I’m actually enjoying it. Had SWGOH as my main game for over 6yrs, dabbled with a few others, and it’s nice to have a new toy. Yeah it’s basic as hell at the moment, but I hope they’re just leaving themselves plenty of room to add stuff. I’m sticking with it.

Another point is that in the European / UK market the packs would be €99 or £99 - there isn’t a currency converter so it’s ever worse value for non US customers, same in SWGOH
Gonna be honest, the Graphics of the games seem, to me, as a step down from The Lord of the Rings Online. A game, still in development, which came out in 2007...
Most underwhealming global launch ever! I agree totally, when I play HOME, I after check the calender that its 2023 and not 2005. Other gachas give loads of freebies, promo codes and special offers in first week. This game a laughable $100 pack. Its not great is it?
As a F2P veteran of collector games like this I’ve been having a lot of fun. I’m f2p so expensive offers don’t even register on my radar. I haven’t had many issues at all. I’ve only had to restart from freezes maybe twice. I was only in menus so it didn’t negatively impact my experience. It’s bare bones now sure but…I expected it to be? I’m only level 27 even if there was more to do I don’t think I would be able to engage with it anyway. The teams we have and the actual gameplay is pretty fun so I’m excited to see it grow Graphics are a bit yikes. Art style is fine but it just feels really low resolution and kinda muddy and ugly
They don't understand how important graphic quality is in obtaining/retaining players. It's the main thing that has kept me playing Raid Shadow Legends for 3 years.
Well, keep in mind it isn't true double drops. Still requires much more to star up characters compared to SWGoH. Would need 4x drops to make it on par. Glad you are having fun! Definitely keep it F2P to have the most fun!

Tried it, after less than an hour of gameplay I'm stuck because of the tutorial where they want me to gear up Frodo by simming battles and it sends me back to his gear and I'm softlocked. I really hopes they scrap the game with another art style. But I think I'm already asking too much
Only bugs I have experienced were characters merging on one spot in the gear upgrade screen, frozen load times. Also currently my challenge supplies has nothing in it today.
Ahnald at this point is an official EA/CG employee, mad promoting not one, but two of their games. Want a proper mobile LOTR game? Go get Rise to War, it's much better and the developers at least aren't bank robbers
I started playing at the Australian launch, and got the Frodo tutorial bug. stopped playing and thought maybe 10 days later they would have launched a hotfix. but nope - still stuck.
Sucks that they presumably pulled resources away from SWGOH and let that game fester into autopilot where all they have to do is update datacrons and scamquest... and this is the result. Like, did they actually move anything away from SWGOH for this or did we just assume that they would?
One big problem is there’s no clear amount shards are worth, I get one pack offering 200 shards for 3 hobbits for 19.99, then I get a pack with 3 Isengard Orcs, two 40 shards and the one I didn’t have yet 15 shards for 19.99. That doesn’t add up correctly and they gave pretty much the same amount of bonus materials and currency
Heh, honestly that may well be because most of the Hobbits are trash, but the Isengarders are a fairly decent shadow team. I don't think either pack is worth the money, but if I had to pick one as a gift I'd go with Isengard simply because I'd actually use them.

It was brought up in one of Tauna's early videos that the Tolkein Estate "requested" that they base the art on J.R.R's original water color art for Hobbit and LoTR. The fact that it's unpolished and choppy isn't excused, but at least there's an answer as to why it didn't get a more realistic look
Why is anyone surprised by the expensive packs? It’s CG. Of course, they will be over the top and predatory. If you played SwGOH, you can’t be shocked. Everyone can have opinions, but the graphics are indefensible. You can not be bothered by the graphics, but you aren’t be honest if you don’t think the graphics are below grade.
I honestly don't see how people can play these style of hero collectors, once you've played one of them, you've played them all. It's literally just Galaxy with Lotr plastered on, half assed mind you. But alas enjoy what you want to enjoy.
personally like hero collectors (if not too shameless) but def agree on the point that one of them is more than enough. With two of them, both hand you a ToDo list that's almost the same so that gets draining super fast
The only annoying bug I had. Was when it forces you to upgrade Frodo oaks part of the tutorial and but then no inputs work so you are stuck in that screen. Just have to reload but annoying it happens
Sure feels more predatory than SWGOH, between the higher shard demand, the beyond in-your-face monetisation, gear grind seems to be much worse, refreshes for energy are double the cost. I am not having a bad time, but it's definitely not feeling rewarding.
I feel like the game is on a content track. Gandolf and the witch king are both in the opening loading screen art, but not in the game. When they get brought into the game as legendary the game will really start to get going hopefully. The bare bones allows the characters to be built up which hopefully will work. It is a lot of hope the game is setup for success

