    Dear Roger,
I love this drill stand you made. Looks sturdy and lasts long. A small observation. You have Incorporated slides at two sides of the drilling machine movement that ensures no friction and no wear and tear. Similarly if you shall accommodate slides at front and rear sides. It will ensure no wear and tear and also free from friction in front and rear movement. Thank you very much.

Love your shop, tools and bench order. The flat panel screen on the wall is *perfect*!
For the press base connect to the guide stand, I'd like to see a stronger mounting, maybe a gusset and the stand through the platform down a few inches with legs or extended material for solid footing on floor or table.
I've searched for simple, strong carriage [carrier] design, and so far yours is best.
My requirements call for vertical clearance of 20 inches and 12 inches of travel. Your design is easily modifiable to this, too. Just add a slotted vertical way to the plunge mount with a stop screw clamp and slide run that extends further down the carriage.

drill press like stone. great job. but one must finally gauge the drill tip because it newer stays perp at once. also most crucial part of this work is making a perfect hole for the drill clamp. if it is vertical and clamps well, remainder is rather easy.

Excellent recommendations and while I agree- the one about metal gears it does not always have to be true. Gears, as with bearings can be made to last longer- simply by making them larger- so a small ( thin ) sintered metal gear can last less time than a robust well-matched plastic gear. The type of metal is also extremely important in determining how long it will last.
That being said I always buy metal gears.
While there are cheap drill presses available in the US- I am sure using one you built yourself would feel better ( if well made of course ) to use.

  • @peterowens290

Sound design & excellent presentation, thanks! I have a few questions: why limit the travel, it looks as though with longer slides you could have through drilled 150 mm? Where did you get the springs? And why not attempt some speed control, it's trigger regulated as things stand & of not much use. I think you have the electronic savvy to fix that. Finally what do you recommend for those of us with no access to dressed oak? Oh yes - for gods sake paint or varnish your baby, eventually it will drill steel with coolant which can be destructive on unprotected timber.

By chance do you have a list of supplies ? And the dimensions in a list ? I would love to make this. I just need a little more detail if you can.

You are amazing, Mr Roger. I would love to replicate the machine if you send the dimensions of each piece in mm to be easily to fabricate, I love what you are doing really amazing. Best regards 👍🌹

Hi Roger. Nice vid. Would you consider improving it by stabilising the drill at the top? Thereby the wear on the timber would reduce and the drillbit will remain true for longer? If you agree, how would you stabilise the drill? Also, link to the plans please?
