Great video, currently using XTS2500s for LOS but I had not heard of the ISM band before this video. Would love to see more videos on employing comms in the field, communicating with a team, radio etiquette, implementing a PACE plan etc. Thanks again for the quality content.
Thanks for making this video. This looks like a useful solution for dedicated team communication. It also looks like the DTR600 is the same radio with only 30 channels, but a better price.
I have made it over three miles away in a hilly city and hit one of my DTR410s from a DTR650. The 410 was the limiting factor due to its smaller fixed antenna. I have no doubt that a couple of DTR700s (I have these too) could hit 15km under reasonable conditions. I think the host conveyed the use case well. These are for semi-private short range communications in an urban environment. I wouldn't recommend these to most people, but they are excellent if they fit your needs.
I know this video has been out a while, but what kind of antenna connector do these use? I finally have one of these, and I'm trying to figure out the possibility of moving the antenna onto my kit, or an external antenna for my car
Great video i have a question i can't seem to find information on so maybe u can help me please can the xt400 Series un license radio be used with the r2/r7 License radio?
This is a great dumb down explanation. Thank you! Can you dumb it down even more, with some options? I'm looking for some coms for an emergency situation. With the range of about 40 miles without getting a license. Something that is clear to hear, easy enough for grandma to use and but doesn't allow the rest of the world to hear. Something that isn't as complicated as the balfang. Possibly multi use, emergency setting, taking on a vacation, hiking in the mountains, wandering the city or calling for help. ***Does something like this even exist???
There is no one size fits all solution. Seek training. Become proficient at the skills which will save your life in an emergency situation. We offer training courses throughout the country. 2024 schedule dropping soon.
@@MojaveRepeater I would say for the most part I'm prepared for emergencies. Coms and medical are my biggest defaults. Looking forward to seeing training schedules. Where will this be posted??
I want the pseudo-secure frequency-hopping features of this radio for our family. I know it’s insanely pricey, but I won’t get my very young kids unsecure radios. The DTR600 is discontinued. Do you have input on what I can get in a 4pk of radios?
These sell online for $100. With Frequency hopping spread spectrum digital VSLEP voice & data. They employ 90ms hops of 50 frequencies with unique hopset, talk group ID and 4 digit radio ID. No scanners nor handheld monitoring of these radios.
900 is line to site on flat ground ur good to go but in the mountains nope I will stuck with my vhf/uhf ham radios and I will take Kenwood over them radios any day of the week
Fair enough. It’s half the price of most other brand new high quality radios and one of the only on the market that can freqhop. No, USB type SDRs are typically just receivers although some can transmit, they’re not designed as communications devices
@@Jkp1321 Some laptop SDRs can indeed employ FHSS. However, you can't tune the LO in precise intervals, so you'll have to use other techniques like using software which limits you to the bandwidth of the SDR you use. A simple search on RUclips/Google will tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks for your comment, the 2500’s are great radios. I will definitely give you guys more field oriented videos!
Very informative video, some people argue that you need a Ham radio license, ISM doesn’t need a license as long it’s 1watt or less.

Thanks for watching! You are correct - same radio, fewer channels, and a bit cheaper
I have a bunch of DTR radios but only two of the DTR700s. I actually like the older ones better.
They work good on a cruise ship, much better than a 4 watt uhf radio.
So good! Thanks for the input man!
Would love to see some pace planning for heavily wooded terrain and maximizing ranges with various radio types amd freq
Solid gents thanX 🙏🏻👍
👋🏻👀👍🏻 thanks, from the wingnut radio in Florida
Love to see a breakdown on the range. 15k on one watt? Okay, please do a google map terrain overview.
Will do in future videos! Pretty open desert terrain. Slopes down/up between the two points so it’s clear LOS & unobstructed fresnel zone.

Have you ever played around with the Chinese version of the PRC-152, not the Boafeng one ?
Thanks for the info
If there are any other FHSS radios videos on other models/brands that do that would be very interesting. Thanks again
Great!!

@@ChevyF16 you’re seeking security against who/what?
Any testing of this radio in the woods ?
How did the stubby antennae impact your range?
I see that the dtr600 is cheaper. What is the advantage of the 700 over it?
It’s the same radio the 700 just has more channels
HA! 29 Palms, eh? Was there my whole Marine Corps career. Good ol' Stumps...oorah.

where do you find these for $100 lol
What the range on the dtr700
I got 11km clear line of sight with these radios but don’t expect that kind of range in all scenarios
Did he say 29 miles with 1 watt ?
15km brother it’s French
