This is an awesome list with the links of fish you can keep with the amazing little beauties and is a great help!! Thanks Jason!! I hope you guys are having a blessed weekend! 🌿🐟🌿💚🙏
Ember tetras might very well be the most underrated nano fish. They can handle a variety of water parameters, rarely get sick, extremely hardy, doesn't fin nip and has a beautiful colour.
I've got em with cardinals and a male Pearl Gourami, they're awesome. I didn't expect to like them so much when I bought them but they are really captivating and personable for such a small fish.
Ember tetras are one of my favorite tetras. I keep mine in 20 gallon heavily planted tank along with neon tetras, black neon tetras, corydoras, celestial pearl danios, amano shrimp, and a breeding colony of cherry shrimp. Recently I found that after a heavy plant pruning that I had some ember tetra fry. They were fortunately large enough that the others didn’t bother them and my school I thought had grown from 6 to 10 , but tonight I found another smaller fry, again too large to be bothered by the others so 11 is my new total. Who knows as tome passes more may come out of hiding.
My Betta just died so I cleaned his aquarium up and filled it with Ember Tetras. I like them in the smaller aquariums. I feel like they would be lost in my 55 or even my 29 gallon. I so enjoy watching them swim. So peaceful with no aggression at all. But I have chose to keep them as a single species not in a community setup. Thanks.
I recently lost most of my ember tetras when a heater malfunctioned and overheated their tank. They shared a 10 gallon with my female Betta for 3.5 yrs. I loved how pretty they looked among all the green plants. I am definitely getting some more when I find some.
I bought 10 of these for my planted 29G a couple of weeks ago, bought another 10 yesterday. They are so beautiful and really bounce around the tank together. So far, my 5" Pearl Gourami hasn't bothered them, and I've seen him eat Platy fry. I personally think that larger fish are pretty well behaved with them, as they move around together and quickly. Plus my gourami is always well-fed because I'm a sucker when he begs for food :)
Just got 16 Embers a couple of days ago. I did take a bit of a chance, though, putting them in with my three balloon belly mollies. They chased them at first, but by the next day they ignored the embers thank God. Now everyone is comfortable and happy with no losses. I have black sand, and a black background with lots of live plants, so I’m looking forward to them colouring up. 🧡
Ember tetras are a great nano fish. They look amazing in my planted fluval flex 15. They've bred and I managed to save one baby that's growing up in another tank
Can I ask if you had other fish or creatures in the tank with the embers? I've been trying to figure out my fish stocking for my new fluval flex 15 and don't want to overstock!
Jason, you always do such a great job explaining about the types of fish. I always learn so much from you. You and Joanna make the hobby fun and interesting for newbies like me. Thanks so much. 🐟🐟🐟🐌🐌
Embers are also one of my favorites. I love the boisterous personalities compared to say a neon tetra that tends to be really shy. I think I'm going restock my 20 long with exclusively with embers. Probably three Julii Cory's and some snails. Simple planted tank with a massive Japanese wisteria. Should be excellent! 😁
Hi Jason. Thanks for showing these fish. They may be small but their color really makes them stand out. I really like how you have your fish room set up. It is set up so cool! Thankyou for mentioning in this video artificial plants can be used. Sometimes I feel less than from several videos on RUclips who only say to use real plants. I’m not ready yet to try my hand at real plants. Have a great day! Sincerely, Marty Borst
Just last week I put 80 ember tetras in my 120g planted tank in part as dither fish for my corys that were hiding. I only had corys and RCS in the tank but now it is a cloud of activity with all these great little tetras darting about.
I got some of these as dither fish for my puffer and really like them. They arent skitish at all, they do a good job of catching the puffers leftovers, and they really pop in the green plants. Lighting appears to be key with these fish they got super bright when i got them in my tank with a good plant light. If i had known how they were going to look in my tank it wouldnt have quibbled over whether or not to get them.
