I just started playing strive this past week, and yeah I get why people like this game. Super fun and even while you are new you feel like you can do cool stuff unlike street fighter. Also love seeing that almost everyone is playing a different character. As a melee player I am used to seeing like 6 characters. Fox, Falco, Marth, Falcon, Sheik, and some Peach, oh and hbox with puff I am used to top 8s being mostly fox players. Seeing this game where it feels like every character could be in top 8 is great.
Though this game needs balancing like every other fighting game. There s tiers are many like 8 to 9 characters come in that range thus u see different characters in finals.

Yes you can play with people on your skill level like very nooby. And definitely more fun playing with someone IRL. I play with a relative irl and we have been consistently improving at similar rates

YRC=Yellow Roman Cancel. It's the universal yellow "pulse" move players use defensively that helps break an attacker's offensive pressure and lets the defender take their turn. If the YRC gets blocked though it's super punishable.
character switching is a thing in tourneys. Not many tourney players will actually learn how to play 2 different characters at high level but it's a valid strat if your opponent is just using a character that is a TERRIBLE matchup for one of yours. Most brackets usually make it so only the player who just lost can switch mid-set
