  • Bhante Vimalaramsi, in a snippet from an evening Dhamma Talk, discusses how depression arises and how you can let it go by using the 6rs.
He defines the "6r's", mindfulness and what it really is, and its proper application that leads to wisdom. Wisdom is gained by the letting go of Craving and seeing how you are only an impersonal process.

This teachings are easily justified by the sutras. Buddha dhamma is a way to freedom but it is a way like milk with honey, but for some people it can be hard to keep the ethics, but the samadhi is an allowed way of having a good time.

Bhante Vimalaramsi I am so happy to get a response from you.
I am actually learning your meditative approach from Venerable Saccananda here in New York City and pursuant to his instructions I listen to your Dharma talks everyday. And if I can go to a retreat I will do so.
I want you to know that your approach to mediation through the 6 Rs has helped revolutionize my daily buddhist practice of cherishing every encounter and in truth I can’t thank you enough. Palms Together :).

I think if you just take care of yourself, let's say for your own "spirituality", and you are in a monastery or with people who take care of you...... it works. But with all the respect that this holy man can inspire and with all the respect that I can have for difference opinions, I would like to know what this sympathetic monk did for his family and community? Let's say for improving the life of all that are in the need? And works, for his own health? I spend sometime with gays repeating chants and mantras along the day, having wonderful "philosophical talks" and getting tree meals a day. It was "fantastic", no stress, no depression, no fear, no anger, just flying in this great atmosphere. But all these guys, didn't have children to feed, work to do (or to loose), tax responsibilities for the well being of the community. So I insist, this work, but go to tell war refugees or hungry people who has nothing for feeding their babies tonight all this great techniques.....

From what I understand Bhante Vimalaramsi spent a lot of time helping dying people in hospice care . His senior students seem to be very active in giving these teachings for free . True "forest tradition " monasteries allow people to stay for free or at very little cost . People stay for a while and go out into the world and make it a better place . Most monastics I've met don't seem to be in it for their own spiritual quests . Without generosity no one's meditation or spiritual practice will go far at all . I highly recommend spending a week or so volunteering at a Monastery . Peace