To be fair to the graphics “problem”, they based the look of the game off of the water color painting that JRR Tolkien did of the character. Things looks low quality because they were trying to pay homage to the author not the movies. As far as the launch, render quality, and offers it was kinda not great… in SW GOH they have the hyper drive bundle for $100 that’s gives you a massive boost and here it’s… crystals… that was a poor choice

Also annoying with the reset timers, they seem all over the place.
Don't think we really need to talk about the graphics. Source of much ridicule both from outside and inside the mobile gaming space. Disappointing sums it up pretty much. Monetization is weird as you pointed out. As a long time SWGoH dolphin I would have at least expected the (almost industry standard) sweet launch deal. But there is nothing making me want to spend money on. All that said the core gameplay is still able to suck me in. Managing resources, powering up chars, building towards and improving upon synergies and teams. It's just the right mix of grind and progress. And I can see myself sticking around though I still hope they improve on the overall shell.
I was considering playing this game, but one relationship with CG (in swgoh) is about all I can handle, and I think it would benefit my mental health not to enter into another.
Mobile game offers absolutely baffle me. To think that a customer could spent 50%, 100% or even 200%+ the cost of an entire console game and potentially not even get a single complete character is insane..
Ive played it for a while, 18 lvl. Main problems, which may be understandable, to be fair: 1. Too few characters. Yes, early launch, yes they don't want all known characters to be at the beginning, but 95% of these characters are random ass orcs or elves. 2. You play one level without losing more than 10% of health and then you move to another which you cant win. Where's the balance? 3. Besides LS/DS/Guild battles, there is not much else to do. I just unlocked squad arena, barely Challenges which are difficult. Now Im at a point where I have to SIM battles to lvl up, just to have good enough characters to win further.lvls in regular missions. Not much to do. Yes, new game, there are bugs which is pretty normal. But it gets boring quickly.
I thought that the graphics would update once everything downloaded or that there would be an option to increase texture resolution when I started the game a few days ago. I'm with you on that.
On the one hand I would like to start the game early to develop my roster quickly and not be behind but on the other hand the game is not appealing to me yet, they need to try harder to make me download it

