      Tells you a few things when they’re giving recruitment bonuses that big. The first being that they’re super desperate to get volunteers from the outer regions of Russia to volunteer and it’s getting a lot more difficult to do it. Secondly, Putin is scared to death of having to do another mass conscription. And the reason for that is that most likely that will involve doing what he has managed to avoid thus far and that’s snatching young men off the streets of Moscow and St. Petersburg. it’s good news. They’ll run out of money for their war machine quickly if they have to keep that up.

      If you look up ww2, when the Nazis invaded russian they were greeted as liberators at first, till the SS came behind the other troops and did what they did.
      The army would move "on" or advance and troops behind (I can't name the unit because youtube would remove post ) they would "round" people up etc, steal food, live stock and stuff.

      If you watch some of the Russian POW interviews (Zolkin Volodymyr's channel) when they call their family, the family almost always says they didn't get any money from their men being in captivity. Some used to get a portion of what was promised; now no one is getting anything.

      I saw a video of a recent Russian citizen being interviewed about the state of affairs there, and he was asked how to increase prosperity for the average Russian. A guy in his early thirties. His response was perfect. "I think we need to print MORE rubles so the value of our currency will be higher and we can be competitive with the American dollar." I would have laughed if it wasn't so tragically moronic. These are the people being duped to go to the front and thinking they'll get paid. Everyone in Russia with half a brain left during the first call to mobilization.

      The question is how much equipment can be supplied at the front lines. It is a logistical balancing act. You can ship all the equipment to Ukraine you want, but if you cannot get it to the front lines it is just a bunch of paperweights or live fire targets. All that equipment needs fuel and ammo. Unfortunately, we don't know how good Ukrainian logistics are, and if they could keep all that equipment operational if was sent.

It's why all those zinc coffins coming back are empty. And in the Putin/Soviet mindset, not only did those people die and aren't eligible for benefits, but they never existed at all. So the family has no claim to begin with. It's beyond cynically disgusting.

      Simple:
      The government pays the money to the soldier. The soldier goes to the front line. Officers will tell them that they have to buy their equipment, but because of shortages the money they need to supply themselves for about a month's worth of food, ammo and equipment will conveniently be the same as the sign-up contract's payment. So either 1. They pay because they don't want to die and thus the government has their money back. Or 2. The money goes to the soldiers' family. The government can just falsely accuse anyone at any time with trumped up charges and steal the money back if not too many people choose option 2.
      In the end they'd have more soldiers, but it cost them less.

      The reason putler thought it would be easy is because the US and UK washed their hands of Ukraine in 2014 and showed the world that the promise of the Budapest memorandum was worthless. That 2 rich influential powers would just ignore their moral obligations if it was inconvenient. They were not even in Ukraine's corner during Minsk or later in Paris.
      Even after MH17 the west barely reacted and quickly forgot. Putler just thought it wouldn't be different this time.
      He didn't account for Zelenskyy. You can see the very moment EU policy shifts: at the end of that speech Zelenskyy gives to the EU, when Roberta Metsola gets up to give that standing ovation. There's this little tilt/shake of her head that she does, probably to suppress tears. That's when.
      Before, a lot of Western Europe saw Ukraine as "just a bunch of poor, corrupt eastern Europeans who have stupid revolutions all the time".

    • @GCarty80
      @GCarty80 2 месяца назад

      Wasn't the main reason why life in '50s America was so good the fact that the US had almost no industrial competitors then (because World War II bombing had wrecked them all)?
      I wonder if that explains why many MAGA types are against helping Ukraine: because they don't want the 21st century's imperialist aggressors to be defeated _too_ early?
      Rather they hope that Xi and Putin will somehow wreck Europe and Asia while leaving North America conveniently untouched, much as Hitler and Tojo did in the 20th century.
