I love my helium Sweet Potato 5’4! I stopped surfing my seaside and beyond ever since I got it. I ride it in 2+1 setup and it handles everything with ease. Also duck dives are much easier than the seaside models.
Mark what does SP stands for? Is this also made by Firewire? I was considering getting a seaside but now I have doubts . I appreciate your comments. Tks
Skip I don’t agree when it comes to compare old SP and new SP. Contours are pretty different, tail is not only swallowed but thinned out (just compare a 5’4 vs a 5’4 and you’ll see the differences very easily). The nose is also bit narrowed. All the board is more performance oriented still remaining the most easy friendly groveler out there with the Lost Bean Bang IMHO. I rode the first SP thant the Baked Potato, the Twice Baked and the new SP. TB and new SP are another level of board and fun.
Yuri, we’d had good to pumping surf for a few days, early last week. Unfortunately, I was working! Ugh! As the surf dropped off, dramatically to 1-2’ clean but racy, walled corners. Water temp, 58. Air 60. Forecast was 1-2’ and smaller to flat for the upcoming week. Normally, I would’ve went to the gym or go for a run. But, this video got me out. Watching you charge in tiny, cold water, my thoughts were pick out a suitable board and go for it. I chose a 7’1” TPH and caught 15 waves in a little over an hour. And then, I went for a run. Lol! Thanks for passing on your stoke, I’m sure it helps others out, without you even knowing it
Hey man! Thanks for watching. I just noticed your comment. I'm glad it helped you to get out to catch a few. My buddy got 6'7" TPH and he's loving it however he wished he would get 7'0" to cover more conditions out here.
I tried a friends 6'6" hyptoKrypto once in solid 2-3 waves and it did not go well for me. It felt like sittig on top of a buoy impossible to control. This was before my switch from short and wide to midlengths and i wonder how i would do now.
hmmm.... not sure about this one. Although, at least you are having fun :) And that is what matters most, right? But just because it is longer, doesn't make it a "mid length". In those conditions, that board just looked a big, round, fat piece of foam. Obviously, you did a great job getting any sort of glide in those tiny, weak conditions. Oversized uber-grovellers don't really work because grovellers are all about ripping it up on the small stuff. There was no ripping. That board is just way too big for you. If you want to just do some gliding, try get a 9-12ft glider; at least then the board will knife through the water a little more.
I completely agree. It’s all about fun😁 The mid length part was kinda a joke. I was mostly curious how the big size potato would feel to ride😁 In small tiny waves, I don’t ride mid lengths anymore. Since I found the Skiff/Mini Simmons shapes which I highly recommend everyone to get is making riding small waves way more fun.
thanks for the review i was thinking about coming down from a traditional longboard to either a 6'2 or 6'4 sweet potato 2. so coming off a longboard would this board be suitable? as in terms of stability and float? or is this not a board for me.
@@socaldrew8 6'2" will probably work better! But if you never surfed the surfboard in that range especially coming from 9'0" log, I would consider something different in 7' ft range unless you are comfortable making late drops with 2-3 paddles on the longboard and not struggle at all with catching waves.
Yury! I disagree with you! I don't think you'd have any trouble catching waves on a 5'4" or 5'2" . You'd be pleasantly surprised, and you'd be able to turn. The board at this size for you was too much.
Yes, I wouldn't have issues catching waves on the shorter Sweet Potato. I do think it's a good small wave board for people who truly loves Helium and Firewire. But there are better options out there for small waves from local shapers :)
@@SkipperSurfReview I think your small wave board is more of a glide/trim and carve and the SP is a bit more high performance reason why it’s not as fun on small waves?
I don't know about the new Potato, but my old one flew with full size split keel Controllers. The standard quads you ran did it no justice.
Yeah, that’s awesome! Did you want to upgrade your potato or nah?

Thanks for the insight! That’s helpful!
you need to try that board as a two plus one bud - it turn SO EASILY even wth that giant volume
Will do! Thanks for the tip!
This review inspired me to buy the same board. TY!
Did you order it from Shea?
I got it used locally. Have yet to ride it, but will soon.@@SkipperSurfReview

Is that a cj nelson parallax you have in your collection? Would you share with me how you like that in comparison to your midlengths?
No, that's my buddy's board. He loves it. I can likely borrow it from him but I think it's way too big for me. He rides mid lengths in 9 ft size.
Sick review bro! What kinda leash string you running?
Just a generic one. Nothing fancy 😁

Hi! Thanks for watching. It depends. What's your weight/height? The board is very stable and superbly floaty.

Great review and surfing on this beefy board! I personally don't like Helium boards. Cheap construction!
Cheap…? No issues with mine and it deals with a 3 and 6 year old 😂

Surf was a little too small to really get the feel of board. Nevertheless you shred pretty good.
