@@johnsoldmicrowave1247 That's a wry observation. They say the real sixities didn't begin until around 1963, and didn't end until the early 70s, after Vietnam ended. And that the real 21st century didn't start in the 2000. It was still the 90s up untiol 9/11.
I’m not surprised they cut the scene with the little boy, when I originally saw the movie at 17, I knew how they said evil warlocks created flying potion according to legend and began to feel really queasy. When he said he didn’t go to church and why, I almost screamed. In the legends it was typically newborns since most people would have baptized their kids by the little boys age in The warlock and redferns time. It’s better left to the imagination, it would have been too much even for a horror fan like me.
It is better this way. Truthfully, we WANT to see the scene, don't we? But it's more horrifying being denied that and playing it out in our imagination. Another example that just pops into my head: the remake of the Hitcher. In the (vastly better!) original we don't see the slaughtered family in the car, just the hero seeing them and getting sick. And of course the famous pulled apart scene; a sick part of me was eager to see it happen but you don't. The remake shows it to you in detail and it just looks dumb.
Actually there was a murder case in 1995 inspired by this film. A teenage boy killed his younger neighbor, stripped off the young boy's fats, boiled them, then drank - as the movie depicted how to make the flying potion. murderpedia.org/male.C/c/charles-sandy.htm
@@bookerjones8123 I just discovered the Hitcher a few weeks ago. What a fucking movie! I found it more impactful when you don't see those scenes. Just the aftermath to demonstrate what he's capable of. Especially since the last you see of him is when he's in the car smiling with the little girl.
My favourite scene here is when the girl used a blessed hammer to nail his foot tracks. Can't imagine the pain especially when she hammered his head mark on the sand.
I still love this movie, but would love to have an uncut version out there somewhere. First saw this movie when I was 6. Had nightmares for years and loved every moment of it =P For some reason the amish guy bleeding from the eyes haunted me for years and was in my top 3 scariest scenes from movies in my childhood =P
It remains a masterpiece without said scenes. It is enough to see, or be hinted at, that which should remain occult! One of Sands finest timesless performances. Now I am off for some lunch no matter how bare that sounds!
This movie is rather overlooked. Not only is the plot compelling but it has many notions that you usually don't see in a demonic film. One of the legends of the jewish faith is that true name of G-d is 72 letters long and saying it would give you great powers.
Sometimes less really is more! Sounds like it here. I can relate to Julian Sands figuring this was just another slasher flick cause round that time it's what you got. I remember when I first saw the trailers for Warlock. It's about to time, was my very thought.
I remember a scene from a movie I saw a long time ago, where a man reads a book tearing pages out after he finishes them one by one. I think he was someone from the past that came to our time, and he sort of catches up on what was going on, he's very amused while reading, laughs and all, but I'm not sure, I don't really remember. Originally I thought it was Julian Sands in the Warlock (1 or 2), but after rewatching it seems it was another movie. Anyone saw such a scene anywhere?
Whether he liked it or hate it. The Warlock made Sands much more popular and his charisma and thespian is a highlight . Though there are Two and almost the same movies. The 1st one I think is much better as there are more of a dramatic plot and characters. Richard E. Grant came off very like Solomon Kane. The BBC missed out a opportunity in casting Sands as a Younger Doctor for a Doctor Who prequel. RIP Julian.
Good video! However, the shot of the warlock kneeling inside the circle is online. There are also other photos of deleted scenes that did not make the fully loaded Vestron release for some reason.
Thanks, bud! Do you have any idea where I could find the shot and/or pics of those scenes? I'd love to see them, and could maybe even edit the video a bit to include them. Glad you enjoyed the video, though, man! :D
No problem. If you do a google search for the image, it should come up. I think there are several different resolutions of that image out there. I have seen the photos of the other deleted scenes in the magazines that covered the film's release back in 1989. I have pretty much all of them from both the U.S and abroad. When I put the bulk of the information on those scenes on Warlock's Wikipedia page, I didn't even include some of the ones that were from earlier drafts of the screenplay. At some point, I'll scan in all the photos that Vestron did not include on their release and make a video that also includes information from the original screenplay.
Ohhhh, I finally see it now! The pic I found is pretty small, though. Wish there were something in higher resolution. Definitely hit me up if you don't mind when you do those scans / video. I'd love to check it out. I'd also be interested to hear what else they removed since you mention that there are excluded scenes from the screenplay. Also, if you'd ever like to have a write-up about it on TalkHorror.com, let me know. I'd love to feature it.
Here's a link to a bigger version; www.alamy.com/stock-photo-warlock-year-1991-director-steve-miner-julian-sands-10148156.html I'll let you know when I get a video put together. I had a post on the imdb forums a while back that discussed most of the differences, though when they closed the forums that went with it. I would definitely be interested in doing a write-up on it at some point though.
Bad ass! I wish Alamy wouldn't jizz all over practically every image on the internet, though. I look very much forward to the video. I'd love to have seen your write-up on the iMDB forums. That place was such an amazing source of information and a great way to communicate with fans. It's so disappointing that they would get rid of something like that merely because of internet trolls.
This is one of a few 80s films I'd love to see a reboot of, not to disparage the original, which I still love to this day, but it's got an amazing premise that I think would do decently well in 2020 and beyond.
God I loved this movie as a kid. In all honesty I think they good despite what they cut out. Some things are best not shown. It seems counter intuitive but it actually works in the movies favour.
im not against gory scenes but julian already had a superb unnerving presence. i wouldve loved for him to have played lestat.
Yes he should have been LESTAT 💔
Warlock isn't a "film from the late 90's" as the narrator says in the beginning: it is from the late 80's (1989 to be more precise)!
But it wasn't released until the early nineties
@@phillise1 The eighties didn't end until in ninety-three.

i wanted to become a warlock after watching this film.
Don't forget your payment for your wish after your life you will receive eternal torment in hell.
How is it possible that I only know a version of this film with these scenes included? That was the only version available in the '90s in Poland.
What was the scene like with the boy? I suspect we see his skeleton
Love me the warlock films
They should remake this movie, a great concept, that has rarely been exploited in the slasher genre.
Conversation Club your right and make it closer to the book.
It would be an embarrassment. The actors and directors of today are inept
They cut out the depiction of "Satans Member" as well.
Why do you say the film is from the late 90s when the movie was made in 1989? Even your title says 1989
Because he doesn't give a fuck about trying to BE professional and accurate...

Think the version that I saw had the full medium scene in. It was definitely a bit iffy.
I am really surprised at how modern this looked for a film from the 80s.
I need to rewatch it soon. It's been too long!
We need a remake of this great movie
It will probably happen at some point, I'm sure. It was big enough to spawn sequels.
