back if not too many people choose option 2. In the end they'd have more soldiers, but it cost them less.
It sounds less crazy when you consider the lack of information and outright lies about the strength of the Russian Army etc. I’m sure there is obviously some information out there but just a lot less in the rural areas.

I am not Ukrainian either so I dont get a vote about conceeding territories but I do get to have an opinion. Giving away territory will only facilitate further aggression and war. Concession deals with dictators NEVER work.
I'm not sure. Would depend on the deal, I guess. Winning the peace longterm might be the most important goal for Ukrainians now. If the territorial concession includes NATO-membership for Ukraine in the future ...
@@anjafarkAnd this is the big problem that prevents any kind of negotiation: Putin does not want Ukraine to join NATO or the European Union, the only thing he offers is a ceasefire which, well, he can violate whenever he wants as soon as Western interest in Ukraine fades.
@@Trattato68 This won't happen. Russia has a very absurd and self-suggesting idea of "the west". @@SomethingBlondeyes, but he thought it would be easy and only take 3 days. And let's be honest, if Ukraine had fallen that quickly, does anyone seriously think the west would have cared? The reason putler thought it would be easy is because the US and UK washed their hands of Ukraine in 2014 and showed the world that the promise of the Budapest memorandum was worthless. That 2 rich influential powers would just ignore their moral obligations if it was inconvenient. They were not even in Ukraine's corner during Minsk or later in Paris. Even after MH17 the west barely reacted and quickly forgot. Putler just thought it wouldn't be different this time. He didn't account for Zelenskyy. You can see the very moment EU policy shifts: at the end of that speech Zelenskyy gives to the EU, when Roberta Metsola gets up to give that standing ovation. There's this little tilt/shake of her head that she does, probably to suppress tears. That's when. Before, a lot of Western Europe saw Ukraine as "just a bunch of poor, corrupt eastern Europeans who have stupid revolutions all the time". It's our fault here in the west for not having done more in 2014.
The abduction of Ukraine's children, and now this horrific story of organ harvesting, will keep me awake for years to come. How are these families enduring this torture.

That fact alone speaks loudly about what type of people they are and what values they cherish. Slava Ukraini.
Putin is very definitely looking like an old man these days. The knowledge that he has made a complete hash of everything can't be slowing down the aging process.

I'm sure Vance is certain about what he wants: power, fame, and wealth. Given what we know about his childhood and youth, him being driven to achieve those things is understandable. Zhukov spent a million retaking Stalingrad. I think it does Ukraine a disservice to pretend that losing land is OK. In fact NATO needs to do a lot more.
urk lost 0,12 % land in the last 6 monthe, russia lost around 1150 soldiers a day in that period, at that rate russia will win in 260 years ;o) and have lost 280 million of the 144 russians that live in ru today ;o) and in that period russia really started to fall appart from within ,, in short , ukr is winning and the orcs are killing themself and russia ,,
Retaking Stalingrad happened at a time when population growth was exponential in Eurasia, as it is in sub-Saharan Africa and Afghanistan today. These days are gone in Eurasia. Afghanistan, Mali, Chad, Palestine and the like can, and will, wage war continuously, Europe and Russia cannot due to their demographics. The theory behind this phenomenon is called "Youth Bulge Conflict".
I learned a lot listening to this. You are right, NATO can easily respond to the drone attack by giving Ukraine permission to fire missiles a few extra kilometers into Russia, making the drone attack quite stupid on Russia's part. Finally, that garden....my Goodness! I'm a gardener myself. I garden not just for food but for life sustaining endeavor, to keep my spirit alive.

Wasn't the main reason why life in '50s America was so good the fact that the US had almost no industrial competitors then (because World War II bombing had wrecked them all)? I wonder if that explains why many MAGA types are against helping Ukraine: because they don't want the 21st century's imperialist aggressors to be defeated _too_ early? Rather they hope that Xi and Putin will somehow wreck Europe and Asia while leaving North America conveniently untouched, much as Hitler and Tojo did in the 20th century.

Let's hope that Ukraine can resist one more year.

Well the new mobilisation law means that Ukraine should get a boost in manpower starting from Autumn. So Ukraine simply has to hold firm for few more months and then it should (hopefully) be safe.
But that of course depends on Western support too!
$22,000 to become meat assures you won't get the $22,000.
Good times.
@@JakeBroe Try looking at it through their eyes
Average wage for a lot of these men, assuming they have a full time paying job, is of the order of US$200/ month..
So, what would you be willing to do for a cash payment of 110 times your current net after tax monthly income ("Plus the "promise" of similarly large monthly salary)?
those rusky soldiers are not gonna get that money, if they were not paying them the last 2 years, why would they pay them now?

Winter's certainly going to be interesting in Russia. I'm glad, now more than ever, that our veterans fought for our freedom from Russia
Well if I would be a positive person I would presume that Russia is saving money and capability for the Winter! But then again I'm a realist so I know that Russians think that it is future Russias problem!

Another thing: why media is not talking about povs without organs. Noone talks about it in the mainstream media
Exactly
Main stream media and human tragedy don't live on the same planet as the rest of us,most probably controlled by our so called liberal and democratic governments!
Instead the mainstream news focuses on negative bs about Zelenskyy.
Push it, it needs to be more public.
I suspect it's because it would bring attention to Chinese harvesting of human organs, on top of media being burned out on bad news coming out of Russia.
How they are paying millions of rubles for new soldiers when they cant pay even the older soldiers who are on front lines??
Print the paper, but they don’t live to collect, and survivor benefits aren’t paid as Russia has for some time not collected their dead to identify.
It seems like they are paying but the officers over them are stealing it so the guys and his family never gets it.
How much does printing more rubles cost?
Simple:
The government pays the money to the soldier.

And as russian propaganda is constantly threatening Europe and NATO-couuntrys, theire war is not an "isolated" russian brutality against Ukraine only.
