The original concept was about three lab assistants who drank a serum, became kaiju’s, and then went on a gleeful rampage. That would’ve been something I wanted to see. This, not so much. What made the studio think it was a good idea to ditch the dark humor and premise of the original game? If the director thought it was ridiculous, then they should’ve gotten another director. Will catch this on cable/streaming service.
If Dwayne Johnson does end up running for president in 2020, then I would love to see some attack ads from rival candidates which use footage from his movies. "On the movie screen, Dwayne Johnson will allow a 50-foot gorilla to destroy entire cities, simply because the gorilla used to be his friend, and he doesn't want to kill it. So as president, do you think America can afford it if he responds this softly...to a REAL-LIFE TERRORIST ATTACK? We don't think voters want to find out. I'm Kid Rock, and I approve-witda-prove-da-bang-da-bang-diggy-diggy this message."
I'm Dwayne Johnson and my opponent Kid Rock has approved attack ads trying to assassinate my character and my resolve to protect American citizens from foreign invaders who wish to interfere with hard working Americans seeking the American dream. I want to assure the American people that if you vote for me as the 47th president of the United States of America I promise to put the smack down on any candy ass terrorist, I will rock bottom the unemployment rate ,and give the peoples eyebrow to taxes. Vote Dwayne Rock Johnson for president 2020 if you smellllllllllllllllllll;p;p;p;p;p;p;;p;p;p;p;p;p;p;;p;p;p;p;p;p;p;;lllllayyyowwwwwww what Presidential candidate Dwayne Johnson is cooking. ~,~''"
18:56 I agree so much, and the fact that the director thought the concept of the game is too silly compared to the actual movie he made speaks volumes. Rampage could have made a really good gallows humor black comedy kaiju movie where the three main characters (The Rock could even play George) turn to monsters and go on a rampage while the bumbling military tries to stop them by throwing increasingly ridiculous weaponry at them. Make it 90 minutes and filled to the brim with visual gags and it would not only be a decent movie but a great video game movie. But of course Hollywood has to change everything until it's unrecognizable. Another missed opportunity.
I'm still confused as to why they didn't go with the game plot of humans turning into monsters. Too morally ambiguous for audiences? Human transformation is too digitally complex for a popcorn flick?
Yea, but let’s not forget this the same director that made San Andreas, so his comment/reasoning was not only silly but almost stupidly hypocritical tbh
I think they really missed the opportunity to have it where the Monsters were human beings that got changed due to one thing or another. They could have even had it where the Dwayne Johnson was one of the effected individuals. It was in the game this is based off of that the monsters were human, so it is even that much more disappointing that they changed it.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's best performance has been in Zack Snyder's Watchmen. I hope if he plays Flashpoint Batman, he won't lean to much and talk like Negan.
reaper39 let me amend my statement. MoS is honestly one of my favorite superhero movies and as a long time Batman fan growing up in the 90s, the joke was to crack on Superman. MoS for me shifted him away from camp to a sci-fi character which I approve of. BvS is not a good movie lol. C'mon man murdery Batman is not Batman. But God was Batfleck good. I approved of it. But everything from lex's plan really relying happenstance and luck to Martha to Lois throwing the damned spear into the well for no damned reason and then, without any prompting going back to retrieve it was fucking stupid. Yes the directors cut fixed alot of issues but it could never fix those two things, but Zack wasn't the problem, it was the script and launching a universe with an old Batman. Would have been cool to see that take as a stand alone or later on in the unviverse. And yes let's not talk about Justice league lol. Also watchmen isn't in the DCEU. But yes I concur it's great and wasn't properly appreciated.
I find that ironic how the director thought it would be too silly for humans to transform into rampaging monsters yet the movie he made is just as ridiculous as that concept. The 2 goofy corporate villains, the science, and The Rock surviving a gun shot wound are fine but humans morphing into monsters isn't? If anything the director should've embraced that idea.
I miss the human turned creature monster films. They poised interesting questions about humanity and what makes you a monster. They apparently are too smart for this director. He probably feels stupid now that Shape of Water won best picture.
yoshimasterleader I don’t find that stupid That’s credit where credit is due , del toro knows what he’s doing He’s been around a lot longer than the schmuck who made this forgettable trash

Here's an idea. Why don't they get people that have written good game stories (mass effect, red dead, GTA, the last of us, etc.) and get them to write the movies?
I had an absolute blast with this movie. Yes it may have suffered from a slow second act, but it made up for it definitely with the first and third Act. I would give this a full Price
Turns 5 today! This was one of the better-received entries; didn't set the genre on fire but fot the ball rolling for future video game adaptations The action and the effects are a lot of fun The last half is the best part watching the monsters all come together wreaking havoc and destruction, their creature designs are pretty creative too It's just too bad the movie is highly forgettable and feels rather empty The villains are so cookie cutter at best too True the source material barely had a story to begin with, after all it was just a bunch of monsters bashing away at each other Still the box office numbers were decent making this one of the better adaptations next to the Tomb Raider reboot So it wasn't a total disaster; this isn't deep but mindless fun when it comes to destroying stuff
George could regenerate faster than the others. The croc devoured the entire sample and wasn't just sprayed with it either so his transformation makes sense.
Yeah I think the "were-kaijus" created by an lab experiment gone wrong would been a better plot and idea, and if it was done by the people who did guardians of the galaxy films or/and thor ragnarok. Then let it be a satire of the old monsters films and those "series" movies at the same time.
Martin always looking sharp af. As far as the movie goes. I would have been way more interested in seeing humans turning into giant creatures like the original game and with a more comedic tone. Embrace that silliness!
Wow, I agree with all you guys: rental. I genuinely loved Pacific Rim Uprising despite its minor flaws, but this one was too insipid for its own good. Glad I saw A Quiet Place before this.

