I have this book. So far I'm really enjoying it. One of the best made gamebooks I've ever read. So much more than just choosing options at the end of a paragraph. The chapter system is good on a long book like this, so if you die you just go to the start of the chapter you're on. I'm only Chapter 4 so can't tell you much about the story but so far it's been great.
I have been really enjoying this series of videos on adventure books, of this current batch of modern books, do you have a favourite or a definite recommendation ?
Currently really enjoying Valley of Bones after seeing your review. This one looks beautiful. Shame about the prose. Might go on my list still. Unrelated question: Have you played Mage Knight (in particular solo?)
Interesting review. I have a question though. So towards the end you felt that you were not immersed enough into the book. Did you feel that the writing in general had an influence on how you felt kind of detached and as you said, "reading a book about a gamebook?"
I'm playing this one now and eh, it's ok. The translation can be pretty bad at times, but sometimes it's totally fine. I basically cannot lose a fight, it's way too easy. I haven't used any strategy in combat, just luck, but I can't miss even when I roll a double one in most fights. The book is very impressive as a physical product and it's long and very well priced, but eh, it's not that great. Not sure where the great praise is coming from in some of the reviews.
Ok so not an open world but on rails. Sections are not globally randomized but indicate your progress in the main quest. The first edition was terrible full of typos, if you check Goodreads, but I read through the Kickstarter updates and the translation second edition is still not good enough. Project needs a few more iterations. For me glad to have avoided yet another poorly executed Kickstarter.
You should make a gamebooks playlist!

Have you looked at Officina Meningi's gamebooks "The Necronomicon Gamebook: Dagon" and "The Necronomicon Gamebook: Carcosa"?

Fighting Fantasy: Dead of Night
Lone Wolf: Fire on the Water
Dark City Games: Shadows in the Dark
Not Marco's favorites, but mine.
@@Raddlesby Dark City Games has their own series of game books. I have only recently gotten into game books and I have never heard of Dark City Games.
Amazon shows no hits on dark city games.
Thx for the review. What's the best adventure book you have played?
May be you should try it another round, with audio CD switch on to its maximum volume?

Jumping in here a year later, Mage Knight is amazing solo!

Do you play as a male or female ?
