This is my absolute favorite car, I’m almost glad I got one when R32 sedans started shooting up in price, wayyy cheaper, more practical and luxurious but with the right mods and suspension conversions it can be just as exciting. Waiting for a tune to finally have real fun with my Cedric, they’re very slept on sleepers, especially with that Vq30det
Thinking about getting a Gloria, how do you find information on this car, I can’t find anything. Or where do you get aftermarket or replacement parts. Just worried about committing to something that I can’t get parts for
No, I'm sorry, dead switches are amazing! Allows you to easily install switches for aftermarket accessories. Lots of useful things come with switches that are a perfect fit there and you can still retain a factory look rather than a hole drilled into the plastic.
this is an insanely late reply but what type of switches would go here that aren't gauges or something? like a fuel pump turn on switch or something? sorry new to cars
I think the Y33 was offered with an RB25 but only in 4 wheel drive. The VQ30DET definitely gives the sleeper feel, my Brougham doesn’t move the way it looks lol
The Skyline was always marketed as an entry-level performance luxury car for upcoming late20s early30s middle class. So, basically... a 3 series competitor in modern parlance. The Laurel was a half step up from that - a more spacious Skyline with "daily driver" towncar intentions, but 90% the same parts. And the Gloria was meant to be a 5-series competitor. That's not to say they're necessarily on the same level of BMW. These cars were cheaper for a reason. But that's what Prince Motors was going for, and what Nissan continued after acquiring them.
If you want a JDM Nissan sedan similar to the Gloria/Cedric consider the Y33 Nissan Cima it's rhd version of the Infiniti Q45 engine options include the VQ30DET or VH41DE it'll be easier to get parts for it

On badges... Japan has never had "Infiniti". It's worth noting the Skyline, Laurel, Gloria, and President all came from a different company -- a luxury car company -- that Nissan bought out in the late 50s. Named Prince Motors. The purchase was not b/c Prince was having a hard time. Rather, the Japanese government -- after a scare that Ford almost bought another mfr (Mitsubishi iirc ?) in the early 50s -- forced the consolidation of Japanese auto manufacturing into a Big3 to mirror the US and German competition. Thus, Nissan acquired Prince Motors. And the internal politics of Nissan have never been the same. They did not get along. Until the early 2000s, Nissan dealerships in Japan were very segmented -- I guarantee if you find the dealership this Gloria was originally purchased from it will have the name "Prince" in the dealership branding. To this day, your best bet of finding a Skyline physically at a Japanese dealership is to find the old Prince dealers, ie "Nissan Prince Tachikawa". These internal politics are why we never got any of those 4 vehicles in the US. Because Nissan USA was dominated by Mr. K, who was firmly on the Datsun side of the house and didn't get along with the luxury Prince side. On the other hand, it's also why the Z was created. If we got the Skyline, the Z wouldn't have had a reason to exist. It took Infiniti becoming a brand for us to get Skylines (G35, G37, Q50, Q60), Gloria/Cima (Q45), and Fuga (Q70) -- the Fuga was a forced consolidation (by Renault) of Laurel, Gloria, Cedric, and Cima into 1 car. The aforementioned model names couldn't be used due to internal politics of Datsun or Prince "winning". So the Fuga was chosen as a new start, separate from the politics. The President died on the vine, as Toyota preeminence in the chauffeured market was dominant. Today, only the Skyline (Q50) and its' descendant GT-R continue to exist in the Nissan lineup. Maybe one day they'll bring the Laurel and Gloria back. So long story short... those badges date back to Prince Motors days. And Japanese know that; or at least knew in the 90s when these cars were new. It's a statement that you're not just buying a Nissan, you're buying a Prince Motors car.

The volume knob in my 06 Honda Element failed not that long ago if I turned it down, it would do the opposite and get louder. A little electronic contact cleaner cleared that up. Maybe this car needs the same thing. What's in that big of a deal in my case as I had the steering wheel volume control.