Rampage was my favorite Arcade game. Played it every time I went. Still don't think it should have been made into a movie, but I guess cheesy big monster movies are in these days.
funny how you could kill innocent women in the game... but I am guessing every single woman in the movie is completely safe and never harmed. Not seeing it.
So I got the movie in a thrift store but it's a bootleg filmed at the cinema from the front row. So now I'm trying for a world record at the handheld Rampge by Basic Fun Arcade Classics, which was apparently released to coincide with the movie release in 2018. So now I am playing and I am getting deep into the gameplay, and decide I need more story. So I am watching the movie for the first time, and I don't think it's based on the game, at all. I love cheesy B scifi but this thing is ridiculous!

If they do a movie about human beings becoming giants animals and have it be based on a video game; it should be Altered Beast. I wouldn't mind that. Spy Hunter(1983) was gonna be a feature film. John Woo & Paul Anderson were involved with the movie. Dwayne Johnson had the lead. Suppose to come out in 2005. The movie never got made. I would love to see Dwayne Johnson cast as Turok (the dinosaur hunter) in a live action Turok movie since even though he is half-Samoan on his mom's side and I think he has the facial features enough to be accepted as portraying an indigenous American warrior as Turok was in the comic book and the video game series. It would be amazing to see Marvel Studios or some other studio put the funding in as this would be American cinema's first indigenous comic book superhero on-screen. Would love to see this after the successes of Wonder Woman and Black Panther. Very disappointing. =(
*SMFH* 🤨 Martin gives this movie a *Low Rental,* but gave Pacific Rim 2 *Some Ol' Bullshit.* I miss Gertz, he was the only reviewer on this panel who was honest and didn't have hidden agendas when giving his personal opinion for reviewing films.

They should have waaay more subs than other reviewers. I've been following these guys since the spill days.
Robert Johnson yeah this is some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen.
@@authorrobjohnson3178 Agreed. I don't get how Chris Stuckmann has 1.5m subs

Dwayne Johnson’s movie characters haven’t been human since The Rundown. He’s be a superhuman with powers since that movie came out 😂💯.
What about Snitch?
He's the new Arnold Schwarzenegger!
@@KeishenLloyd never that, Arnold made classics...Rocks movies are silly and forgettable.
@@bigbabysld Nothing the Rock makes can compare to classics like Conan the Barbarian.

People would think that premise would be fucking stupid, too.
Those people didn't grow up with old monster movies or classic books like Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Exactly
How is what they ultimately decided on not stupid?
That doesn't make it less stupid yoshi.
This channel is fantastic

That just immediately tells you that the director is a hack with no imagination.
I'm still confused as to why they didn't go with the game plot of humans turning into monsters. Too morally ambiguous for audiences? Human transformation is too digitally complex for a popcorn flick?
planclops Forget the human changing why the hell the monster did not eat people. This movie should have been Cloverfield on crack.
this is the 2nd Rock video game movie where going with the original premise of the game would have been enormously better- DOOM
Because the director thought it was too silly and ridiculous to go that route, even when the studio (WB) first pitched that idea in the first place.
That makes sense, although, it seems the way Rock is portrayed as indestructible in this film seems more silly in comparison.
Yea, but let’s not forget this the same director that made San Andreas, so his comment/reasoning was not only silly but almost stupidly hypocritical tbh
I lost it when they called the villains Team Rocket
Kevin Petrak The villains were perfectly cast. Would make for Jessie & James in a live-action Pokemon film.
Hell yeah they would!
I think they really missed the opportunity to have it where the Monsters were human beings that got changed due to one thing or another. They could have even had it where the Dwayne Johnson was one of the effected individuals. It would sound more like a horror movie than a giant monster flick.
Nah
Gabriel Crosley no that would have made it worse
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's best performance has been in Zack Snyder's Watchmen. I hope if he plays Flashpoint Batman, he won't lean to much and talk like Negan.
+Tommy Cipriani He was also really good in supernatural back when that show was good.
I want to bury the snyderverse and pretend it never happened

Laurens Sipahelut There making a movie based on a board game?
I think two, actually: One based on the making of the board and other based on the board game. That’s what I heard a while back on Collider
2 movies were made. Clue in the 80s & Mouse Hunt(based on mousetrap hotel) in the 90s. Why make another one?
When George flipped the rock off in the end, that did get me good LMAOOO
The Rock defies the laws of physics.
Drew Gars Well he's defied nature so it's not far fetched
The Neganing was strong in this movie, like damn Jeffery.