Great video Jason! I just added a small batch of these ember tetras to my OVERSIZED nano tank setup on channel. I love the color and how they stay small! Perfect fit and I’m surprised how well they school too
I recently got into keeping dwarf shrimp for the first time and I got a small school of 11 to go in with a colony of cherry shrimp, they have no trouble at all eating shrimplets. They are really hardy and can handle a wide temperature range. I don't have a heater in my tank and they are thriving at 72-74 f. They quarrel with eachother like most schooling tetras.
I got these as bonus. Started out at 5 now theres over 20 of them.i keep them. In an 8 gallon tank with a big ohotos growing out of it. Easy to breed if you heavily plant the tank and feed lots
Very surprised to hear you say yours are at a pH of nearly 8! I keep mine in a 29 gallon apistogramma & bristlenose breeding tank, with a pH of 5-5.5! They've been amazing for the last couple years, and are one of my favourite fish.
I have them in my 10 gallon with two female guppies. Fell in love with them as soon as I saw them on RUclips. I was so happy, because I thought the embers bred and the eggs hatched without any separate tanks or anything special! After a couple months, I'm pretty positive those babies are just guppies (they were from a "female only tank", guess a male snuck in... whoops!) XD.
Very nicely profiled. They are my first choice in a Flex 15 planted tank with two Endler livebearers, a mystery snail and a betta. The betta is not aggressive and only occasionally chases the Endlers, so I think it should work out.
im usually a rummynose tetra guy, they my go to tetra for tanks but decided on a whim to go with ember tetra for my new 10g riparium started with 6 and as soon as i moved them from their week in a bare bottom quarantine bin to their forever home their entire personalities changed, i have 5 more in quarantine now...
I'm about to buy some Ember Tetras and I'm so anxious about it! I've tried tetras before and it was a disaster. My tank is newly cycled (but definetly cycled) with ph 7 and low hardness (I use Neutral Regulator to keep all my water changes at that parameter) and 25 celsius (77 Fº). I've heard a lot of people talking about tetras needing older tanks, but I don't have a way to "olden" a tank. I've added lots of silk plants and some live anubias, as well as driftwood. I hope it goes well!
Update: I bought 15 and they are all doing great! I'm really happy with these species, and I found them much better than Neons due to their resistance.
Thinking of adding some of these to my 66G planted tank ( black sand substrate) maybe about 20? to add some pop to it I currently have 9 Kuhli loaches, lemon bristlenose , 8 black skirts and 28 green neons. I think the orange would really bring the out the yellows of the bottom dwellers and give a contrast to the neons and the black skirts. Love watching your videos, keep up the good work! Love from the UK
I got one by a fluke at the pet store listed as glofish tetra. I have 3 glofish tetra 7 neon tetra and this little guy. Didn’t no what it was till 2 weeks ago. Had mine since before Christmas. So glad to see this information on them.
I had 9 in a 10 gallon with a betta and they were not having it. They kept nipping my bettas fins so I had to bring them back. Would have got another tank up and running but was going on vacation. Def plan to get more in future community tank!
This video is tempting my mts and I really don't want to care for more than one tank atm. That being said I'm imagining a little planted ten gallon with a school of these guys and a bunch of blue shrimp. My son loves shrimp. I wonder if I could get him to maintain it so I can enjoy it without the work of mts LoL!
Love the Ember tetras!! Beautiful!💜👍😃 I would love to see a species profile on the gold tetras!! I've never seen them here in TX. So pretty. I usually have tiny fish so would they eat Green Neon?,Ember Tetras, pencil fish ect.??
Definitely a fish on my list for the next tank. Been thinking of doing a tank of various different Tetra. Wondered if these and Lemon Tetra would look good and work?
I do like these. I want them one day. Maybe with sparkling Gouramis in the 250 gallon once I get it going. I want nano fish in a giant planted tank so bad
👏👏👏 video and beautiful tank!! I’m inspired!! What made you decide to switch from a betta centerpiece to a honey gourami? Both are great, just curious what your thinking was behind that.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics got it :) sometimes you just have to change it up. Thank you for your reply and love your videos! So concise and packed with info - always fun to watch!
