  • This runway is perched on the top of a hill with the top cut off. It was a bit bumpier than expected. -could really feel it after touch down and later during takeoff.

What would you say to people who are worried you are shock cooling the engine on descent and landing?

On a typical flight cooling is very gradual. When starting a descent you will see a slight increase in speed and/or a slight reduction in power. The engine will begin to cool at that point. Cooling will increase throughout the descent as the air gets thicker, but this is a very gradual change. For the actual landing, power is brought back to near idle, but at the same time the airspeed is reduced to landing speed, that means cooling is also much reduced. The net effect is that temperatures cool very gradually all the way to the ground.