Im just having huge problems with gold but I kind of screwed up and started leveling light and dark team. No way to buy gold with crystals kind of blows
For what's it's worth, I'm having fine fun where it is at the moment. Super pricey initial packs? Yes. Graphics that looks like they from early 2000s TV? Yep. But it's something new and I am okay being a founder to see where it will go. Either CG steps up their game, or they keep digging deeper than obsidian.
tbh I have fun with the game a few of my swgoh guild mates have the game too and we have a guild here too but the bug I have: The first line of dialogue when I select a battle is missing. I just have the characters and background. when I click next it appears for a split second and then everything is fine. until i start another battle. personally i don't care that much about the graphics. it's not the best looking but well.. i am here for the gameplay not looks
Low risk product. Minimal development costs. They could keep this game running until it starts putting them into the negative, which would force them to pull it but not after they made some profit for future other developments
I feel like people dont understand the difference between graphical quality and graphical style. Ahnald is 100% right, theres nothing wrong with the style, but the execution is awful. Good graphics does not mean "everything needs to be photo realistic" it means "you executed the art style to the highest possible tier". If you look at boarderlands 1, 2 and 3, youll see that they become progressively better looking even though they all use the same art style.
While I did Rate it a single Star. I did get into contact with a nice Dev that's looking into my and some other peoples issue. So, while the game is not working out right now, at least they're communicating.
For those still on the fence because of the graphics: do note there's currently a huge discrepancy between running on an emulator, like BlueStacks, versus a mobile device. Probably some emulated GPU detection that's screwing up, but it significanly downgrades the quality of the graphics, particularly the textures and lighting. Edit: AhnaldT01, when you show off Ugluk, that's precisely the problem I am describing above. Load the game up on your phone and you'll notice it will be much improved. Leaving the stylistic choice aside, of course. Now why they haven't tested with an emulator in this day and age, knowing the ton of RUclips and Twitch people making videos on the games out there, is beyond me.
a bunch of characters were removed from the official release that were in the beta, we dont know when they will be back but they will be back at some point
Starting out without the big character like, Gandalf, Gollum, Aragorn, Legolas, Sauron, etc. we will at least know that they will be powered accordingly as Legendary/Glactic Legend/etc. However, this makes the start of the game a little disappointing with so little regocnisable characters.
How do you get a hold of some of the most valuable IP out there, and put this kind of effort into the art and look? I think you're being rather nice about it, tbh. That said, the game design is exactly what I expected and hoped for. I hope to see more leader abilities in the future for the different squads but ill definitely stick with it. Just fire the entire art/UI department and start fresh and it would be great lol

absolute minimalistic effort put into this game it feels like and it really blows as a die hard tolkien fan, there’s such a great universe there and fan base that you’d THINK some love put into the world(this game) and putting out good content would bring in better revenue then putting out a 1/4 assed product
I'm really liking it so far, with how few there's to grind when it comes to good characters, it makes it simple. I do dislike a lot though such as: All the shops like Main, Arena, challenge and guild, they all have different timers for when they refresh, make them the same refresh time! Also hate how hard side nodes refresh around 10 hours or so after my daily objectives refresh at 12AM est, why doesn't hard nodes refresh at daily reset?
Yeah the random ass resets for things are just baffling. Arena payout at 2 PM? Arena attempts reset at the same time? Stores seemingly random hours? Seriously questionable choices.

I have to randomly wait or jump through some stupid hoop to HOPE that the freakin pack that I want to buy shows up. Pretty typical for a mobile like this to have issues....galaxy of heroes did and so did marvel strike force. The only issue I have is the lack of characters, but I'm sure they'll fix that over time.

Im just having huge problems with gold but I kind of screwed up and started leveling light and dark team. No way to buy gold with crystals kind of blows

I like that’s there a story to the campaign missions. Was one thing I wish Swgoh had in the base campaigns
The only reason people play SWGOH is for the love of Star Wars , not sure if many other franchises have that kind of fanbase
And the fact it's got complex game mechanics, really good art and character design etc

For what's it's worth, I'm having fine fun where it is at the moment. Super pricey initial packs? Yes. Graphics that looks like they from early 2000s TV? Yep. But it's something new and I am okay being a founder to see where it will go. Either CG steps up their game, or they keep digging deeper than obsidian.
There’s is a 30 percent chance my game crashes every time I level up a character.

What I really don't like is hard node reset.. I would like if they refresh with your daily reset like in swgoh and not in the middle of the day
Agreed, I don't get that decision at all. No reason to not have the node resets refresh at the same time as your dailies and energy.
CG now has 2 games where the background artists aren’t paid enough 🤷🏻♂️