Great video Jason. Love these fish. I have 12 in a 5 gal. planted Fluval Spec V. Three pygmy corys and some Cherry shrimp are their tankmates. The cherry shrimp had some babies, but they aren't red. What's up with that? I feed them bug bites and newly hatched baby brine. Boy do they love the baby brine. The pygmies also. You should see the frenzy when I feed the baby brine.
I have a group of embers in my 29G nano tank. The plants are still growing in, but the fish are not shy about exploring the entire tank. They'll eat anything that fits in their tiny mouths with gusto, but make sure there's enough tiny bits so they don't have to compete with tank mates who may be faster and greedier. When you first add them to the tank it may take a few days until they get their full color, but they are definitely worth the wait. Ember tetras are a great little fish.
Hi! I love Ember tetras! I have 10 in my 16 gallon tank, 4 sunset platys and 1 oto. Do you think I can add more ember tetras? Or is it going to be overstocked?🤔 thanks! Beautiful tank!!
Not sure you look here. But in the decision of either getting the Ember or Ruby Tetra. Cannot decide, I like a small schooling fish. I find the schooling perhaps tighter in the Ember, but the Ruby has the interesting movement, on non movement. Will go together with small bristlenose pleco and dwarf gourami. Would love some input comment!
I put a dozen in a 30 gallon and I just can’t see them from across the room like I can my neon tetras even with black substrate. I think it’s because they’re about 1/3 the size of my neon tetras. Gonna put them in a smaller tank.
I have heard from some sources that pea puffers shouldn't really have tank mates but you guys have not lead me wrong yet. Anything special I should do if I add my Pea Puffer into my 15 column tank with Ember tetras? Do you think guppies would work with this at all? thank you!
I don't remember ever keeping our pea puffers alone? RIght now we have them in with sparkling gouramis, lampeye rasboras, CPDs, bristlenose plecos. I don't think you need to so anything special.
do you have experience with non filtered aquariums? i was thinking of buying a lot of schooling fish to be able to circulate heat in the water, would this work or do i still need a wave maker?

What temperature is that tank at? CPD has a max of 76 but everything else should be higher than that.
Highly likely I’ll get these to join my tank of green neons.
I've been keeping embers for 15 years. One of my faves and they're tough as heck for such little fish.
I agree!
I love these fish I had a few that lasted around 9 years, incredibly hardy and easy to care for!
That's cool!

One of the few great options for a tall or hex tank IMO! I love embers!!!

Even in a 100gallon they stand out beautifully. I've got 1 left and it has been living with my Betta for the last 2 years.
the reason why they keep ember tetras with bettas is because the school and the betta cannot bully them
Funny that I once also kept ember tetras with gold tetras, Absolutely love that combo. They also go great with Kubotai rasbora

I've got 10 of them in an 100 litre tank with 5 sparkling gourami, cherry shrimp and blue ramshorn snails.
Sounds like a cool tank!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I'm looking at adding some peacock gudgeon or golden ring danios.
I would recommend a planted tank with Ember Tetra’s and Gold or German Blue Rams
Sloofi Liprae
Nice 👌
what about blood fin tetras
Sure!
This is a beautiful tank!!!!!
Do you have any suggestions for a center fish for a 30 gallon full of different tetras?
Thanks!
As long as they aren't any smaller than a typical neon maybe a Ram or Kribensis?
Very cute
Just want to get more of them :-)
Hi Jason! Stunning tank. Can you perhaps let us know what the stocking in this tank is?
It's changed a little, but mostly Embers, Gold Tetras, Honey Gourami, and a single super red bristlenose.
I put a dozen in a 30 gallon and I just can’t see them from across the room like I can my neon tetras even with black substrate. I think it’s because they’re about 1/3 the size of my neon tetras. Gonna put them in a smaller tank.
I have 20 in a 55g. I have a 10g with endlers I was thinking about adding ember tetras with them and some shrimp.
Just added 6 embers to my 30g tank. Also have neons, xrays and red tetras
Nice!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you very much!!
do you have experience with non filtered aquariums? i was thinking of buying a lot of schooling fish to be able to circulate heat in the water, would this work or do i still need a wave maker?
They wouldn't create enough movement to circulate the water.