a few of my swgoh guild mates have the game too and we have a guild here too
but the bug I have: The first line of dialogue when I select a battle is missing. I just have the characters and background. when I click next it appears for a split second and then everything is fine.
until i start another battle.
personally i don't care that much about the graphics. it's not the best looking but well.. i am here for the gameplay not looks
I’m noticing several little QOL improvements over swgoh (such as no sim tix) that make it seem more polished in certain respects
They could have done actual storybook graphics (look at PMD DX) but no they gave us PlayStation 1 graphics
Low risk product. Minimal development costs. They could keep this game running until it starts putting them into the negative, which would force them to pull it but not after they made some profit for future other developments
I feel like people dont understand the difference between graphical quality and graphical style. Ahnald is 100% right, theres nothing wrong with the style, but the execution is awful. Good graphics does not mean "everything needs to be photo realistic" it means "you executed the art style to the highest possible tier". If you look at boarderlands 1, 2 and 3, youll see that they become progressively better looking even though they all use the same art style.
Only 100 bucks! that's cheaper than that 170 dollar omicron bundle CG keeps trying to sell me. What a deal!
While I did Rate it a single Star. I did get into contact with a nice Dev that's looking into my and some other peoples issue. So, while the game is not working out right now, at least they're communicating.

For those still on the fence because of the graphics: do note there's currently a huge discrepancy between running on an emulator, like BlueStacks, versus a mobile device. Probably some emulated GPU detection that's screwing up, but it significanly downgrades the quality of the graphics, particularly the textures and lighting.
Edit: AhnaldT01, when you show off Ugluk, that's precisely the problem I am describing above. Load the game up on your phone and you'll notice it will be much improved. Leaving the stylistic choice aside, of course. Now why they haven't tested with an emulator in this day and age, knowing the ton of RUclips and Twitch people making videos on the games out there, is beyond me.

Disappointed that the only fellowship characters available are strider and hobbits yet we see gimli in one of the campaigns
a bunch of characters were removed from the official release that were in the beta, we dont know when they will be back but they will be back at some point
Starting out without the big character like, Gandalf, Gollum, Aragorn, Legolas, Sauron, etc. we will at least know that they will be powered accordingly as Legendary/Glactic Legend/etc.
However, this makes the start of the game a little disappointing with so little regocnisable characters.
Aragorn is Strider Ingame.
@@Prince_VegetaX Duh, I know, but there is no proper Aragorn (with Anduril) like as either leader of the fellowship or King of Gondor.
How do you get a hold of some of the most valuable IP out there, and put this kind of effort into the art and look? I think you're being rather nice about it, tbh. That said, the game design is exactly what I expected and hoped for. I hope to see more leader abilities in the future for the different squads but ill definitely stick with it. Just fire the entire art/UI department and start fresh and it would be great lol
It's the normal now for all games to offer insane packs and with CGs GOH history your a bit nieve to think it would be different.
The game is actually good as at the moment.ent you can theory craft something GOH got rid off years ago.
Yeah, I'm shocked that people who've played SWGOH are shocked at this. I don't like this stuff but I'm not going to pretend I'm surprised they monetized a well known property on release.

absolute minimalistic effort put into this game it feels like and it really blows as a die hard tolkien fan, there’s such a great universe there and fan base that you’d THINK some love put into the world(this game) and putting out good content would bring in better revenue then putting out a 1/4 assed product
I'm really liking it so far, with how few there's to grind when it comes to good characters, it makes it simple. I do dislike a lot though such as: All the shops like Main, Arena, challenge and guild, they all have different timers for when they refresh, make them the same refresh time! Also hate how hard side nodes refresh around 10 hours or so after my daily objectives refresh at 12AM est, why doesn't hard nodes refresh at daily reset?
Yeah the random ass resets for things are just baffling. Arena payout at 2 PM? Arena attempts reset at the same time? Stores seemingly random hours? Seriously questionable choices.
I actually like this game so far and I'd like to spend a bit of money but RANDOM packs are DUMB! I have to randomly wait or jump through some stupid hoop to HOPE that the freakin pack that I want to buy shows up.

I'm not playing a mobile game for the graphics. The lack of any content is the biggest problem with the game

Pretty typical for a mobile like this to have issues....galaxy of heroes did and so did marvel strike force. The only issue I have is the lack of characters, but I'm sure they'll fix that over time.
This is the best a multi billion dollar company can put out in 2023. Sad.
